Most Mumsnetters are probably familiar with the concept of the lunchbox police - those whose job it is at your child’s school to ensure pupil’s lunchboxes meet a certain standard. The fact is, whether you like them or not, if there are lunchbox police at your DC’s school, you have to make sure your snacks comply with their rules. This being the case, Soreen want to know about your go-to recipes for healthy snacking that get past the beady eyes of even the toughest lunchbox police officer.

Here’s what Soreen have to say about their Lunchbox Loaves: "We know how hard it is to find a snack for school lunchboxes that’s both nutritious and tasty but Soreen Lunchbox Loaves strike that perfect balance. Available in Malt and Banana flavours with a satisfyingly squidgy texture, Lunchbox Loaves are individually wrapped, low in fat, contain only 95 calories and provide a source of fibre.

If that wasn’t enough, Soreen Lunchbox Loaves are also suitable for vegetarians and meet guidelines set by the Children’s Food Trust for ‘School Foods Standards’ - so you should have no problem getting them past the lunchbox police."

To help other Mumsnetters branch out beyond bread sticks and yoghurt, tell us about your best lunch box recipes for the ultimate police-proof snacks. Post on the thread with your healthy alternatives to chocolate, crisps and cakes and you could be in with a chance of winning a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I add a box of raisins to my daughter's lunchbox.

They pass the lunchbox police's checks and give my daughter that sweet kick she loves after her sandwiches :)

We are allowed fruit yoghurt crackers for break time snack. There is also a healthy snack shop which year 7 run and money goes back into school.

Mine like fruit kebabs and plain popcorn, and the lunch box police are happy with that.

little tupperware pots - one with strawberries or grapes and another with cherry toms, cucumber and olives. i always have a sweet treat in there too - the school my son is at has no objection to a small cake or biscuit bar so something like that goes in along with a ham wrap.

i love wraps because i don't really eat bread so there's only my son who wouldn't get through a loaf before it got stale. resealable packs of wraps keep really well.

my son is a lover of pork pies - not exactly healthy but he occasionally has one in his lunch and doesn't care that his friends think it's gross or weird.

Air popped popcorn, fruit, veg sticks (carrots and homegrown cucumber), cherry tomatoes (again, homegrown), rice crackers.

Cucumber sticks, Apple or orange, ham sandwich or wrap and a squeezy yoghurt

Bananas are easy to eat when peeled (easier than apples!). Little boxes of raisins pass muster, too.

Homemade cakes and biscuits (if challenged I can tell them the exact sugar/fat content of each one 😀)

My little ones love blueberries, carrot sticks and slices of cucumber as a healthy snack

mooota1514 · 03/08/2017 17:51

I send dates and sometimes they're the chocolate coated ones which still seem to pass. I do send fruit winders as a treat, still need to try making my own versions, as even though they pass I'm sure they could be healthier

Well, a wee individual bar of soreen (either original or banana) goes down well. Or homemade oat and banana cookies!!
