For many, Autumn often symbolises a time to be with family, wrapping up, staying indoors with a good movie and indulging in our favourite comfort foods. The healthy living habits from summer can often take a backseat and, as a result, these cooler months can often put our health goals and weight loss journeys on pause. With that being said, Weight Watchers want you to share any funny autumn and winter healthy living pitfalls or triumphs you have gone through.

Zoe Griffiths, Head of Programme and Public Health at Weight Watchers, adds: “For many, the shift in season will bring with it a change in outlook. It’s a time when we start to notice that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is becoming be more difficult. In fact, working with psychologist Professor Geoff Beattie, we have identified that 18th September is the date when the seasonal shift begins to impact Brits’ lives. But just because the seasons have changed, doesn’t mean your outlook has to too. You are very much still in control of your own healthy lifestyle!”

"Weight Watchers has a plan to help avoid those pesky pitfalls all autumn long! Introducing… The Weight Watchers Guide to Owning Autumn. The Guide will be updated each week throughout the season to help counteract the seasonal shift and make it easier for people to take control of their weight loss journey and overcome the lifestyle challenges posed during the cooler season."

Zoe continues: “At Weight Watchers, we believe that you can say ‘yes’ to the things that you love and still enjoy a healthy lifestyle – any time of the year! That’s why with food, activity and wellbeing deeply engrained in our philosophy, we have designed the new Guide to Owning Autumn, which provides motivation, support and tips and tricks, so that you can enjoy the cooler seasons while showing autumn who is boss!”

Have you ever convinced yourself that colder weather calls for an extra glass of wine? Perhaps you’ve managed to fool everyone that you went to the gym by wandering around all day in your gym clothes, when actually they’re just so comfy? Or maybe you successfully managed to dodge all the chocolate that your kids collected at Halloween?

Whatever your healthy living pitfall or triumph, post them on the thread below. All MNers who comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky person will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

From Octember to Jananybody, I just gorge my-self every single day, hate the cold with a vengance, love the festive season to bit's, I walk my two little dog's millie & poppsie every day we walk for mile's that's why when I gorge myself, I don't put on weight, mind you I do like an half cow sandwich in the evening!

shroney · 03/10/2017 14:56

I love starbucks pumpkin spiced latte once the season starts but it isn't so good for my diet unfortunately.

essexchic · 03/10/2017 17:53

I love to wrap up with kids and go for a long walk in woods, finding things to collect and kicking a ball about, then come home have a nice bubbly bath and a scrummy stew, mmm.

liz1970 · 03/10/2017 19:28

some lovely home made vegetable soup with buttered french stick

meepmoop79 · 03/10/2017 20:35

Autumn is not so bad for me, as there are lots or running events i can do. Winter gets a bit trickier, as when its dark rainy andicy, my urge to go for a run disappears very quickly.

dadshere · 03/10/2017 21:57

Eat dried apricots, they are tasty and super nutritous!

Beeziekn33ze · 04/10/2017 15:01

If there's always home made soup in the house it adds to the welcoming warmth of coming in the door after a day at work or school!

daisyduke66 · 04/10/2017 16:07

Autumn and Winter spells - comfort food!!:) But - healthy soups and stews are also delicious and easy and equally comforting :) for colder weather.

KETCH · 04/10/2017 16:14

Triumph: Cooking a healthy stew in the slow cooker. Pitfalls: Following it up with a huge portion of apple pie with lashings of custard! 🙈

sb4278 · 04/10/2017 17:01

Slow cooker is my life saver at this time of year & vegetable soups

PugwallsSummer · 04/10/2017 21:28

Triumphs -

wanting to stay slim for the Christmas season really motivates me through the winter, followed by the inevitable January "health kick" 💪

Changing my wardrobe from summer to autumn reminds me to be good, buying new outfits spurs me on. 👖

Being "aware" that this is a tricky time of the year for dieting and trying a little harder. Joining the weight-loss chat board here on MN. 🤓

Pitfalls -

wearing looser, woolier clothes that can "hide a multitude of sins" 🤰

Lots of social events - birthdays, Halloween parties, bonfire get-togethers, Christmas, new year. All laden with alcohol and treat foods 😖

Craving warming, comforting carbs foods and drinks. ALL. THE. TIME 😭

Really not wanting to eat any more salad after a summer full of it 😴

I've just invested in a slow cooker so that I can plan meals better rather than end up snacking as soon as I get back with the kids from school, or after work. It also means less reliance on pre-packed meals and I feel better for using fresh ingredients.

Polyanthus · 05/10/2017 08:31

I'm definitely tempted by autumn comfort food - dumplings, steamed pudding, sausage and mash... I try to balance it with healthy stuff too. I love slow cooked red cabbage, mashed parsnip&celeraic, and big bowls of vegetable soup - just have to avoid the crusty rolls...

Changing over to my autumn clothes can be helpful as I can tell if anything is getting tight but it's definitely harder to find the motivation to do exerciseonce the mornings and evenings are dark.

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 05/10/2017 13:39

I hate the heat, and love the crispness and colours of time of year, so I tend to spend more time outside (and thus, exercising) than I do in summer. However, I'm also more prone to carb-y pub lunches / glasses of wine by a roaring fire!

ApocalypseNowt · 05/10/2017 17:56

Autumn/winter is all about SOUP!

Easy and cheap to make and nice and warming on those cold evenings. Just got to watch how much bread and butter I consume along with it!

CordeliaScott · 05/10/2017 19:19

I’m guilty of not eating as healthily in winter although I tell myself I’m just putting on a winter layer to keep warm. It is easily to eat healthily in the summer as I find that I want lighter meals when it’s hot but lots of warm stodgy meals when it’s colder

dannydog1 · 05/10/2017 21:49

The dog still needs walking even if it’s winter so no problem keeping exercise up. I do tend to drink lots of hot choc in the cold though...

KavvLar · 05/10/2017 22:09

Healthy soups and stews are my favourite in the autumn. And trying to stay away from the selection boxes and tinned sweets!

Vajazzler · 06/10/2017 05:22

Autumn means soup season for me! Nothing like a steaming bowl of comforting homemade soup to warm you from the inside

Lulabellx1 · 06/10/2017 12:50

Autumn is a nightmare for me. The chilly weather comes, the baggy jumpers come out and I no longer care about what's underneath. Then Spring comes round and I am usually a stone heavier! LOL.

AngelwingsPetlamb · 06/10/2017 13:09

In order not to succumb to temptation in the colder months I make full use of my slow cooker, which means that I control the ingredients in the dish and it will be ready for my evening meals as soon as I am ready to eat it.

FizzySmiles · 06/10/2017 14:37

Although my pitiful is definitely eating more in the winter, the foods seem to be heartier and healthier. Love a good butternut soup, beef stew. Will definitely be making weight watchers garlic chicken this winter, it's one of my favourite meals of theirs. I was introduced to it by my MIL

Candyperfumegirl · 06/10/2017 16:27

No I don't thing autumn really makes me think more unhealthy, I love autumn - roasting pumpkins and making hearty soups, love it! Wrapping up & going on long nature walks with the kids. Also a great time to do plenty of detox yoga before the winter sets in!

mrsminx · 06/10/2017 19:35

The slow cooker is just what you need in Autumn and Winter. Putting something easy and healthy on to cook while you are out all day means you have something ready when you need warming and cant be bothered to cook!
