Doing the laundry is one of those chores that can seem never ending; every time you think you’ve completed the load, the cycle begins all over again. Cue the laundry routine. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio want to know what the laundry routine is in your household.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio have to say: “We know how laundry piles up, especially with little ones running around, spilling food and playing outside. At Fairy Non Bio, we design our products so that you can keep washing simple, easy and quick; making sure your clothes are beautifully clean and gentle on skin with our fabric conditioner designed to enhance their snuggly softness. We would love to know what you do to get your washing under control and give it that extra boost!”

Do you have a laundry bag/basket for each member of your family? Perhaps you do all the whites on one day and colours on another? Do you iron as and when or all at the same time? Or maybe you pride yourself on not having a set routine?

However you organise the laundry routine in your household, share it on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck.

I do about 2-3 washes a week for a family of 3. We have one wash bin. Generally one colours, one whites. I iron on Mondays as its my only day off and let it build up a bit as I hate it.

kamaxtra · 05/02/2018 21:55

I do all darks together, all whites and pale greys together and then handwash seperately. I have to do the laundry at least 3x a week!

libra101 · 06/02/2018 07:07

My household laundry routine is quite straightforward and simple.

There is a laundry basket in the bathroom, and I empty it twice a week, separating whites/delicates from dark, heavier clothing, like jeans and workwear. I do two separate washes each time.

Bedding is usually done when the beds are changed, in a separate wash.

I always iron as soon as washing is dry or sometimes sooner, as I hate it lying around.

Sorted!

I do a huge was day every saturday. it washing machine is on most of the day.

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 06/02/2018 09:59

I have two laundry baskets - one for whites and one for everything else.... Whites dont seem to get done much as it dont get full but darks get full easily due to work and school uniforms.

I try to keep on top of my ironing but if im honest, it is normally toppling over before i tackle it!

HowsAnnie25 · 06/02/2018 12:56

We don't have a system and we only have one laundry basket and no real storage. There's 5 of us so I have to do it most days. I then struggle to get it dry as no tumble dryer. I don't iron anything. Once dried it gets put away. My husband works from home and when he's away working he takes his clean shirts and has them pressed while he's away (most countries don't seem to allow irons in hotel rooms).

angiehoggett · 06/02/2018 16:43

One laundry basket in bathroom for everyone. I seperate colours and delicates, jeans get their own wash when I have a few pairs to do. I wash whenever I have a full load, mostly dry in the tumble unless the weather is really nice. Ironing I do as soon as possible as I hate it mounting up!!

emene · 06/02/2018 18:44

We wash twice a week a Wednesday and a Sunday.

Loftzilla · 06/02/2018 18:56

Unlike my mum with her Monday wash days, I wash when the laundry baskets are full! Separate baskets for darks and whites makes sorting easier.Washing isn't a problem I find drying a pain, on a clothes horse against the radiator when it's raining and outside on my wall mounted Brabantia washing line, best purchase ever, when it's fine.

imustbemadme · 06/02/2018 21:10

We do a wash everyday, we use a lot of towels and I only have a washer dryer so in this weather it puts the machine out of action whilst they dry. This puts us behind a lot, I would always have a separate dryer from now on. I always wash whites at 60 and everything else at 40.

spanglisher · 06/02/2018 22:17

One basket in teenage son's room, one in ours for everything else. Empty ours daily, splitting into whites and coloureds if enough, or Colour Catcher if not. Stick on a wash or two overnight and hang to dry in the morning. Weekly yell at son to pick washing off floor and put in basket for extra washes.

tanyavt · 06/02/2018 22:51

At least one load every day... with 3 children who do a lot of sport, one husband who cycles at least 3 times a week and myself- add to that the fact the children don't seem to be able to fold their clothes and put them back in the wardrobe - they'd rather just dump them in the laundry basket! Gah!

cmcgeow · 07/02/2018 01:33

Mine is pretty simple take any dirty clothes anyone in the house has every Saturday, hang them up and let them dry, then fold and put away by Sunday

omgitslani · 07/02/2018 08:46

We don't have a complicated system; there are laundry baskets in the hallway upstairs and everyone puts dirty clothes in there. Every morning before the school run, I sort and put a load or two on. I have a dryer so everything goes straight in there, though I do have a rotary line outside for sunny days because it appears my mother was right - clothes aired outside do have a wonderful freshness about them. I iron every other evening, or my partner does.

cheryl100 · 07/02/2018 08:56

I only have one laundry basket and I switch between doing coloured and whites. I tend to put the washer on a timer so it's ready for me to put in the dryer when I wake up.
I hate ironing to I try and avoid at all costs. I will use the dryer to get rid of creases!

snare · 07/02/2018 09:42

I do dark/mixed loads most days and towels and sheets at the weekend with a load of whites at the weekend too. We all help to do the ironing on a sunday.

Nuttynelnew · 07/02/2018 10:24

With 5 Children at home my washer and dryer is on everyday

I do a wash of darks one day , dry and put away (I dont Iron)
Next day will be colours
Day after Whites
All the school uniforms are washed and sorted on a Sunday

sofieellis · 07/02/2018 11:45

I do at least one wash every day, usually two or three. I separate all the washing into darks, pastels and whites and wash whichever pile is the biggest! There are 4/5 of us usually at home, so between school uniforms, work shirts etc there is a constant pile of washing.

I hate ironing and usually do it in marathon stints while watching a box set on the TV. It's the only way I can cope with such mind numbing work!

hpsauce84 · 07/02/2018 12:32

We have one laundry basket on our landing. Despite everyone having to walk past it to go downstairs I still end up nagging to not leave clothes on bedroom floors and that includes the husband!

I have no set days for washing, just when the basket is full or an item of clothing such as school uniform is needed.

I've never ironed and don't intend to start any time soon!

Tutu81 · 07/02/2018 12:43

I do 1 load every day and am ashamed to say that I've got very lazy so it all goes in the tumble dryer each day. I don't iron a lot of things but save my ironing for a Sunday. I then put the ironing board up in the living room, put a movie on Netflix and get stuck in!

andreaca · 07/02/2018 14:53

I wash every other day or as needed, I normally dry my daughters inside because she does`nt like the outdoor smell, but If its a drying day, everything else goes outside. I love my clothes to have a lovely smell, and I use a lot of fabric conditioner. I only iron my items as I need them.

whitbyranger · 07/02/2018 16:24

i'm afraid I don't have a routine as such. I do it when I have spare time and when it's needed.

PhilTB54 · 07/02/2018 16:43

Separate work from day wear and colours too. 40 c temp. and hang dry . Tumble dryers wear clothes.

duffaho · 07/02/2018 16:59

I dont have a routine.

1 laundry basket upstairs that is taken down when full. Bedding and towels generally don't go into this basket though .They are taken down in a bundle as one washload.

Unless there is a huge amount of laundry I don't sort colours and whites . I use a low temperature wash and a small amount of detergent plus a colour catcher so not much chance of a colour run accident. If there is, there is!

I always - always do a double spin though . Things with a high polyester content can end up being almost dry with just 1200 rpm x2 spins. Towels etc dry so much more quickly so the whole load is dried overnight even with the heating off in winter.

Once the days get a little bit longer all my laundry goes outside to dry. It doesnt come in until its dry. If it gets wet it stays out there. If it gets wet again it stays out until dry and then gets re-washed . (unless I can get away with it)

HiggeldyPigsinblankets · 07/02/2018 17:11

one basket for everyone in the house, there are four of us. Usually I wash every other day one dark and one light load, with bedding being done once a week on a boil wash
