Christmas is coming (FAST!) - and the team at Lidl would love to hear all about your family Christmas moments - perhaps from your own childhood or memories you are creating with and for your own children?

Are you a super-organised shopper, a festive fashionista in your Christmas jumper, or more of a last-minute panicker? Do you do ‘stir-up Sunday’ to create your perfect Christmas pudding or cake? Is there a tradition of choosing your tree that the whole family look forward to? What about when you were a child - are there older family traditions you recreate or look back on fondly which help get you in the community spirit?

Whatever your Christmas traditions are, Lidl would love to hear them!

Please post them on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note the winner will be sent 4 x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck

Christmas stockings (hand sewn and embroidered by me) were my sons favourite part of Christmas - lots of little and mostly yummy surprises inside and even though they are both in their mid thirties they still insist on them!

meepmoop79 · 04/11/2017 21:53

Tree and decorations do not got up until the 20th. Gin and carrots are left for Santa and the reindeer.
No going downstairs to get the presents until seven o'clock on Chritmas day.

Every year all the extended family (aunties, cousins, nan, grandad etc) all gather on Christmas Morning at 11am at my aunties house to exchange gifts and all my cousins get excited about what we got, then we go home for Xmas dinner separately because Boxing Day we have a huge party at my aunties house with lots of food and dancing it's the most amazing time, it's not often every single member meets up so it's really special and we all look forward to it all year, we've made some amazing memories over the days.

SSCRASE123 · 04/11/2017 22:01

My wife and I always swap a small gift on the stroke of Xmas Eve Midnight and toast that our children are happily asleep ready for a big day tomorrow.

mummykate87 · 04/11/2017 22:02

We're starting a new tradition this year! Our daughter will be turning 1 just before Christmas and the whole family comes Christmas day, so Christmas eve will be our yearly fake Christmas, just the 3 of us, and we'll be making sure that we have an awesome day together.

pennwood · 04/11/2017 22:04

When I was little I always helped to dress the Christmas tree & this is a tradition I have carried on with my daughter, & we always put out the nativity scene my mum made.

pfcpompeysarah · 04/11/2017 22:26

My son and I always go to my mum and stepdads at xmas, even though we now live round the corner from them. We go there xmas eve and make mince pies and watch films with a sneaky hand in a few xmas choccie boxes, then on xmas day we always have a cooked breakfast, the obligatory christmas roast, and a lovely salad and cold meat dish for tea, this has to be followed by watching a rubbish film or playing a board game, if we stay awake that long!!

sweir1 · 04/11/2017 23:12

We go round to my mums but we all have to bring a part of the meal with us!

Sid98 · 04/11/2017 23:19

I give gifts to my neighbours

patchysmum · 04/11/2017 23:41

I always make a big trifle for tea on Boxing day as did my mum and grandma very refreshing after heavy Christmas cake puddings and mince pies

LeeR1985 · 05/11/2017 00:00

I plan everything in advance, especially with presents. Get it all done nice and early so its out of the way. We celebrate it every year at my mums, she makes the best roast!

lhlee62 · 05/11/2017 00:23

The tree goes up on the 1st Dec as my daughter's birthday is the 28th Nov and we make sure she has a good day before we start decorating for Christmas. We always go to see Santa and we visit the local Christmas markets.

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 05/11/2017 07:19

My husband is Swedish, so on Christmas Eve we do a whole Swedish Christmas with lots of traditional Swedish food and drink and presents, then on Christmas Day we do a traditional English Christmas with all the trimmings. Double Christmas!

Fabulousdahlink · 05/11/2017 07:32

We have a. Long standing tradition to 'start' christmas with friends with children. They come for the weekend in late November/ Early december and we put up the tree and decorations, eat good food, drink lots of wine, play board games, listen to christmas music all weekend long then go out for wintery walks...it really starts the festive season off! Our.children love it and long may it continue! This year I'm starting a new tradition..frow one of.the scandanavian countries..the giving of books on christmas.eve so that.we can all.relax in our pj's in front of our.open fire reading something new with mugs of hot chocolate!!

sparky771177 · 05/11/2017 08:00

I'm allowed to open one of my presents on Xmas eve night, as my birthday is on Xmas day.

EmilyK83 · 05/11/2017 08:26

Our traditions all seem to revolve around food and timings of the day in my family - party food the night before, a healthy breakfast on Christmas morning, stockings can be opened whenever you like but main presents can't be opened until everyone's up, dressed and eaten!

Our first baby is due this February, though, and this is mine and my husband's first Christmas just the two of us - we're looking forward to starting our own traditions this year!

happiestcamper · 05/11/2017 08:42

Our favourite Xmas tradition is a long walk with all of the family that have arrived from various places around the world to be together. We go to our local marina for a hot chocolate (and maybe an ice cream for the children if they are brave enough and it isn't snowing) we then get a yearly family photo taken in the same spot. It's the only time we are all together every year and its lovely

Marg2k8 · 05/11/2017 09:26

I remember when I was a child seeing someone walk down the road dressed as santa and I thought he was the real deal.

wjanice121 · 05/11/2017 09:47

It was the worst time when it happened but looking back it was funny and great. When I was about 9 my parents bought me and by two brothers a PC (a joint present). They didn't have much money and therefore there wasn't many other presents. The electricity went off (bad weather) on Christmas Eve and didn't return until 3 days after Christmas. We coudnt play with the PC or have Christmas dinner. Luckily mum had cooked the Turkey before it went off and therefore we had a family walk to the beach (nothing better to do) and returned to turkey sandwiches.

AR2012 · 05/11/2017 09:55

Christmas dinner with a nice roasted chicken and lamb. We dont do turkey as its doesn't go down well in our household and the butchers only carry the very large birds.

babs2209 · 05/11/2017 10:12

All the Family Trip to Boxing Day local panto!
Oh No you don't - Oh YES we do!!!!
(back to mine for supper!)

Lisapaige24 · 05/11/2017 10:25

A big Christmas breakfast with a glass of bucks fizz with all the family give each other presents whilst blasting out the Christmas tunes is our Christmas tradition

devito92 · 05/11/2017 10:41

We always go to a pantomime

CopperPan · 05/11/2017 10:42

We go for a bus ride on the double decker buses to see the Christmas lights. We have a big family Christmas with my parents, sisters and their dc all together (and sometimes some ILs as well). Always gets hectic but it's a lot of fun.

liz1970 · 05/11/2017 10:44

We put up the tree together as a family, lovely family time :)
