Christmas is coming (FAST!) - and the team at Lidl would love to hear all about your family Christmas moments - perhaps from your own childhood or memories you are creating with and for your own children?

Are you a super-organised shopper, a festive fashionista in your Christmas jumper, or more of a last-minute panicker? Do you do ‘stir-up Sunday’ to create your perfect Christmas pudding or cake? Is there a tradition of choosing your tree that the whole family look forward to? What about when you were a child - are there older family traditions you recreate or look back on fondly which help get you in the community spirit?

Whatever your Christmas traditions are, Lidl would love to hear them!

Please post them on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note the winner will be sent 4 x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck

we always cook the turkey the night before and have turkey and stuffing rolls on christmas eve

pgwynne · 04/11/2017 14:14

Putting our tree up on the 12 December with my two children. We also add lots of chocolates to the trees. Each year my kids look foreword to their Advent calendar as it means the countdown has begun.

We go for a family picnic Christmas Day no matter the weather. If it is too bad we will eat it in the car at a viewpoint but we always try to find a picnic bench in the New Forest and huddle around a candle eating sandwiches and nibbles, just to get out and about

shellywkd · 04/11/2017 14:25

Christmas Eve we put on our Christmas pyjamas get into bed with a hot chocolate and watch a good Christmas film. Then in the mornings we open presents together and have a big Turkey lunch with family.

The Family Christmas Quiz - turn off the TV, switch off the tech and get those brain cells buzzing....!

hiddenmichelle · 04/11/2017 14:34

watching the grinch on Christmas Eve and getting the kids new PJs from the elves before they go to bed!

lizd31 · 04/11/2017 14:41

We have a set of nativity figures which has been passed down through the generations & every year since I was a child I've made a new crib for the figures

silviam · 04/11/2017 15:06

Our family enjoy ginger biscuits dipped in mulled wine on Christmas eve :-)

Cailin7 · 04/11/2017 15:11

we make mince pies and go to our local pantomime. I like to have everything bought and wrapped 2 weeks before Christmas and always watch the Grinch film while wrapping!

One christmas we had a megadrive sonic game we ended up with egg on toast for dinner as we was so intent on playing i forgot to cook dinner. It was the best christmas we have had.

ClementineWardrobe · 04/11/2017 15:17

Each year, at any point, we buy a tree decoration, usually on a holiday or a day out. We have now built up a large collection. We've had to buy a bigger tree. The day of tree decoration, we usually have fish and chips.DH puts the star on top each year

It's a lovely way to remember holidays.

itsali · 04/11/2017 15:20

Our tradition is a Christmas Eve stroll at night. We wrap up warm and cosy, grab a hot chocolate (or hot cider) and take a walk to see everyone's lights. It gets us in the spirit :)

pinkjjf27 · 04/11/2017 15:21

We always go to the kids church service on Christmas even then then we have a special pre- Christmas dinner. The kids have hot chocolate and marshmallows and they are allow to open a special Christmas eve presents usually Pjs or slippers or a DVD. The kids have stocking which they open in the kitchen, no one is allowed in the living room till they have had breakfast and every year i always go in first and pretend Santa hasn't been. its all traditional because my mum did it that way too.

RiSo · 04/11/2017 15:23

My favourite tradition is on Christmas morning, we get up really early and creep downstairs before the kids. We put the tree lights on and then seal the front room door shut with christmas wrapping paper, make a coffee and go back to bed. Then when the kids wake up they know they have to wait for each other and then they all run through the paper together into their very own grotto.

daisyduck123 · 04/11/2017 15:28

New PJ's and a Christmas Box each on Christmas Eve to keep the little ones happy and build up to the big day.

ChocolateCake1 · 04/11/2017 15:33

On Christmas Eve when everyone is really excited about Christmas the whole family gather in the living room around the fire and watch an old Christmas movie together. We have a buffet so there is something for everyone and its easy to prepare and just spend precious quality time together.

ThemisA · 04/11/2017 15:36

We are generally organised. Christmas eve is our main meal, freeing Christmas day for fun. Christmas day starts with stocking for all any time from 5am! Breakfast is light, then presents around the tree reserving one for Boxing day. The dog then gets a quick walk. We then play about with our gifts until lunch which is just bits and pieces and after lunch a long walk and then tv and/or games.

buckley1983 · 04/11/2017 16:12

Every year, we dedicate a day to Chrismas crafts - making gift tags for the family & special handmade gifts from LO to each grandparent. My son is always so proud of having made the gift & it's extra special for them to receive it too :)
Another vote for The Snowman too - it's not Christmas Eve without it!

tia3456 · 04/11/2017 16:13

Putting satsumas, chocolate and little toys in the kids stockings, a tradition my mum did with me, they love it

glenka · 04/11/2017 16:16

Always going out for a walk after lunch usually down to the beach if it's not to cold.

Spices001 · 04/11/2017 16:19

We make a big deal of the hanging up the stocking, leaving carrots milk & cookies every year

happysouls · 04/11/2017 16:38

We spend Christmas eve afternoon dancing round the kitchen with a great playlist and cooking up our Christmas curry from scratch! We have this to eat on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and it is amazing! Although we also eat in the evening so our actual Christmas dinner is cheese n pickle sandwich, salad and fruit same as always! It means we don't spend the afternoon feeling like we have eaten too much!

angiehoggett · 04/11/2017 16:42

our tradition on xmas eve is that we have a little party buffet of food, watch xmas films and we get to pull an early xmas cracker!

rozsargent · 04/11/2017 16:43

The tradition of Christmas to me means snow, tinsel,Holly, mistletoe,
glistening lights, the smell of pine, baubles, candles, Christmas carols,
Traditional films, the log fire, children laughing and playing
and everybody having a wonderful time
being Merry,drinking,eating,giving and receiving
also helping others less fortunate than our selves.

compy99 · 04/11/2017 16:47

we have warmed mince pies for breakfast on Christmas morning because it has been a family tradition for years, none of us like mince pies, so we try to make the smallest ones possible!
