Doing the laundry is one of those chores that can seem never ending; every time you think you’ve completed the load, the cycle begins all over again. Cue the laundry routine. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio want to know what the laundry routine is in your household.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio have to say: “We know how laundry piles up, especially with little ones running around, spilling food and playing outside. At Fairy Non Bio, we design our products so that you can keep washing simple, easy and quick; making sure your clothes are beautifully clean and gentle on skin with our fabric conditioner designed to enhance their snuggly softness. We would love to know what you do to get your washing under control and give it that extra boost!”

Do you have a laundry bag/basket for each member of your family? Perhaps you do all the whites on one day and colours on another? Do you iron as and when or all at the same time? Or maybe you pride yourself on not having a set routine?

However you organise the laundry routine in your household, share it on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck.

I wish I was more organised but I just sort of do it as it needs to be done! sometimes it piles up (usually in winter) but as a general rule usually do a load everyday depending on what needs doing. Once it's sorted into whites, colours and hot wash I just do needs doing. In the summer, it's so much easier with longer days to dry outside. In winter, the dryer gets hammered

AllBuggiedOut · 07/02/2018 17:26

I have a linen basket with three compartments; for whites, colours and darks. I wash when there is a full load in a compartment. Everything goes straight from the washing machine onto hangers and into the airing cupboard (or the washing line in summer), then away into wardrobes and drawers. I don't iron unless absolutely necessary!

Do you have a laundry bag/basket for each member of your family? No. but we do have a seperate one for "dad"!
Perhaps you do all the whites on one day and colours on another? Yes I often do a whites wash on Saturdays and Wednesdays and coloured stuff on others.
Do you iron as and when or all at the same time? I iron most stuff on Sunday and as and when if necessary.

Laundry basket in everyone's bedroom. Older children do their own washing. Mostly works

mclarkie · 07/02/2018 19:06

We don't really have a routine, but we do have separate baskets. we try to dry stuff on the line but also have a tumble drier for damp days

laurapotz · 07/02/2018 20:45

Bedding needs to be done every 3 days in our house as my husband has a severe dust mite allergy. Other than that I just try to put on at least 1 load each day. No particular order, just whatever needs doing. Ironing happens very occasionally (e.g. when my parents visit), but mostly i'm a no-iron girl!

One large laundry basket in the main bathroom which I sort through daily. Usually alternate coloured and pale washes and then towels and bedding on top. I usually iron on the day and it is put in piles in the airing cupboard and distributed every few days. One of the major household tasks but one I actually enjoy!

Minnibix · 07/02/2018 21:31

I like to get the washing, drying and folding (don't do much ironing - if I can help it :D) done on the same day, so get the washer & tumble dryer out twice a week. Everyone has their own washing bags, I wash what's in there

Dessallara · 07/02/2018 21:33

Load a day nearly every day :)

Minnibix · 07/02/2018 21:35

I like to get my washing, drying and folding done on the same day (don't do much ironing - unless I have to) so twice a week I get the washer & tumble dryer out. Everyone has their own dirty washing bags so I just wash what is in them :D

baconbap · 07/02/2018 21:47

husband puts his stuff straight in the washer not leaving much room for mine

daisyduck123 · 07/02/2018 21:59

We have one very big laundry box/basket. I wait until it's nearly full, usually about 4 days and then sort it into light and dark and handwash. I do it all in a day, wash , dry. line or tumble dry and iron as I go along.. sorted !

itsali · 07/02/2018 22:15

No set routine. I sort and put it on in the morning. Bedding and towels get washed separately.

angela121262 · 08/02/2018 00:05

I do two washes on a Saturday darks and lights and one midweek depending on what needs doing. Ofcoarse in summer I wash more frequently.

GatoradeMeBitch · 08/02/2018 00:06

The washing machine and tumble dryer are in a small annex off the kitchen. Washing is supposed to go in a plastic basket but a lot of it always seems to build up right outside the washing machine! I do my bedlinen on Saturday and DS's on Sunday, towels and flannels on Monday. DS's clothes go in the washing as soon as enough black items have accumulated. My clothes are all fairly well worn so everything can be bundled into the machine together! I tend to wash everything on the "regular wash" programme with washing powder and fabric conditioner.

