With the responsibility of having a little person to clean, dress, feed and keep happy, getting out of the house with a new baby can prove an unexpected challenge. ASDA would love you to share your top tips for leaving the house with a new baby.

Here is what ASDA has to say: “There’s nothing worse than being caught short when you’re out and about, so we’d love to hear your stories about what being ‘fully prepared’ on the go means for you and your little angel!”

Did packing a bag the night before help you to get out and about without a hitch? Maybe eating breakfast on the go was the only way you were able to eat breakfast at all. Do you recommend recruiting your nearest and dearest to lend a hand on those first tricky trips? Or, perhaps, you finally realised that swapping the over-packed pram for a sling was the answer.

Whatever your top tips for leaving the house with a baby may be, please share them below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

As little as possible. Ready stocked changing bag with nappy essentials, change of clothes and muslins.

PashleyB · 23/04/2018 20:55

I tended to "restock" the changing bag post outing so if we had used a babygro or two i just replaced them whilst it was fresh in my mind when we got home rather than scrabbling about to get ready just as we were going out. Also useful to have a couple more nappies than you think you reasonably need. As it was it wasn't the baby bit that was so tricky - I found I carried round more miscellaneous junk when weaning!

  1. When packing your hospital bag for giving birth, pack individual sandwich bags with a nappy and an outfit. These will be easily found and help keep you organised

  2. Buy a pram that fits into your car and is lightweight. I bought a heavy, flashy pram which I really regret as it's so impractical

Sleepysausage · 23/04/2018 21:20

I used to keep a pack of nappies in the boot of my car. It meant I always had plenty when out and about bit didn't need to worry about the space they took up in my bag.

Jinglesplodge · 23/04/2018 21:44

I travel very light in terms of what I carry on me - a small bag is enough for nappies/wipes/outfit change/clean muslin. The trick is that I keep loads of other stuff in my car! We live very rurally so most trips involve driving. The boot of the car holds loads of nappies, warmer/lighter clothes, change of clothes for me in case of puke or poo disaster, calpol, nappy cream, and all the other lovely stuff that comes in handy but I wouldn't want to drag around with me.

RedPandaMama · 23/04/2018 21:52

Pack the change bag the night before. Get clothes out for myself and for baby the night before and lay everything out ready. Have a nappy and wipes in every room as there will undoubtedly be a poosplosion just as you're about to leave the house.

NoParticularPattern · 23/04/2018 22:01

Always take an alternative top out with you. You can guarantee you’ve packed spares of everything for the baby and then they will do the biggest, most inconvenient vomit of all time right down your back. Or failing that just make sure you wear patterns and rub it in with a muslin/your scarf etc!

ijustwannadance · 23/04/2018 22:01

Make sure you are completey ready to leave the house before putting baby in pram/carseat.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 23/04/2018 22:18

My one piece of advice is to repack your bag with anything you’ve used up on the same day eg nappies, clothing, clean muslin etc That way you’re always ready to go on your next adventure Smile

It can be so daunting getting out with a little one. They can be so unpredictable!
Get as much packing done the day before.
Allow lots of extra time for last minute nappy change or feed etc.
Wake up early!
Baby wipes are a life saver. I keep lots handy. They're great for the whole family!
Nappy sacks are great for packing soiled clothes into.
I always change nappies more frequently when out and about to avoid potential leaks hence keeping clothes changing to a minimum. We all know how fiddly it is dressing a baby!

Dixiestampsagain · 24/04/2018 02:53

My main tip would be, however long you think you need to get ready...you need longer! Just be prepared for every eventuality (without taking the kitchen sink).

Spices001 · 24/04/2018 06:39

Pack a bag including a change of clothes!

renas · 24/04/2018 06:39

Just make sure you have everything make a list so everytime you go out you can check you have everything.

beanlucy21 · 24/04/2018 06:53

I have a pre bag packed with nappies wipes a spare change of clothes and not forgetting Isabella's toy xx

beanlucy21 · 24/04/2018 06:55

my little girl is to young at the moment but when she is old enough to know I will explain to her why we shouldn't do it.

Bellroyd · 24/04/2018 06:55

Make sure you have everything you need and is easily accessible in an appropriate bag with a wide opening

beanlucy21 · 24/04/2018 06:59

sorry I posted in the wrong thread Blush

MissTeri · 24/04/2018 07:13

I always used to keep a bag packed with essentials by the front door. It was very helpful in getting out of the house in good time.

I would also psych myself up to say 'please don't touch' when strangers tried to touch my baby, he was premature and drew a lot of attention due to his teeny size - but I was terrified that someone may pass on a cold or other illnesses. He'd spent time in hospital after he was born and it was heartbreaking watching all the other mums take their children home whilst mine was transferred miles away to a different hospital. The last thing I wanted was for someone who may have coughed/sneezed into their hands then touching my babies hands/face!

  • Preparing things the night before - bag, clothes, spare clothes, snacks etc. Everything!
  • Set realistic times for leaving the house!
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself - it’s hard at first but it gets easier
mave · 24/04/2018 07:19

Have a bag prepared with nappies, wipes, spare vests and sleepsuits!

Imgettingcheesefries · 24/04/2018 07:23

Definitely give yourself lots of time to get ready. Remember a change of clothes for baby, I used to keep a spare T-Shirt for me in the changing bag too. Our fold up changing mat has been great for us, public baby change facilities can be gross

Sleavercole123 · 24/04/2018 07:30

I found a baby Bjorn to be really practical. I was close to my daughter and she was able to see everything that was going on and I was able to use both my hands which I wouldn’t have been able to do with a buggy

silver2011 · 24/04/2018 07:36

Always have baby bag ready with nappies spare set clothes wet wipes small toy .Extra powered milk . Spare bottle. Calpol and any thing for wind as when out and about if you have a baby with wind it's helpful to have at hand . Repack baby when home add or take out anything that needs to go so when you leave house again your not running around getting bag ready. It's enough getting baby ready and yourself. Sorry meant repack baby bag . Bibs and muslin in bag all the time .

sarat1 · 24/04/2018 08:02

Write a list of where going/what errands are so don't get confused en route

Narnianescape · 24/04/2018 08:03

Always take a spare change of clothes.
