Taking your children on a plane journey can lead to worries that they will be bored and miserable until you arrive. Qatar Airways have recently launched their new Oryx Kids Club programme, and want to hear your tips for keeping your children happy when you’re on a flight.

Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Ehab Amin, said: “Qatar Airways is delighted to announce the launch of Oryx Kids Club programme and loyalty programme for its youngest travellers, offering them the opportunity to enjoy exceptional benefits while travelling with Qatar Airways. As an airline that is committed to welcoming children and families on board, Qatar Airways is thrilled about this new opportunity to interact with our passengers, from the moment they arrive at the airport.”

Are you an expert in finding plane friendly toys? Maybe you have an ingenious and unique way of preventing boredom on long plane journeys? Do you use family friendly lounges? Perhaps you play I spy from the sky? Do you use films and games from in-flight entertainment systems or do you prefer to download favourites onto your own tablets to keep your children entertained?

Whatever you do to keep your children happy on flights, share this in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Children are now 7 and 9 and been flying since the youngest was 2 (didn't feel brave enough to try before).

I pack them each a backpack to take on the plane. I shop for 2 folders and fill with new books, colouring books, quiz books, dot to dots, stickers etc and new pens, crayons.

I pop in iPod shuffles with new music, make sure they have DS and tablets charged with new (free) games. Plenty of small, healthy snacks (don't want any sugar rushes on the plane!) and waters.

This is all done as cheaply as possible but has always kept them entertained and never had any meltdowns. Worth all the effort of getting it together just to have a relaxing flight.

When my two were little they use to pack a rucksack each with toys books games and I’d take sweet and snacks

xcxcsophiexcxc · 11/06/2018 08:11

hdh747 · 11/06/2018 08:12

vonniebab2 · 11/06/2018 08:15

phillie1 · 11/06/2018 08:19

strips of different coloured plasticine - kept them occupied for hours, making different animals etc that we told them to, and then us guessing what it was they had made

bevmichelle47 · 11/06/2018 08:19

Plenty of patience! lol..It's good to plan things before hand with plenty of chewy sweets if their ears pop and cause them trouble, drinks to keep them hydrated, i also take some of their fav sanwiches too.
Comics to read together a game of eyespy & a comfort toy if they get upset.

Good to find a quiet part of the airport to spend time waiting and then go down to the gate towards the end. You can then entertain them better and if they're the right age a bit of running round is good before being in a confined space. If this all works as planned it will help them sleep! A bag of goodies for the plane is good, something a bit new to them as well as old favourites. A book, some colouring, puzzles!

shellywkd · 11/06/2018 08:35

I'm quite lucky as my kids are big readers so a good book lasts them ages. I also take ipods for music and puzzle books.

AR2012 · 11/06/2018 08:49

Lots of movies and their favourite shows on their tablets. Snacks and other activities like colouring books.

ThemisA · 11/06/2018 08:56

I take a bag of little cheap gifts which I wrap and every half hour they have something to open and then play with - worth the expense..

jelleng · 11/06/2018 08:58

As much as I don't want my little angels to be in front of a screen for too long I have to admit that on flights it does keep them happy and stops the boredom.

Quantumblue · 11/06/2018 09:01

I won't be flying Qatar air again after the CEO's recent misogynistic remarks. HTH

SSCRASE123 · 11/06/2018 09:02

We look ahead at what films are showing so we can make a plan that they can watch a film or two have some food and then try to get them to have a sleep. We do try and get night flights as that makes things easier.

KARINAJ83 · 11/06/2018 09:34

an endless amount of snacks, books, sticker books and premade checklists of what they can see. A surprise or two never hurt either

caralianne · 11/06/2018 09:35

a bag of some of their favourite snacks and little things they like e.g puzzle books, sticker books and then technology really does help these days with flights as they can take their tablets and play apps, watch videos etc.

bubbleybooboo · 11/06/2018 09:43

Lots of snacks and activitys is always a winner.

I took a goodie bag and hadnt shown my daughter what was in it until we were on the plane. I got another thing out of the goodie bag every half an hour so that she would be kept interested.

Books, Drawing paper, puzzles, headphones for watching some tv, sticker books and a magazine helped the last time we flew x

topsy73 · 11/06/2018 09:49

Preperation is key! Have things that can keep him amused! Things such as ipad, DVD player, colouring, reading books etc.

glenka · 11/06/2018 09:50

always pack a few of their most favourite toys and things you know will keep them entertained. we usually take a few books that we know they will like to read

footdust · 11/06/2018 09:51

Download films and tv shows to watch on tablets - make sure you have headphones that are comfortable and work and plenty of spare battery back up as in flight entertainment not always that good.

shroney · 11/06/2018 09:53

ipads and books, snacks and chatting, mine are older so much easier now.

lulumajor · 11/06/2018 09:59

Colouring or sticker books and downloading programmes in advance
