The rules on laundry and what to do with mixing colours and fabrics can sometimes get a bit confusing with different people saying different things. Therefore Fairy Non Bio would like to know what your tips and tricks are when it comes to mixing colours and fabrics?

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio have to say: “Everyone’s got their own way of doing things. We design our products so that you can get the most out of every load but would love to know how you divide and conquer your washing and what you use for it!”

Do you find that once colours have been washed once you can mix them with the lighter colours? Are there certain fabrics that you know can be easily washed together? Or have you figured out a laundry system that means your dark colours no longer bleed into lighter clothes? Maybe you’ve had a laundry disaster that forced you to change how you did things?

Whatever your tips are, share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I use colour catcher, works a treat :)

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 22:20

NEVER buy anything white. Keep pale colours to an absolute minimum.

pennwood · 26/01/2018 22:54

I never mix whites with anything else, but colours go together on a cool wash & I use Colour Catchers so never have problems.

Cailin7 · 26/01/2018 23:00

we separate into two whites/lights and darks. any fabrics, if anything within load needs a cooler wash we wash all at 30.

Chocolatecake12 · 26/01/2018 23:11

I rarely mix colours and whites - last time I accidentally put my white vest top in with coloured clothes it came out grey!
I think the trick is to be extra careful and never mix colours and whites if the clothes are new. After a few washes I think the tendency for colour running is less.

CordeliaScott · 26/01/2018 23:30

I only wash whites with other whites. Otherwise I generally use a colour catcher sheet which seems to work to prevent colours running.

Top Tips are try to wash whites with whites and darks with darks if possible if you do have a small mixed load use a colour catcher sheet in the wash try to follow the dosage instructions or the measuring cups provided and wash on a low temps apart from bedding, towels and tea towels i always wash these on a 60 degree wash to help get rid of hidden bacteria and germs and try new scents i love it when new scents come out to try and find good matches to suit my moods.

Sezza110 · 27/01/2018 01:26

I just wash all my black clothes and colours together and leave the whites for later.

ohlittlepea · 27/01/2018 04:48

I never mix whites. zIf something is stained I always wash it on a cool wash first to avoid setting the stain. Line drying is magic for sun bleaching baby food or poo stains out of white baby clothes.

Quietvoiceplease · 27/01/2018 07:00

I wash almost everything at 30deg, so very little trouble with anything running.
Having said that, we have so much laundry, that mixing colours is rarely an issue: I can fill a machine with lights or darks any day of the week it seems! Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 27/01/2018 07:05

I put everything from one person in one weekly 40 degree load, everything from jeans to white shirts plus towels and bedding goes in together. I use colour catcher sheets, which work brilliantly.

rachelmi · 27/01/2018 08:07

Often wash on 30 degrees and delicates cycle

vonniebab2 · 27/01/2018 09:04

I always wash a low 30 I do wash my whites and sheets on a hot wash and always like to separate my colours from my whites

Rigbyroo · 27/01/2018 09:17

We don't have many whites but they go in together, every so often on a hotter wash.
Wash most things at 30 other than bedding and towels.

Mozarmstrong · 27/01/2018 09:43

Not dirty? Wash at 30! Common sense whites away from colours especially reds purples denim blue Tec. Extra spin or half spins not rocket science

emms88 · 27/01/2018 09:59

We separate laundry into white clothes, dark clothes and bright colours. Dark colours can go in with a bright coloured wash if they're old and have proven they're colour safe. I'm not too fussed about sheets and towels staying white so they can be thrown in with anything.

happysouls · 27/01/2018 10:06

We have lots of clothes and so everything is washed in batches with it's own type and there is no need to have mixed washes. It is all nice and straight forward as we tend to wear the same kind of clothing day in day out! Accumulating more of the same just simplifies the washing!

lhlee62 · 27/01/2018 10:57

We do white washes and everythng else goes in together, unless it's new jeans then we might do a dark wash. We haven't had any mishaps yet ....

jacqui5366 · 27/01/2018 13:43

Following a 'pink' disaster when I washed my burgundy jeans with some whites (on a cool wash - which I thought would work) I always have a white wash and a colour wash, I tend to wash the whites on a higher temperature than the coloured wash, and always use a colour catcher - best washing invention ever! .

FingerlingUnderling · 27/01/2018 13:56

I don't mix. White stays with whites, i quite like having a pinks, red and purple pile, blues and greens together etc. It satisfies me! I use non-bio powder for most things apart from white which get the bio treatment.

IonaAilidh11 · 27/01/2018 14:13

wash at lower temperature

elizaco · 27/01/2018 14:44

I don't risk it! Wash whites and almost-whites together, then colours seperately. All at 40c except towels/bedding which I wash at 60c

sm2012 · 27/01/2018 14:49

I don't mix colours or fabrics as a matter of course when doing the washing but if I needed to wash something that needed a lower temp I would do it seperately.

lalalauren416 · 27/01/2018 15:01

I chuck it all in together unless it's pure white or something brand new and dark/bright

lulumajor · 27/01/2018 16:43

Colour catchers definitely!!
