Doing the laundry is one of those chores that can seem never ending; every time you think you’ve completed the load, the cycle begins all over again. Cue the laundry routine. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio want to know what the laundry routine is in your household.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio have to say: “We know how laundry piles up, especially with little ones running around, spilling food and playing outside. At Fairy Non Bio, we design our products so that you can keep washing simple, easy and quick; making sure your clothes are beautifully clean and gentle on skin with our fabric conditioner designed to enhance their snuggly softness. We would love to know what you do to get your washing under control and give it that extra boost!”

Do you have a laundry bag/basket for each member of your family? Perhaps you do all the whites on one day and colours on another? Do you iron as and when or all at the same time? Or maybe you pride yourself on not having a set routine?

However you organise the laundry routine in your household, share it on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck.

One dirty washing basket for all the laundry. Then I wash when I have a full load- coloured, whites, towels etc. Only use tumble dryer in the winter, and only for bed linen, towels and jeans. The rest dry outside or on an airer in the kitchen.

JoGibbons · 27/01/2018 20:47

A washing basket in each bedroom. I wash and dry, then leave clean clothes outside bedrooms for the kids to put away.

juju3 · 27/01/2018 21:17

1 wash a day in cheap rates
No ironing

grannybiker · 27/01/2018 22:04

Errrm, no system here.
I tend to wash everything at 40 (Don't buy anything that needs careful handling) with either coloured or biological powder.
I add a slosh of cheapie disinfectant to deal with the germs that won't be killed at lower temps.
Line or airer-in-the-conservatory dried, then finished off in the airing cupboard.
No ironing, unless we've been to a funeral / interview / wedding, then there's a shirt that tends t hang about until the next funeral when it's done the night before

I do the laundry as and when needed but iron at the weekend before school and work!!!

farhanac · 27/01/2018 22:32

All very haphazard unfortunately - in need of a more settled routine

fivekidsonemum · 27/01/2018 22:45

With 5 kids every single day it's-
7 towels, 5 pairs of pjs, 5 pairs of socks, 5 full uniforms 5 sets of after school clothes and 1 muddy workmans clothes and his coat every night & extras like 5 PE kits and 6 coats of a weekend so it's a case of throw it all in as soon as kids are in bed then dry it in the night in the tumble drier ( and hoping nothing shrinks) and iron it when needed because I'm so busy that I don't have time to stand and iron and fold away everything just for it to be dragged back out in a few hours again and I hate ironing an folding clothes more than anything !

Washes go on most days. Teen constantly asked to bring down stuff to go in but doesn't, so there's a crisis about once a week when there's nothing clean. A huge and unsavoury pile then appears. It goes in on it own Grin.

On washing day I empty the two laundry baskets by chucking thes contents over the bannister so it lands in a heap at the bottom. If I'm lucky a child or two will be at the bottom, eager to have the laundry chucked on them Smile Unfortunately that's where the fun ends. I sort the laundry into about eight baskets: jeans, darks, whites, pastels, sports, towels (two baskets of some). Then into the washing machine they go followed by the tumble dryer for most or the airer for some. Very occasionally I hang stuff outside but tbh I'd be there all day (several days in bad weather) if I did that for all of it. I use dryer balls for the towels to bring them up fluffy.
And then I iron about 90% of it which takes about five hours and is done whilst watching television - I have built up a vast collection of movies and tv dramas over the years Grin

I don't really have a routine as such. It's more of a "oh my word how did all that laundry build up?!" then a mad rush to get it all clean and dry that day.

kiki725 · 28/01/2018 10:26

I start on Friday and tackle the washing basket. Saturday I strip the bed. Sunday I iron and then i ignore everything until Friday again!

