The rules on laundry and what to do with mixing colours and fabrics can sometimes get a bit confusing with different people saying different things. Therefore Fairy Non Bio would like to know what your tips and tricks are when it comes to mixing colours and fabrics?

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio have to say: “Everyone’s got their own way of doing things. We design our products so that you can get the most out of every load but would love to know how you divide and conquer your washing and what you use for it!”

Do you find that once colours have been washed once you can mix them with the lighter colours? Are there certain fabrics that you know can be easily washed together? Or have you figured out a laundry system that means your dark colours no longer bleed into lighter clothes? Maybe you’ve had a laundry disaster that forced you to change how you did things?

Whatever your tips are, share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I don't think garments run like they used to. I just separate into 3 - dark, white and mixed colours, wash at 40 and haven't had any issues thankfully.

AnimalAddict · 27/01/2018 17:03

Apart from whites I tend to wash everything else together :)

kittykomp · 27/01/2018 18:19

three piles - whites, darks, colours

chris8888 · 27/01/2018 18:51

I wash most things on a low temperature unless its wool.

lolamia91 · 27/01/2018 18:59

colour catchers are the best thing

Gynlais · 27/01/2018 19:25

I wash most days. Whites are always separate and washed at 60c as are bedding, colours are washed at 30c.

mo3733 · 27/01/2018 19:29

colours can be mixed successfully if you choose a low temperature wash

cherylann2461 · 27/01/2018 20:15

The whites I put on a higher temperature with a special whitening agent added, then the darks go together and then what I call the others which don't fit into those two categories.

CathBookworm · 27/01/2018 20:21

I try not to mix colours and I go for a 30 degree temp.

twinklenic · 27/01/2018 20:21

i always do whites separate, then light colours , then dark colours. Seems to be working ok for me

JoGibbons · 27/01/2018 20:38

I sort my washing into whites, colours (making sure dark denim is turned inside out), bedlinen and towels.

farhanac · 27/01/2018 21:07

Having one of those laundry baskets with separate labelled sections is useful

juju3 · 27/01/2018 21:23

A towel wash, (Never use white towels ) a colours wash, a white wash, a socks and pants wash, and a bedding wash.

rosybell · 27/01/2018 21:53

I just chuck it all in and hope for the best.

claza93 · 27/01/2018 22:01

I get a bit OTT about this - I have to wash things separately. I do a white wash, a dark wash and a coloured wash. I have started using 30 for most things apart from bedding

grannybiker · 27/01/2018 22:17

Wash at a lower temperature.
Whites only or they look grim after a few washes.
Jeans together, or with other navy stuff as they often run.

mave · 27/01/2018 22:19

I always wash whites and colours separately!

seeingdouble2 · 27/01/2018 22:33

I do three loads, whites, darks and coloured, I use the dye catchers in all loads to get any excess dye out.

DoubleLottchen · 27/01/2018 22:48

I sort everything by colour. I like seeing it all on the line all matching. I tend to wash everything at 40, and I use colour powder for colours, normal powder for whites - occasionally with a scoop of vanish too.

kiki725 · 28/01/2018 10:27

I tend to only split by colour - light/ dark - and i've not had any problems yet!

TheImprobableGirl · 28/01/2018 10:46

I never put in brand new brights or darks in with whites, otherwise it all goes grey/pink. If I had a tumble dryer and a bigger washing machine, I would love to have a particular coloured wash as I do think it keeps clothes nicer and brighter for longer. Colour catchers are great for putting in machines, but I never think to use them!

otter099008 · 28/01/2018 11:15

I always split my colours and whites into whites, lights and darks, so I've never had any issues with colours running. I've never even considered the implications of mixing different fabrics - I just bung it all in the washing machine on a 30 or 40 wash.

lovemyflipflops · 28/01/2018 11:29

I love the fragrance of fairy non-bio on my chidren's clothing, my mum used it on me and my brother, so it reminds me of my childhood too. I wash school uniforms and towels on a 30 degree wash. For other laundry I will use a higher temperature, and add some dettol laundry cleanser to underwear and sheets along with the fairy. I never ever ever put jeans in with anything else, and will always use a colour catcher just in case any dye has stayed in my machine for the next wash.

lotte321 · 28/01/2018 12:54

Whites are only whites!
Towels and dusters together.
Jeans and trousers together.
Shirts and T-shirts together.

It's not a hard process!

MunchyMunchkin · 28/01/2018 18:20

Whites separate but everything else in together with a colour catcher.
