For many, Autumn often symbolises a time to be with family, wrapping up, staying indoors with a good movie and indulging in our favourite comfort foods. The healthy living habits from summer can often take a backseat and, as a result, these cooler months can often put our health goals and weight loss journeys on pause. With that being said, Weight Watchers want you to share any funny autumn and winter healthy living pitfalls or triumphs you have gone through.

Zoe Griffiths, Head of Programme and Public Health at Weight Watchers, adds: “For many, the shift in season will bring with it a change in outlook. It’s a time when we start to notice that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is becoming be more difficult. In fact, working with psychologist Professor Geoff Beattie, we have identified that 18th September is the date when the seasonal shift begins to impact Brits’ lives. But just because the seasons have changed, doesn’t mean your outlook has to too. You are very much still in control of your own healthy lifestyle!”

"Weight Watchers has a plan to help avoid those pesky pitfalls all autumn long! Introducing… The Weight Watchers Guide to Owning Autumn. The Guide will be updated each week throughout the season to help counteract the seasonal shift and make it easier for people to take control of their weight loss journey and overcome the lifestyle challenges posed during the cooler season."

Zoe continues: “At Weight Watchers, we believe that you can say ‘yes’ to the things that you love and still enjoy a healthy lifestyle – any time of the year! That’s why with food, activity and wellbeing deeply engrained in our philosophy, we have designed the new Guide to Owning Autumn, which provides motivation, support and tips and tricks, so that you can enjoy the cooler seasons while showing autumn who is boss!”

Have you ever convinced yourself that colder weather calls for an extra glass of wine? Perhaps you’ve managed to fool everyone that you went to the gym by wandering around all day in your gym clothes, when actually they’re just so comfy? Or maybe you successfully managed to dodge all the chocolate that your kids collected at Halloween?

Whatever your healthy living pitfall or triumph, post them on the thread below. All MNers who comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky person will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Ooh any nice homemade soup... especially lentil and bacon that my Grandma used to make us!! Mulled wine is a must on a Winter's evening complete with some cheeky cake?!

freefan · 20/09/2017 21:42

Darker evening just make me want to wrap up and watch DVDs while comfort eating.. not good so this year I am really planning to make a point of getting out for walks as much as possible, might even join a gym this year.
Darker mornings are not so bad especially having a daylight alarm that starts to brightens one hour before my alarm.

lhlee62 · 20/09/2017 21:48

I just like to wrap up warm and drink gallons of hot chocolate with marshmallows, not the best idea really

feeona123 · 20/09/2017 22:28

When the wether is rubbish I tend not to want to go out for a walk. I'm also craving hot drinks on a night which I managed to give up over summer! I'm doing weight watchers and have cut down on my milk considerably so I don't want to go back to my old habits and not loose weight!

Marg2k8 · 20/09/2017 22:29

I like beef stew and dumplings in the cold weather.

Butterfly1975 · 20/09/2017 22:35

So much easier to keep the weight off in summer! Carbs can be much too tempting in the colder weather.

I try to keep my weight on track by eating my dinner earlier in the evening and trying to avoid stodgy puds!

Cailin7 · 20/09/2017 23:18

We enjoy out walking with the dog on the beach and autumn is a good time, not too hot for the dog and it makes us hungry for a slow cooked stew or pot of soup

Yaracuy · 20/09/2017 23:54

Autumn and Winter are memorable at home for spicy lattes and gingerbread thins.

pinkjjf27 · 21/09/2017 00:02

I am and always have been a healthy eater but since losing my husband I find my self eating for comfort and staying in more. As the evenings draw in i find my self looking for comfort foods bread, and biscuits are my down falls . I am trying to make small changes and motivate myself to exercise more. This last week I have been making sure I eat all the lovely autumn veg but its more of a struggle to look after my self now .

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 21/09/2017 00:39

Instead of hibernating on the settee I get out with the dog for a good walk. I always feel more energised and happy once I've been out in the fresh air.

Treaclespongeandcustard · 21/09/2017 05:11

I keep tracking and eat LOTS of free point soup

claza93 · 21/09/2017 06:27

We always tend to cook healthy but it does get a bit more tricky in the colder months. We now have meat free meals a few times a week and my other half can knock up a really healthy quorn curry! We also try to get out for walks more

churchilllounge · 21/09/2017 07:13

I find autumn is the time I start to loose weight. I go into hibernation mode. I prefer exercising in the cold weather and there's no ice creams and cream teas to tempt me.

SandysMam · 21/09/2017 07:38

It's only September and I am already feeling the winter stodge on my hips! Sticky toffee pudding is my downfall!

Alexandra87 · 21/09/2017 08:05

My kids have just got rather excited that I've deemed it porridge weather again so that's a healthy breakfast sorted. I'm going to be making big pans of soup for lunches and getting the slow cooker out for stews and casseroles. I think we eat more vegetables in the colder months.

phillie1 · 21/09/2017 10:27

as the nights set in, much harder to go for an evening run, so cuddled up on the sofa seems so much more appealing!

kateandme · 21/09/2017 10:31

i don't think its all bad because you crave more comforting but then often better for you filling foods.like winter veg stews or big casseroles which can be so much better than the picking or sandwhich or nibbling of the summer months.
and soup.always a winner in healthy terms.
also once you start on winter root veg youll never go back :)
I think the exercise things is tricky.that lovely first walk in the just begun sunshine is out the window often.but equally so it can be beautiful in your new winter coat and that crisp sun in the colder months.
I think yes the addes stodge and carbs.especially lovely pudding.can be a stopper but then you have to compare it to al the treats and ice cream and sugary bits in summer.

Abominus · 21/09/2017 11:58

I do tend to eat more as the weather gets colder so i just up my exercise to counteract it. Sometimes that's a struggle, i'm pretty lazy. I'm quite lucky though, my weight doesn't fluctuate much. For some reason i crave junk food when it's cold, hardly ever in the summer.

helly27 · 21/09/2017 13:04

We wrap up warm and still go down the beach making the most of the dry days with hot chocolate and marshmallows when we return

footdust · 21/09/2017 14:48

I tend to eat 'heavier' type meals in the autumn and winter - more casseroles and stews. But they don't have to be unhealthy you just need to be careful about how you cook them and what you add to the slow cooker!

Helsbells68 · 21/09/2017 14:57

The pitfalls to avoid are putting on weight with all the comfort food stews and casseroles. A triumph is if we can all get through to Spring without gets colds. :)

sophiefx · 21/09/2017 15:48

I tend to eat more better in winter as all I crave is homemade soup, stews and slow cooker meals. Packed with vegetables of course!

MillyVanilli222 · 21/09/2017 16:14

I always struggle in winter - summer's easy to eat lots of salads and fruit, but in the winter I crave stodge and carbs!

sm2012 · 21/09/2017 17:28

I love getting outdoors in the Autumn as it's normally quite warm still during the day. Then if I have been active I don't feel so guilty about having some chocolate or wine or both in the evening!

starlight36 · 21/09/2017 18:02

Soup is my healthy choice - I make it myself so in control of fat and salt quantities.

My downfall is my body wanting less fruit and more cake!
