Most Mumsnetters are probably familiar with the concept of the lunchbox police - those whose job it is at your child’s school to ensure pupil’s lunchboxes meet a certain standard. The fact is, whether you like them or not, if there are lunchbox police at your DC’s school, you have to make sure your snacks comply with their rules. This being the case, Soreen want to know about your go-to recipes for healthy snacking that get past the beady eyes of even the toughest lunchbox police officer.

Here’s what Soreen have to say about their Lunchbox Loaves: "We know how hard it is to find a snack for school lunchboxes that’s both nutritious and tasty but Soreen Lunchbox Loaves strike that perfect balance. Available in Malt and Banana flavours with a satisfyingly squidgy texture, Lunchbox Loaves are individually wrapped, low in fat, contain only 95 calories and provide a source of fibre.

If that wasn’t enough, Soreen Lunchbox Loaves are also suitable for vegetarians and meet guidelines set by the Children’s Food Trust for ‘School Foods Standards’ - so you should have no problem getting them past the lunchbox police."

To help other Mumsnetters branch out beyond bread sticks and yoghurt, tell us about your best lunch box recipes for the ultimate police-proof snacks. Post on the thread with your healthy alternatives to chocolate, crisps and cakes and you could be in with a chance of winning a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I mix it up with different types of fruit, both fresh and dried, cheese strings, yoghurt/ fromage frais in tubes, but my daughter's school is quite kind as some of the children are really picky and if they didn't pack some not so healthy food they're kids wouldn't be eating a lot.

SSCRASE123 · 22/07/2017 11:07

I will be the one to judge what I put in a lunchbox. If I think it's balanced and healthy then I'm not bothered what a dinner lady thinks. Typical healthy snacks are celery sticks, carrot batons etc. There's always a piece of fruit and only if they eat those are they then allowed the penguin or similar that's in as a treat.

Carrot sticks, apples, bananas and avocados sliced with Humus and olives

GuiltyFeet · 22/07/2017 11:45

Organix oat cereal bars go down well here, or veg sticks with a mini pot of dip.

cluckyhen · 22/07/2017 11:54

WE tend to send in houmous and carrot sticks - luckily my 2 like it

twinklenic · 22/07/2017 12:01

My youngest loves cucumber so i always pop a few slices of that in her lunch box , along with a ham butty and some fruit

andywedge · 22/07/2017 12:03

iut044 · 22/07/2017 12:37

Apples and carrot sticks always go down great .

beckyinman · 22/07/2017 13:01

Thin slices of banana sandwiched with peanut butter and with a drizzle of dark chocolate to hold it together. Also frittata bites - a few egg whites packed with veg and then baked in the oven to resemble a muffin

AR2012 · 22/07/2017 13:05

Cut some fruit up and put into a sealable container and a banana for break time. Small sandwiches. They pass the scrutiny.

kassza · 22/07/2017 13:14

We don't have lunch box police, thankfully! Parents are able to make decisions about their own child's healthy choices. Credit must also be given to children, they are very aware of good choices when it comes to food.

Annieg1234 · 22/07/2017 13:32

I put carrot and cucumber sticks in my little ones lunch boxes with a little pot of houmous for dipping, they love it and the dinner ladies are happy! Win Win!

MrsDramaQueen · 22/07/2017 13:36

I buy the fruit bags for the kids, and raisins. They also have a variety of other things including crisps or chocolate, but when mixed with the other things I consider it to be healthy as they are getting everything they need.

rachelmi · 22/07/2017 13:51

I send yogurts and cherry tomatoes with cheese chunks. Occasionally a home made flap jack ( very occasional indeed as I don't have much time!)

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 22/07/2017 13:59

DS likes homemade 'scotch pancakes'. Just flour, egg, milk and raisins but a nicely sweet and filling treat.

sarah861421 · 22/07/2017 14:11

rice cakes are very popular at the moment but that wont last for long. chocolate bars were so much easier

lilmiztam22 · 22/07/2017 14:19

Carrot sticks are always a winner! Along with fruit, yogurt and juice!

moosexxx · 22/07/2017 14:24

Bear yo-yo's are a realy favourite. My eldest loves any type of berry, so these are good to. For my youngest, a fruit puck normally does the trick.

shroney · 22/07/2017 14:51

cubes of cheese, some cherry tomatoes and chunks of cucumber with some crackers and sliced chicken always go down well.

glennamy · 22/07/2017 15:07

We have a daughter who likes fruit so that always goes into the lunchbox, varying it stops it becoming boring... a normal fat yoghurt as light yoghurts are full of sugar, a babybel, humous on a wholemeal wrap from Waitrose, they are delicious and the whole family loves them! Sometimes she has carrot sticks and coleslaw. She also has a carton of drink.

sammylea80 · 22/07/2017 15:08

I love to pack up the miniature fruit salad pots in the lunch boxes, it's a great way to add one of the five a day.

Itsnothingoriginal · 22/07/2017 15:11

DD has lots of little boxes filled with dried fruit and chunks of cheese etc. I find small portions of each thing keep her interest so she eats it all rather than getting bored. Really trying hard to cut down on sugar in our house and find healthy snacks so this thread is useful!

maryandbuzz1 · 22/07/2017 16:16

My son just loves rolled up ham with Primula 'squirty' cheese inside it! Sticks of caeprrot and celery are also amongst his favourites.

thesockgap · 22/07/2017 17:00

Breadsticks, chopped up melon & grape pots, slices of cherry tomato, all seem to get the OK at my boy's school.

alsproject · 22/07/2017 17:08

we always put fruit in the lunchbox as its a healthier option
