Christmas is coming (FAST!) - and the team at Lidl would love to hear all about your family Christmas moments - perhaps from your own childhood or memories you are creating with and for your own children?

Are you a super-organised shopper, a festive fashionista in your Christmas jumper, or more of a last-minute panicker? Do you do ‘stir-up Sunday’ to create your perfect Christmas pudding or cake? Is there a tradition of choosing your tree that the whole family look forward to? What about when you were a child - are there older family traditions you recreate or look back on fondly which help get you in the community spirit?

Whatever your Christmas traditions are, Lidl would love to hear them!

Please post them on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note the winner will be sent 4 x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck

Our main tradition is that we put the Christmas tree together with decorations :)

Candyperfumegirl · 04/11/2017 16:50

We decorate a ginger bread house then leave rum out for santa 😉

sammylea80 · 04/11/2017 17:15

A Christmas stocking is left at the end of the bed, these presents can be opened Christmas morning so that the kids don't wake up the adults too early :D They always have a game for them to play

xcxcsophiexcxc · 04/11/2017 17:19

It's our tradition to go to Colchester zoo and visit santas grotto! This year I get to take my little one ! Xx

AnimalAddict · 04/11/2017 17:24

We always get Christmas stockings :)

maryandbuzz1 · 04/11/2017 17:29

WE always go together to choose the Christmas tree and spend the afternoon decorating it.
Our present opening has traditionally been 11am ....with the dog tearing all the wrapping paper so the room is strewn with tiny pieces of paper, and then we always have a mince pie and coffee

moonray · 04/11/2017 17:44

My favouriteChristmas tradition is advent calendars! I have had one every year for as long as I can remember (why does one have to stop having advent calendars just because he/she is grown up?!) . My kids normally get chocolate ones, and I choose them based on what they are into. Also, the whole family gets together to decorate our nativity scene and Christmas tree

Funkyferret · 04/11/2017 17:53

We always make going out to get the tree an occasion. We probably look at every tree in the yard before deciding then treat ourselves to dinner out before heading home to decorate.

tiameg · 04/11/2017 18:02

We get everything prepped for Christmas day, all get showered, bathed and in PJ's then watch a Muppet Christmas Carol & The Nightmare before Christmas before getting an early night :)

badgermum · 04/11/2017 18:10

Our Christmas traditions are on Christmas eve as soon as it gets dark we have to prepare for Santas visit by hanging up Stocking and putting out a bowl of water ad carrots for the reindeer and a mince pie and glass of milk for Santa the children usually like to draw him picture too, then it's time to get into pajamas and read 1 or 4 Christmas stories and usually we watch The Snowman film before bed when the stockings get placed at the end of the beds

vonniebab2 · 04/11/2017 18:12

Having all the family round for a Christmas Eve meal

purplevamp · 04/11/2017 18:29

Our decorations go up on 130 November, whilst listening to Christmas songs on the music channels and get "switched on" on 1 December. On Christmas Eve we always read How the Grinch Stole Christmas and watch a Christmas movie.

APJ1 · 04/11/2017 18:32

Chilling out together in the afternoon, after opening all our presents and filling ourselves with food.

modzy78 · 04/11/2017 18:42

I've actually combined a tradition of mine and my husband's for our family. I grew up with stockings hanging on the mantlepiece on Christmas Eve. He grew up with sacks at the foot of the bed (actually carrier bags switched out for bin bags, which I'd never go for). We don't have a mantle, so we can't hang stockings unless I'm very creative. And I like the idea of having some gifts for children to access first thing. His parents did things like books or video games that would occupy time (and probably let them have a bit more sleep- how clever). So we have stockings that are placed at the foot of the bed. Gives the best of both worlds and respects where we each came from.

games and quizzes. we spend 3 days of constantly playing games , its great. Last year there were 14 of us .

stefalfie11 · 04/11/2017 19:20

We go to watch the christmas swim in the sea on Christmas morning. The majority of the participants are dressed up and the atmosphere is brilliant!

ameswright2906 · 04/11/2017 19:29

We put the tree up on the 1st December and we listen to Christmas music while doing it - I do the tree and my hubby does the lights and the kids try and help (they're all under 5!). I have a Baileys and put the glitter decorations on because my husband hates glitter!

Catmadroo · 04/11/2017 19:33

Putting up the Christmas tree together and watching my son open his presents in morning from Santa

cheekychicken24 · 04/11/2017 20:13

Making mince pies on Christmas Eve to leave one for Santa, & stockings opened in bed on Christmas Morning.

Also laughing at my mum in law laying the table for Christmas lunch & getting in a muddle folding napkins & forgetting which side to put the glasses!

Bella8 · 04/11/2017 20:28

Growing up me and my family always had a Chinese take away every Christmas Eve and this is a tradition carried through to my own family. It just isn't Christmas without my complimentary Chinese calendar!!

ggjacks · 04/11/2017 20:46

We have a really special Christmas eve. Go out for a lovely lunch, choose some sweets from a traditional sweet shop and go to the panto. Then home and get into new pjs!

juju3 · 04/11/2017 20:52

From when the children were very young - we've always used the same santa sack - even though its past its best

dragon60 · 04/11/2017 20:59

buying the children a tree decoration each year, which I write on. They'll have enough to fill a tree by the time they leave home and hopefully lots of memories to go with them

helsrodders · 04/11/2017 21:09

We put the tree and decorations up, to the sound of Christmas songs, first Sunday in December.

saltedcaramelhotchoc · 04/11/2017 21:12

There are so many!
Making Nigella gingerbread muffins on the day the tree goes up...
Making advent biscuits together.
Making a Yule log.
Mulling Apple juice (for all) and wine (for me!).
Fenwick’s window in Newcastle, followed by festive hot chocolate in Costa.
I love Christmas.