TheImprobableGirl · 28/01/2018 10:40

I am of the lazy state of mind in which I stick it all in, on a 40 degree wash, every other day until the washing pile is gone! More in the summer when things dry faster :)

lovemyflipflops · 28/01/2018 11:10

I have a laundry basket in my bathroom for my towels which I just use fairy on, because I love the fragrance it gives off. I have a 'sorting' laundry basket on my landing for everything else lights darks and underwear. Try to wash on a daily basis, and love to have a washing line of clothes blowing dry. I love fairy non-bio on my lights and darks, and add the dettol laundry cleanser with the underwear wash. If I have a small wash (school uniform which is blue and white I do the quick wash, add a fairy tab and a colour catcher to keep the whites white.

We have one laundry basket for our family of 2 adults and 2 teenage girls. That generally gets full every other day.

While the girls are at school and husband is at work, the laundry fairy (me) comes.

Basket is split into whites and darks and I do one load for each. Tumble dry in the winter, washing line in the summer.

Ironing is done twice a week, by the ironing fairy (again, me).

Towels are done weekly, bedding fortnightly.

I don't think any other member of my household knows how to operate the washing machine, tumble dryer or iron. Or so they say!

RiSo · 28/01/2018 14:41

I do 2 or 3 coloured loads during the week, depending on how much we have. Then on a Friday night I make sure all the uniform darks are in the machine, ready to tumble/line dry on a Saturday. Saturday the main wash is the weekly white load of all white shirts/vests/tshirts that have stockpiled over the week. Then once all that is done the bedding gets done. During the summer everything goes outside to dry. Colder months we tumble or put stuff on the airer, depending how quickly it is needed.

paranoidpammywhammy2 · 28/01/2018 14:53

I do washing on Monday, Ironing Tuesday, Put Away Wednesday.

We each have a laundry basket. I sort out on Sunday evening - whites, coloured, delicates/wool and hand wash.

The first wash goes in the machine on Sunday night but not put on. First thing on Monday it goes on.

badgermum · 28/01/2018 19:22

I have no laundry routine it just gets done as and when. I am lucky enough to have a utility room for just laundry so I can sort and wash with ease, the ironing gets done twice a week and bedding gets washed at the weekend

chrissy53438 · 28/01/2018 19:37

No routine. Just do some when the basket is full.

farqualar2 · 28/01/2018 20:16

All loads on a weekend and two during the week especially when the pile looks dangerously high. Ironing on a Sunday morning whilst lunch is cooking

cheekychicken24 · 28/01/2018 20:55

No set routine here - where possible I wash on sunny days as we have solar panels, so it means the machine's running for less money. Our old machine broke just before Christmas, so we've gone from a 6kg capacity to 10. It's amazing the difference it's made! It also has a 35 minute quickwash option, so uniforms can usually go through on this. It means I can comfortably wash & dry several loads a day, meaning the machine doesn't have to go on every day.

Ikea1234 · 28/01/2018 20:58

Routine?! ROUTINE?! The basket gets full, I wash it (sorting as best I can) The basket gets full, I wash it......you get the picture!

HelenSw4les · 28/01/2018 21:19

All items go into the laundry basket and are then sorted into whites/colours etc which is then brought downstairs in their respective piles. I have no set days for washing but just do it when it builds up.

Towels are washed twice weekly and bedding is washed every 10 days, sometimes more often if we get a bright and breezy day.

SistersOfPercy · 28/01/2018 23:19

Yeah no routine here either, though I did invest in a two compartment wash basket for whites and colours. Even so my two adult children struggled with the concept until they realised their washing wasn't getting done if put in the wrong basket.

I'm a recent convert to fairy actually and I rather love it. Previously I had a bottle of bio for whites, a bottle of non bio for colors and even tried a new liquid aimed at darks. Finally concluded it was all a bit of a gimmick and now just use fairy.

Izzi1991 · 29/01/2018 01:45

We haven't got a dryer so we wash the clothes here and take them to the local laundrette.

cwalliss82 · 29/01/2018 06:09

My DH is in charge of laundry. He keeps on top of everything and we never iron. If we own something that needs ironing then it never gets worn. The clothes are hung up in the spare room on a clothes horse and over the radiator.
