Let’s just spend a few moments dreaming about winning the lottery! How would you spend a big windfall? The National Lottery would love hear who you would share your winnings with if you scooped a life changing Lotto prize?

Here’s what The National Lottery have to say: “Amazingly there are over 4,600 National Lottery millionaires now in the UK winning £1 million or more. And what’s lovely to hear is that 95% of winners say they share their jackpot prize with family, charities and friends; with one third helping their children first.*

Real winner stories:

· Matt – I paid off Mums mortgage aged 28… it was the best feeling in the world
· Trish – I’ve set up investments so that years from now my son will be a millionaire just like me
· Natalie – before the win mum gave us so much help with the children, it was amazing to take her on a dream trip to New York to show her how much we love her and appreciated all her support.

That’s what they did, so now tell us: Who would win if you win? Who tops the list of those you would treat and why? "

…would it be giving your DH the ‘boys toy’ he has always wanted?

…or perhaps rewarding Mum & Dad for all their help and support over the years?

…how about an all-expenses paid girly holiday in the sun?

…or is there an individual or community project you’d love to support and help make their dream a reality?

…or how about you invest in a holiday house that everybody can enjoy for years to come?

Everyone who posts on this thread telling The National Lottery about who they would share their Lotto winnings and how will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

I would buy new houses for ourselves and our grown up children and treat us all to a holiday first. Then I would sit down and work out how I could help all my loved ones in the way they most need it.

BoneStripped · 04/07/2017 22:43

I'd buy the field next to our house, which already has planning permission for two houses, and see if it was possible to build an animal sanctuary and dog hotel. I'd anonymously give some of my less well off friends a surprise windfall, and invest in my favourite bar so that it doesn't have to concern itself with making a profit but can continue to be the welcoming, inclusive place it is. Then I'd buy the biggest, bestest gaming computer x 2, for me and my husband, totally gut and refurbish the house, install a tremendous sound system, build a massive professional standard kitchen, and stock the freezer with wagyu beef. A girl can dream :)

MrsLouisTomlinson · 04/07/2017 22:46

I'd make sure all family and friends had their mortgages paid off or property purchased for them. I'd jack in my job - sod being one of those people who wouldn't change! Buy 4x round the world tickets, hire a tutor and withdraw my kids from school and then sit back and relax and think about how I'd spend the rest of the cash.

glenka · 04/07/2017 22:48

I would divide the prize money up between various charities that mean a great deal to me.

snapple21 · 04/07/2017 22:50

I would help my brother get on the property ladder

MrsDramaQueen · 04/07/2017 22:55

I have often thought about what I would do if I won the lottery. I would share it with my kids and set them up for life, and my husband and me would use it to buy a house, and if I won enough I would leave work so that I could be at home with them all more. I work very long hours and spending more time at home would be amazing. I would also make sure that all my friends who have been there for me over the years had their debts paid off, and then I would give them some money to do whatever they wanted with. I have only a small handful of friends but they have been like family to me over the years.

modzy78 · 04/07/2017 22:58

I'm going under the assumption that it's a large amount. After making sure we own a home outright and have 2 dependable cars, I'd start helping out family and close friends. I'd take care of student loans for those who have them (especially those in the States) and then help with housing costs. I'd probably keep the amounts low enough so that they wouldn't have to pay taxes on them and do it over a few years to best help. I'd also take our families on holiday to Disney World, just because! And I'd make sure to set aside some money to help my daughter when she's older. With a massive win, I'd also set up some scholarship funds.

Snafflebrain · 04/07/2017 23:00

My list of people is a mix of friends and family. I like to imagine a giant rollover win so I can buy quite a few houses for people and pay off mortgages. I also have a few people on my list who I've lost touch with but if I win the lottery I would surprise them with anonymous cheques.

torthecatlady · 04/07/2017 23:04

I would love to be able to help my brother and his wife financially as they are soon to be parents to twins.

I'd also like to buy my dad his dream car, a Bentley. (He's always said that if he were to win the lottery he'd buy one and just look at it and polish it all day long).

A nice big family holiday would be lovely too as we all live across the country and it would bring us all together, even if just for a week or two.

Plus I'd love to be able to donate more money and my time to the Cat Protection League where my two rescue cats are from.

