Doing the laundry is one of those chores that can seem never ending; every time you think you’ve completed the load, the cycle begins all over again. Cue the laundry routine. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio want to know what the laundry routine is in your household.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio have to say: “We know how laundry piles up, especially with little ones running around, spilling food and playing outside. At Fairy Non Bio, we design our products so that you can keep washing simple, easy and quick; making sure your clothes are beautifully clean and gentle on skin with our fabric conditioner designed to enhance their snuggly softness. We would love to know what you do to get your washing under control and give it that extra boost!”

Do you have a laundry bag/basket for each member of your family? Perhaps you do all the whites on one day and colours on another? Do you iron as and when or all at the same time? Or maybe you pride yourself on not having a set routine?

However you organise the laundry routine in your household, share it on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck.

Do it when we start to run short of clean clothes .

prwilson · 26/01/2018 12:42

Monday is wash day. Everything must be in the wash basket before that or it doesn't get washed.

sweir1 · 26/01/2018 13:13

We do not have one! That is the problem!

sandy31 · 26/01/2018 13:17

Easy, when it's dirty wash it, but seriously it's all hands on deck for collecting the washing the it's down to mum to get it done. They do enjoy helping with the hanging out though.

Ranita · 26/01/2018 13:36

Mixed load every other week day. Saturday for whites(school shirts and vests). Delicates on a Sunday.

strawberrisc · 26/01/2018 13:47

Groundhog day! I use in-wash capsules. Dark clothes one day, whites the next, bedding once a week and clean the washing machine once a month.

Several of us and the dog have sensitive skin so I am careful to choose sensitive powder/liquids. I do a large amount of laundry every Thursday (day off) and if there is anything extra I will do an extra load as and when it is needed. I iron as little as necessary just work/school shirts but bed linnen and pajamas are not ironed. I try to dry on a line when possible.

When the washing basket is half full we put on a wash. If we haven’t enough whites to warrant a wash we wait until there is more.
As soon as the washing is dry....preferably by being outside...I iron it. It means that I iron relatively small amounts and so I don’t have to stand at an ironing board for hours on end.

helly27 · 26/01/2018 14:25

Bedding once a month, towels every two uses school uniform changed midweek washed at weekend others lights and darks when needed to be done

glennamy · 26/01/2018 14:38

Laundry basket that has two sides for whites and colours... although eldest daughter would not know this as she thinks the floor is appropriate! Wash gets done when a load is reached... Ironing is done by myself as my standards are high! :)

Ganne1 · 26/01/2018 14:44

I wash clothes at the weekend, and bedding and towels mid-week ... then I do the ironing whenever whenever the clothes are dry and there's something on television

cathwarbur · 26/01/2018 14:46

Everyone sorts out their own washing (Colours & wites) and all put it in the appropriate pile. When the washing is at a cetain amount I will wash it (Not overfilling machine) So I tend to do washing on the day there is a cetain amount

MSHGW · 26/01/2018 14:49

I wash all the bedding once a week, usually on Sunday. Everything else is put in the wash when the laundry basket is full.

Funkyferret · 26/01/2018 14:56

Our system is quite simple: Every Monday evening, dump laundry out of the baskets onto the kitchen floor. All colourfast items bar white get a quickwash at 30 degrees (anything really filthy gets a pre-soak in a bucket with stain remover). Repeat according to how much there is. Then do whites at a higher temperature quickwash (again pre-soaked in stain remover if marked). Towels and bedding on a Wednesday, a full cycle but still just a 50 degree rather than boil wash. If anyone needs anything urgently outwith these times they'll just do it. No ironing unless absolutely necessary!

mooota1514 · 26/01/2018 14:58

I do a load pretty much every day. I wash mine and my husbands separately from my 2 year olds - no idea why really!!! I really want a tumble dryer as it’s so hard to get things dry at this time of year. I’ve got a big heated airer but it’s still great.

RACHELSMITH45 · 26/01/2018 15:14

Its definitely neverending!! As I work part time, I do a few loads Mon and Tues and then the rest usually waits until Friday night. I put half away midweek and the rest on a Saturday which is when most of the housework also gets done. Bedding can be every fortnight, towels tend to be weekly!(after a couple of uses)

Teresa11 · 26/01/2018 15:23

No real routine - no set days or anything, I usually just do it when it needs doing.

We have a laundry basket for each family member. The kids washing usually needs doing about 2-3 times a week, my partner & me usually 1-2 times a week.

liz1970 · 26/01/2018 15:46

I wash every other day, separate darks and whites. I then hang them on the maiden to dry then iron when dry :)

kimbers85 · 26/01/2018 16:53

i wash every other day to keep on top of all my washing and i just do a whites once a week as we dont often have whites to wash x

giddyypixie · 26/01/2018 17:27

We have one laundry basket for the family. As, and when there are enough lights/darks to do a load, then I do so. Usually every couple days! Towels are done every couple days and bedding is every Saturday.

callkiki · 26/01/2018 18:03

Tend to just to laundry as there is a load of whites or darks. I rarely iron unless it's for something special. I try to never let it pile up.

jen1984j · 26/01/2018 18:20

I do white washes at weekends and darks and colored through the week

LauraMMM · 26/01/2018 18:46

I dont really have a set routine. The washing machine is on every 2 days with having a family and my husbands work clothes get dirty every day. I wash everything together on a 40 degree wash and use conditioner as well as powder. This helps with fluffing up towels especially. If i buy a new item that is bright red for example I will wash with just dark items but after the first wash i put it all together. I iron when there are a few items to be done but most things go in the tumble dryer and hung up straight away so there arent any creases. I do most the washing however my husband likes to put non tumble dryer items in the drying cupboard himself, he has a way of doing it and i wont complain and stop him! I have one washing basket in my bedroom and the kids know to put any washing in their.

arat · 26/01/2018 19:04

kids' washing: Friday/Saturday/Tuesday
mine: Monday/Thursday
DH's: whenever!

tabbaz123 · 26/01/2018 19:18

A busy foster home with many coming and going so there are no firm routines when it comes to washing apart from bed linen and towels on a Sunday
I detest Ironing so usually try to air dry or soft tumble and hang on hangers straight away
