so many delicious ideas on this thread!

our family favourite is 'italian' chicken, which is a breaded chicken breast topped with a tomato based sauce (homemade tomato sauce used for pasta or dolmio type if short of time! I prefer to make my own then can hide veg in it) then topped with cheese and baked in oven. served with couscous/potato's or on top of pasta

also love tradional favourites like spag bol, shepherds pie, gammon, sausage casserole, sausage & mash, lasagne, quiche, chicken pie, fish cakes

BeckyJayne23 · 18/01/2018 12:23

Spaghetti and meatballs is always a hit. Tinned tomatoes, garlic, stock cube and tomato puree then any vegetable I can find in the fridge that I can hide for extra goodness goes in!

Also easy pasta - Make a sauce using vegetable stock, phili herb cheese and a bit of pesto, then add pasta, chicken and green vegetables.

My dc's current favourite:

Chicken and Pearl Barley Slow Cook

Packet of dried onions and a cup of pearl barley mixed together in the SC.
Lay a couple of bay leaves on top.
Cover with sliced leek.
Cover that with sliced mushrooms.
Lay two packets of chicken thighs, skin-side up, on top.
Pour a generous glass of red wine over all of it.
Pour chicken stock over all of it, until the liquid just touches the chicken.
Cook on low for about 6h.

Served 5.

Chilli con carne
Chicken curry
Fajitas
Cottage pie
Spaghetti and meatballs
Bolognese
Steak pie, new potatoes and veg
Beef casserole
Jacket potatoes, bbq chicken legs and salad.
Nando's bbq steak and lemon rice.

DesignedForLife · 18/01/2018 14:14

Cottage pie! I cut up lots of carrots and put in peas and sweet corn to add veg and make the meat go further. Winner every time!

duck22 · 18/01/2018 18:26

The absolute favorite in our house is toad in a hole. They come running to the table before I even called and everything always disappears

cheshiremama89 · 18/01/2018 18:48

Tray bake of chicken breasts, sweet potato, peppers and onions smothered in pesto

Served with a dollop of sour cream

TheOriginalNNB · 18/01/2018 20:47

Everyone loves a shepherds pie in our house - with greens, as it seems to complement the sweetness of the lamb.

Everyon always eats pasta in any form. Wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a fave, but it’s quick and easy and I know it’ll get finished by everybody. Salad on the side.

Omelette and chips popular too.

StickChildNumberTwo · 18/01/2018 21:05

My two year old is all about the pasta, so we eat a lot of macaroni cheese (with veg and some protein stirred through - often bacon or smoked salmon), Bolognese type sauces, or my husband's speciality 'greasy pasta' - pasta with bacon, pesto, onion, mushroom and cheese.

WreckTangled · 18/01/2018 21:16

We have a few that are on the menu time and time again. Lentil dahl is currently the favourite with naan and popadoms. I do a diced salad which is simply cucumber, celery, pepper and tomato.

They also love chilli but won't eat the kidney beans Hmm I get lots of veg into it and they usually just have a bowl of chilli with a few tortilla chips and cheese on top.

Wraps which they can fill themselves are another favourite they usually go for hummus and grated carrot then have chicken, olives and tomatoes on the side.

theAntsareMyFriends · 18/01/2018 21:33

I make veggie burgers at least every fortnight.

I use any veg I need to use up and a tin of beans. I cook the veg by either frying (onions, pepper, grated carrots, grated courgette, etc) and then adding mashed beans or boiling (carrots, other root veg, squash broccoli, cauliflower, etc) and then adding beans and mashing all together. Add a beaten egg, stir in some flour and bread crumbs if the mixture looks too wet, shape into burger shapes and bake or fry.

Easy, healthy and good for using stuff up. I make small ones for the baby and for eating in pitta bread or larger ones for eating in bread rolls.

