With the responsibility of having a little person to clean, dress, feed and keep happy, getting out of the house with a new baby can prove an unexpected challenge. ASDA would love you to share your top tips for leaving the house with a new baby.

Here is what ASDA has to say: “There’s nothing worse than being caught short when you’re out and about, so we’d love to hear your stories about what being ‘fully prepared’ on the go means for you and your little angel!”

Did packing a bag the night before help you to get out and about without a hitch? Maybe eating breakfast on the go was the only way you were able to eat breakfast at all. Do you recommend recruiting your nearest and dearest to lend a hand on those first tricky trips? Or, perhaps, you finally realised that swapping the over-packed pram for a sling was the answer.

Whatever your top tips for leaving the house with a baby may be, please share them below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Breast feeling really helps and if you are self-conscious wear a baggy t-shirt/jumper and the baby can be shoved up the jumper and no one is the wiser. I honestly did it everywhere and never once got told off or a funny look. A decent back pack kept packed at all times with the essentials helps - nappies, wipes, moist flannel in a bag, food, drinks, spare money etc

tamalyn1 · 24/04/2018 11:29

organise organise organise, pack your bag the night before with nappies, spare clothes, wipes etc then make sure you make up any bottles first thing ready to add to bag, always keep spare clothing in car along with nappies and wipes just incase.

hannahbjm · 24/04/2018 11:30

Pack many more things than you think you will need and always keep a spare t shirt for you in there in case of breast leak/baby sick/ dribble

gd2011 · 24/04/2018 11:31

Don't do it alone the firdt few times, get someone to go with you.

TiggersAngel7774 · 24/04/2018 11:37

take plenty of nappies, clothing and milk

emmav6 · 24/04/2018 11:43

i have a bag 90% pre-packed always at the ready if i need to pop out short notice!

swanlady2000 · 24/04/2018 11:46

Mentally tell yourself you need to be there half an hour earlier for every appointment, so you can allow for quick nappy changes etc.. prepare a changing bag the night before and always keep it stocked then it’s easy to grab and go.

cluckyhen · 24/04/2018 11:46

Don't rush. forward planning means that you will ensure that you have everything you need rather than panic. I used to keep my nappy bag fully stocked and ready to go as soon as we got back in to ensure it was ready in an emergency

EsmeeMerlin · 24/04/2018 11:53

I pack our changing bag as soon as we get in while everything is fresh on my mind. The one time I have forgotten something is the one time I have really needed it.

I also keep outings short and sweet at the moment with my 7 week old. Just popping to the shops and round to family. Any bigger trip I have done with my partner-it’s just less stressful at the moment.

danigrace · 24/04/2018 11:58

Laying out both of our outfits the night before and replenishing the nappy bag and packing anything we need the night before is absolutely essential! As is going to bed with the kitchen sorted so we aren't behind before we even start the day at breakfast time

Dormouse1940 · 24/04/2018 12:00

Always take spares of everything- you never know when that catastrophic nappy blow-out will strike!
And always start preparing to leave your house earlier than you think you need to...my son had a wonderful knack of getting all changed, bundled into his pramsuit, travel system set up and THEN he'd soil himself. Sigh. I'd have been late for everything if I hadn't started obsessively early!

janeyf1 · 24/04/2018 12:05

Pack a backpack with more than enough of what you need, especially nappies

bibolda · 24/04/2018 12:25

With first baby it is a challenge to go out.
My daughter Zelma was 2 weeks old when we needed to go to a Wedding and we forgot to take extra cloths with us.

List to take with your baby: nappies, extra changing cloths, because accidents can happen, wipes, baby bottles, there are some which heats up the milk and milk powder or ready made milk, toys, blanket.
If it is sunny, sun protection, and sun glass, hat.

pinkjjf27 · 24/04/2018 12:27

Be prepared for people keep stopping you to talk to you about your new baby it can really add quite a long time to your outing. If you breast feed make sure you know good places to do it. if you can go with one one else to help you especially if you have a toddler. In the sun make sure your bays head is covered or has sun block a lady in my church had her baby 6 weeks ago and his little head was all burned and blistered yesterday she said she just didnt think!!!

GreasyHairDoNotCare · 24/04/2018 12:28

Don't put it off! If you're up at 7 get ready and go at 9 otherwise it will never happen. Pack the changing bag the night before so there's one less obstacle in getting out the house.

andywedge · 24/04/2018 12:41

Just do it; you will already have totally overprepared with gadgets, bags, tools etc

RACHELSMITH45 · 24/04/2018 12:56

I didn't realise just how hard this would be especially after my 2nd baby!! Now its a must to prepare baby's bag the night before, stock it well! Everyone's outfits over the bannister for the next day is a must! Lunches made, breakfast out ready.. organisation is the absolute key here!!

Helsbells68 · 24/04/2018 13:00

Keep it short and simple for the first few trips.

KARINAJ83 · 24/04/2018 13:05

prepack bags the night before if possible and always pack more. Remember a bottle of water and snack for mum as we hardly get a second to get anything for ourselves when we are super busy

maryandbuzz1 · 24/04/2018 13:08

I did manage to get out an about with my new baby but it did take some planning especially for all eventualities. I managed it first with my mum in tow and we kept the outing to a very short time. Longer trips did happen but again I made sure I had a friend for extra back up.
I always had extra clothes and feeds but would say to myself before I left that if things became too stressful I would just come home early.

kateandme · 24/04/2018 13:17

try to travel light and keep a base kit bag.wipes nappies.spare clothing item cloth.plastic bag.always kept in the same bag never taken out even if needed.always replenished.this way you can try to keep light.it will always be ready.and stocked. then if you have no time you ready to grab it.and the more time you have the more you can think of putting in if you wish.
also helpful that were special going out were the towel/change mat.
keeping snack and toy always in pram.
if you have spare space.pack a few nappy bags with a nappy, change grow.that way you always ready to grab and run.
don't panic.there is usually really kind people and always a shop(mostly) within anywhere we are nowadays that can help with something you've forgotten.
as hard as it is don't stress or panic.it meant ot be a nice time and kids will start stroppy and carry on being if you begin the outing with all people stressed at the very idea of getting out the house.
have them help "right lets get shoes on""right both of us fetch our coats" "toilet time before we go for us both"
they copy you at this age.if your stressed.they will be,and they wont no why so will just be moody!
don't panic at getting rbeakie in before hand.use it as a time user upper when out and something to do.so breakie at the café or picnic.ours were always happiest out when they were eating!!

kateandme · 24/04/2018 13:19

if you know in advance lay out all you can the night before so when the morning begins with mayhem you are prepped as can be.owls out.lunch packed.clothes on chairs.

shellywkd · 24/04/2018 13:19

I always kept a bag prepared and then just added the milk before I went. It had a bib, nappies, wipes, mat and spare clothes. If I used something I used to replace it that night so it was always stocked.

rosie154 · 24/04/2018 13:19

Take everything, the thing that you think you won't need will be the first that you do! Keep a bag ready and restock it when you get home.

essexchic · 24/04/2018 13:23

Take spare clothing, nappies and nappy bags and dont forget a bottle of water and a snack for you. Wipes are a must!