Alexbe1971 · 08/02/2018 01:05

My wife does most of the washing almost every day as it's constantly non-stop.She does this in the mornings & then again in the evenings as she works a night shift. Then late on a Saturday evening or early Sunday when most of her & the kid's clothes have been washed, I get the chance to clean my work Uniform & any darks left.

fuzzywuzzy · 08/02/2018 01:16

Currently I do a daily load (I’m on maternity leave and have time for chores), maybe skip a day if laundry basket doesn’t have a full load, then I hang clothes on the airer in the living room and the cats go and knock it down by playing hide and seek amongst the hanging clothes.

I have one laundry basket in the kitchen next to the washing machine everyone brings their laundry and puts it in the basket.

I do not iron unless I absolutely have to, everyone does their own ironing as and when required.

Every Friday evening I do a uniform wash which consists of dark colours.

I normally do washloads of whatever colours/lights make up a full load.

When I’m at work I usually run the washing machine at night and hang washing out in the morning before going to work, and one of the dc will bring laundry in as they get home first.

One dc gathers up all the dry laundry and leaves it in dc1’s room, dd1 sorts out the laundry and leaves everyone’s in their rooms, everyone puts their own laundry away.

It works for us, altho ido have to ask if everyone’s uniforms are in the laundry basket as I’m going to run a wash.

Works for us.

There's a laundry basket on the landing to put dirties in. I take it downstairs when I feel the need to reduce the pile or when we've run out of clean clothes.

I put as much in the machine as I think I can get away with, on the 59 minute cycle I've no idea what's different about this cycle compared with the 44, 30 or 14 minute cycles, it just seems to me it should take about that long to wash and spin some clothes. I don't separate colours we just wear grey/off white a lot.

When done I drape the stuff all over the house until dry, then gather it in large piles in son's room, mine, or near bathroom for towels.

Repeat until dead.

vincenta · 08/02/2018 06:25

I don't have tumble dryer that's why my laundry day purely depends how good weather is outside. If it is sunny or just windy, that's it!We got one laundry basket and sometimes I am able to see bottom of it and it can even last for couple of hours!Love summer because it is easier as I can do multiple washes a day as everything get dry quickly.

JBH316 · 08/02/2018 07:51

Sunday morning, chuck it all in the machine then chuck it all in the dryer. Job done......

maursieq · 08/02/2018 08:39

husband puts on washing , drys either outside in summer or in dryer or over clothes horse for heavier stuff, folds and then I iron.

never separate, just chuck it all in at 40 - job done..

jazzitup · 08/02/2018 10:19

Monday, Wednesday & Friday works for me and trying to be organized.

maria08k · 08/02/2018 10:50

The laundry routine in our house is that muggings here does it all, gets moaned at if certain things are not washed or dried in time ( despite not having a tumble dryer ) I wade through the never ending pile and rejoice if i ever get to the bottom. Usually washed in lights, darks and brights - with one wash a day taking place ( as mentioned before getting it dry on an airer during winter is hellish and roll on spring when it goes back out on the line to dry! )

alshaz1982 · 08/02/2018 12:09

Do you have a laundry bag/basket for each member of your family?
no we just have one big one on the landing... ALTHOUGH Hubby and the kids somehow always seem to miss it and it ends up chucked on the floor NEXT to the basket!!

Perhaps you do all the whites on one day and colours on another?
i am guilty of chucking everything all in together most the time unless its something that hasnt been worn yet and is dark... i wash that on its own a few times before mixing it up..

Do you iron as and when or all at the same time?
i iron when things need it... uniforms i do on a sunday as i am waiting for my roast dinner to cook...

Or maybe you pride yourself on not having a set routine?
usually do one wash every single day... having three kids means if i miss a day of washing, i get behind on it...

i do have a set of washbags which are great for washing delicates like tights in to stop them getting ruined..

the main thing i struggle with is some stains on kids white school shirts.... paint being the worst... it just never seems to come off.

really looking forward to the summer now as i LOVE hanging washing outside to dry... so much nicer than having the tumble dryer going loudly.

Katylyn · 08/02/2018 12:55

I do about three loads a day. One towels and whites each day and on other days I will do sports kits, bedding or colours.