Headfullofdreams · 19/01/2018 11:58

Spag Bol, veggie chilli, Sunday roast. Curry

CranjisMcBasketball · 19/01/2018 12:17

Tortilla pie. Take two largish tortillas, line or grease an ovenproof dish with a teaspoon if oil. Place one tortilla in dish and press well. Tear up some ham and sprinkle over tortilla along with grated cheese. Crack two or three eggs over the cheese and ham. Sprinkle some black peppervover the yolks. Place second tortilla over the top and press the edges together (I use a fork). Sprinkle any remaining cheddar on top and cook in hot oven for about 30-35 mins.

Bacon and mushrooms with pasta in a cheese sauce.

Cook the pasta and whilst it is boiling cut the bacon into strips fry for 5 minutes and then add the mushrooms. Transfer into a big pan whilst you make the cheese sauce. Put 1oz butter, 1oz plain flour and half a pint of milk in a pan, keep stirring until the sauce thickens and then add cheese to taste. By now the pasta will be ready so drain and add to the pan with the bacon and mushrooms and pour over the cheese sauce, stir and serve with Parmesan and garlic bread

itsonlysubterfuge · 19/01/2018 17:40

Our favourite meal in this house, which is code for my dds favourite food is chilli.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 19/01/2018 22:52

We don’t use jar sauces as it doesn’t agree with DH’s stomach (he’s got bad reflux) so I like to make spaghetti bol etc from scratch. We sometimes like to do a ‘cinema food’ night - hotdogs and nachos with popcorn for afterwards - when we want a quick and easy meal on a Friday / Saturday night.

Toadsrevisited · 20/01/2018 07:48

Risotto : same base for everyone, roast squash and blue cheese in ours, mushroom and parmesan in the DC's.

puddleduckmummy · 20/01/2018 11:35

My kids love fisherman's pie; cod, haddock and prawns in a creamy white sauce with leeky mash on top. They also love salmon and broccoli pasta bake too. Other than that, they are mash and gravy kids!!! My son loves sitting up the 'big table' and eating together, we don't often get to do this due to my husbands shifts but they love it when we do!

DoubleLottchen · 20/01/2018 11:56

Favourites in this house go through cycles, sometimes it seems like I am making them every week, then not for ages.

We like spaghetti bolognese, lasagne (I make a veg one with goat's cheese, leeks and aubergines), beef stew with carrots and guiness, glazed baked ham served with cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes, pasta with bacon, broccoli, pesto and pine nuts.

But to be honest, the absolute favourite is sausages with jacket potatoes, baked beans and peas Hmm - it's always suggested by someone when we are wondering what to cook that week.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 20/01/2018 13:23

Eggs, chips and beans if I’m feeling lazy.
Hunters chicken if I feel like spending longer in the kitchen.
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar and 2 of sugar.
An onion
Pasata
Clove of garlic
Simmered and blitzed to make a bbq sauce. Poured over cooked chicken breast with bacon wrapped around and cheese sprinkled on top. Oven bake for 30 minutes.

Yum!

boptanana · 20/01/2018 18:11

Pasta , pesto, ham , mushrooms and broccoli with Parmesan and toasted pine nuts

ALickyBoomBoomDown · 20/01/2018 19:31

Garlic mushrooms on toast - slice mushrooms, fry in garlic butter, add cream and leave to thicken. Toast some nice crusty bloomer bread and serve.

Egg fried rice and crunchy veg - fry off a pack of microwave rice, add an egg and stir through some soy sauce. Stir fry some speciality broccoli from Lidl, mange tout and peas, then add Lidl's oyster stir fry sauce.

Fish, chips and mushy peas - always have chips and a four pack of fish in freezer. Lidl own mushy peas are my favourite. So much better than branded ones!

We have 3 favourite recipes that have been passed down from my nan, to my mum and now to me for when I cook for my family and these are beef stroganoff, chilli and chicken korma. The meals are so yummy and loved by all. Family favourites that is for sure 😊
