Christmas is coming (FAST!) - and the team at Lidl would love to hear all about your family Christmas moments - perhaps from your own childhood or memories you are creating with and for your own children?

Are you a super-organised shopper, a festive fashionista in your Christmas jumper, or more of a last-minute panicker? Do you do ‘stir-up Sunday’ to create your perfect Christmas pudding or cake? Is there a tradition of choosing your tree that the whole family look forward to? What about when you were a child - are there older family traditions you recreate or look back on fondly which help get you in the community spirit?

Whatever your Christmas traditions are, Lidl would love to hear them!

Please post them on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note the winner will be sent 4 x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck

Our Christmas traditions include ... decs and tree up on the 1st... a Christmas film on Christmas Eve ... traditional Christmas Turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Christmas pudding and chocolate Yule log (for the kids, they don’t like Christmas pud)

I love the build up to Christmas, so this year I am making my 15 month DD an activity advent calendar with something for us to do each day. From baking mint chocolate cookies, reading a story under the Christmas tree lights, making a donation to a good cause to having breakfast with Santa. I can’t wait to start it this year and then adapt the activities each year as she grows, obviously some will become traditions and so will have to stay!

amelia4levi · 05/11/2017 12:12

we cut the italian panettone at EXACTLY midnight on XMAS Eve!!

beckyinman · 05/11/2017 12:55

We have stockings on Christmas morning then have everyone round for a buffet lunch (there's about 30 people) and do little gifts, then on Boxing Day when there's only about 8 of us we have proper present opening and full roast dinner

katslo4 · 05/11/2017 13:37

One of our traditions is that my partner always carries the tree home. We did it one year and it has now become a tradition. Also, kids always have new Christmas PJs and book on Christmas Eve.

Family lucky dip of presents - everyone buys one present under £5 / homemade and we get one out of a hat - then try and guess who bought it!

sophiefx · 05/11/2017 14:34

We started last year having a Christmas eve box that contains a movie, a book, a toy, santas plate and matching pajamas for the whole family. We then watch a movie in our pajamas Christmas eve whilst she plays with her toy and at bedtime, read her the new "Christmassy" book! Makes Christmas eve that bit more special!

We go into a log cabin in the new forest every christmas and new year. Take all the food needed with us and even the tree :) We're there from the day before xmas eve until Jan 2nd. Even the cat comes with us lol it's a tradition we've done for over a decade.

emmav6 · 05/11/2017 15:48

lots of lovely traditions, the children always dress the tree, make mince pies for santa on xmas eve & always wear xmas jumpers on xmas day :)

Rachdayan · 05/11/2017 15:49

Picking one present from underneath the Christmas tree to open on Christmas Eve. The sitting down in the glow of the tree lights to watch Muppets Christmas Carol.

jen1984j · 05/11/2017 16:07

We always open a pressie each on xmas eve

spottypjs · 05/11/2017 16:15

Always watching Santa Claus the movie on Christmas eve.

Diamonddust1 · 05/11/2017 16:42

I always book a surprise every year for my family, from a helicopter ride over London, a weekend trip to Barcelona and even a trip to New York. We always remember Xmas. 🎄

sootyo · 05/11/2017 17:09

Buffet tea Christmas Eve , with Christmas songs playing whilst we play games.

MissJadeA · 05/11/2017 17:12

Our tradition is putting all the decorations up together! On Christmas Eve, we tidy up whilst listening to Christmas songs & have a good sing song. In the evening, we have a nibble night with a 'Christmas Eve present' to get us all excited! And on Christmas morning, my Dad is the first person up who spends a good half an hour trying to wake everyone up by being loud. (We now have a rule of no earlier than 7am). We sit on our parents bed to open our stockings, then go downstairs.. (With my Dad saying "Has he been? Oh my god he's been!"..Despite us 3 kids being in our 20's)..By far the best time of the year. It's a good laugh in our house!

alsproject · 05/11/2017 17:19

We are slowly replacing our Christmas tree decorations by buying a new handmade one each year

Ranita · 05/11/2017 17:24

New pj's for Christmas Eve. Got to look your best for Santa.

arat · 05/11/2017 19:25

Christmas stockings - full of odd little things (often £land specials!) but DCs love it (even though they are too old for them really @ 13 & 10!)

Beach11 · 05/11/2017 20:00

DS & DD have a special plate & glass to leave Santa’s treats & carrots for the rain deer. They like to paint baubles to give to their grandparents which they cherish

EasterRobin · 05/11/2017 20:07

I enjoy taking DD (2) to a budget shop for her to pick out a little (£1 or so) present for each of her relatives. She picks out some very odd presents but they are very reflective of her developing interests and personality.

sunshinewey · 05/11/2017 20:08

My tradition is to make the family rum mince pies, the;y all love them so much....

freefan · 05/11/2017 20:35

We go to the Panto every year and then out to the midnight service on Christmas Eve and after this we come home to hot chocolate, cream and marshmallows.
Then stockings are hung up and bed to let Santa come :)

EmNix · 05/11/2017 20:54

We always have one small present saved for boxing day teatime.

dul4hw · 05/11/2017 21:41

On Christmas Eve I write a letter to my two boys about the things they have done, they ways they have made me proud or made me laugh and put it in a box to keep.

towser44 · 05/11/2017 21:44

Cheese board, with a cheese brought by each and every guest on it!
