Taking your children on a plane journey can lead to worries that they will be bored and miserable until you arrive. Qatar Airways have recently launched their new Oryx Kids Club programme, and want to hear your tips for keeping your children happy when you’re on a flight.

Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Ehab Amin, said: “Qatar Airways is delighted to announce the launch of Oryx Kids Club programme and loyalty programme for its youngest travellers, offering them the opportunity to enjoy exceptional benefits while travelling with Qatar Airways. As an airline that is committed to welcoming children and families on board, Qatar Airways is thrilled about this new opportunity to interact with our passengers, from the moment they arrive at the airport.”

Are you an expert in finding plane friendly toys? Maybe you have an ingenious and unique way of preventing boredom on long plane journeys? Do you use family friendly lounges? Perhaps you play I spy from the sky? Do you use films and games from in-flight entertainment systems or do you prefer to download favourites onto your own tablets to keep your children entertained?

Whatever you do to keep your children happy on flights, share this in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Sticker books, comics and if it is long haul favourite film - I find they may have a sleep while watching.

Last went away with ds when he was 12 which was easy, he brought his Nintendo ds to play games on. Also brought a card game called Exploding Kittens which was great fun. Hardly took up any space and saved us when our flight home was delayed.

When ds was younger I found buying guide new games/toys best as they had the novelty factor. A travel sized version of aqua mats went down well.

I bought some cheap sticker books ( the ones which you can make monster faces or make scenes etc ) and some colouring books and gave them to the kids when they start to get bored, card games like uno or top trumps are also great and snacks like rice cakes or cereal bars are a must too

PrinceOfCheeses · 18/06/2018 20:52

Tablets, and I have no shame about letting them as much screen as they want if it keeps them quiet on a flight! Snacks, colouring books, trunkies all help too,

A tablet keeps my one occupied and happy during a flight. Also his interest and curiosity about flying and planes and where about we are over the land makes him quite keen on flying.

Plenty of quiet talk time with a parent such as making up exciting stories with adult setting the scene and inviting child to 'add' to story and then back to the adult. Half an hour can go by in a breeze.

Also there are some small tinned toys you can buy such as mini fuzzy felt which is suitable for 5 - 6+ year olds, it's not such a problem losing small playing pieces as they stick to the backing card.

I've always been clear about behaviour expectations long before a flight - such as understanding that we're travelling with other people and that we need to be polite, understanding and friendly and not disturb other people uneccesarily. Just an extension of non plane life I suppose but it seems to help. This is only relevant for children who can understand all the concepts of course but seemed to work for us.

We have headbands with little earphones in them and then download their favourite stories on audio books to keep them happy and entertained.

Salmonpinkcords · 19/06/2018 18:12

A good range of small snacks and activities (colouring, puzzle, I spy, iPad) to break flight into smaller blocks of time.
Comfy clothes with change in hand luggage.

Unlimited screen time and snacks as a special treat. I found Qatar to be a great airline, Singapore used to be my favourite, but no more.

YayImALlamaAgain · 19/06/2018 20:34

I will be taking DS on a plane for the first time later this year. So far I have planned to download his favourite shows, prepare a variety of exciting snacks and encourage him to run around in the terminal lounge to burn off some energy. Actively looking at some of these other responses for other tips.

GrooveHeart · 19/06/2018 21:12

I take a bag full of toys and entertainment and also lots of snacks

AutumnElla · 19/06/2018 22:13

I find some paper and crayons can keep them busy for ages and some snacks.

kkhimji · 19/06/2018 23:53

ipad and endless movies never goes wrong!

alabaster002 · 20/06/2018 05:01

Try to get seats apart from your children. Let someone else who is paying for their seat deal with them on a long flight and, if they complain, point out that we were all kids once.....lol!

pandoraskids · 20/06/2018 10:18

Tablet with games and headphones

pec1309 · 20/06/2018 10:43

We used to live in Germany, where our daughter was born. We flew between the UK and Germany 16 times. We always made sure we had snacks and drinks bought in the airport for on the plane. We also found that an activity book with colouring pencils or stickers helped to entertain her. As she has got a little older we bought a Kindle Fire kids tablet and downloaded several games free from the internet. This really helped to entertain her!!

JoGodfray · 20/06/2018 12:49

My little ones are totally obsessed with party bags so I filled a few different ones with lots of pens, pencils, rubbers, stickers and then I gave them each a colouring book and I also kept some of those books which they can stick clothes on the figures. For the older ones I always make sure the tablets are fully charged!!

mwatmough · 20/06/2018 13:38