KittyKat88 · 04/07/2017 23:05

If I won an obscene amount, I've dreamt of buying up vast swathes of land in Borneo (to protect the orangutans) or in Africa to try and protect so many of our endangered species like elephants and rhinos. I'd get my girls involved in protecting our planet and not destroying it. If I only won enough to survive comfortably on, then probably downsize to rescuing loads of cats!

prwilson · 04/07/2017 23:12

I would share my winnings with immediate family, extended family and friends.

Ferryfairy · 04/07/2017 23:18

It's all planned. Enough for us to live well, make sure our close family are secure, and close friends are treated. Then a bit for charities close to our hearts. With what we keep for us we'll treat random strangers in need. Joy!

mandes1 · 04/07/2017 23:20

Pay for my dad to have private medical treatment (he has cancer)
Pay for my children and my nieces / nephews to go to private school
Pay off my mortgage
Buy a house for my brothers / dad / good friends / my family
Open up a school in Jamaica / Africa (where our family are from)
Go to New York, stay in a top hotel and shop till we drop!
Open up a therapy room / start a business
Have enough money to write a novel without the need for 'real work'
I could go on!

MycatsaPirate · 04/07/2017 23:23

I would buy some land with a house in the country and then turn the land into a wildlife and animal rescue centre.

Would I help out family? Honestly don't know, one of my sisters maybe but the others are never there for me when the shit hits the fan (when we were made homeless, struggled to find money for food for months) so probably not.

I do however have some amazing friends who I would do anything for and they would be the ones I would help out.

liz1970 · 04/07/2017 23:29

If i was to win big, i would help all of my children to get on the property market. I would also take all my family on holiday :)

voyager50 · 04/07/2017 23:33

There would be so many I would help from wildlife and environmental charities to so family members and friends.

I would take my friends and all their children on safari, pay off both my sisters' and my best friend's mortgages and give lots of time and money to animal charities.

BreconBeBuggered · 04/07/2017 23:46

Pay off mortgages for our siblings, then set up a separate 'relatives' account for the wider family to use, whatever they need. It's a gigantic win, yes? A further lump sum to the ILs, who may or may not want to leave their house. Since I don't need it, I'll give our current home to someone in need who's been on the waiting list for affordable housing for years. The DC and I are now rich beyond our wildest imaginings. DH will give up work, and wherever we go I'll have to build him a massive bloody great outbuilding so that his hobby can a) be contained outside my beautiful new home, and b) will get him out of the house most days.

SaltySeaBird · 04/07/2017 23:51

I'd buy a new house and lots of lovely things to go inside it that I lust after but can't afford and would travel more, a lot more.

I'd buy something to enable me to set up my own business.

I'd clear the debt of close friends and family including mortgages.

I'd pay to install Changing Places facilities in a lot of places. I am lucky that I don't need to use them but I do know people who do need them for their children and it makes me sad they have to change them on dirty toilet floors.

Of course it would all depend on how much I won!

Funkyferret · 04/07/2017 23:53

We'd relocate to the other end of the country where my mum lives and we love (but are tied here for work). I'd buy her any house she wanted there and one for us. Then I'd put some Trust Funds in place, and I know it's a terrible cliche but I'd probably start an animal sanctuary.

glennamy · 04/07/2017 23:55

I would not want publicity and I would keep quiet about it for a few months if I won a massive amount of money... Then after a number of wins elsewhere for others I would then give money to close family and friends, I would also help out certain charities that I know need money - not the ones that have millions in fund management or that take so much from money given to them!

compy99 · 05/07/2017 00:02

we have this conversation every week! we would buy bungalow, sort the family out and sort out several charities that we support.

MSHGW · 05/07/2017 00:12

It would depend how much, but I would like to help all of my family, and invest some in a business so I would have something to pass on.

WhosTakingDeHorseToFrance · 05/07/2017 00:16

After doing all the sensible stuff like paying off all the family mortgages I think I'd have a massive family party, pay for all of my family and in laws to meet up and hang out.

andywedge · 05/07/2017 00:18

Depends on how much I won. But my wife and 2 kids would get a split 4 ways.
If I won a lot then my parents, brother, sisters, wifes brother and parents.
If I won a stupid amount I'd invest in property or something and a great chunk would go to charities.

avamiah · 05/07/2017 00:49

I often get lucky with 3 numbers and win £25 and to be honest that makes my day.haha
However if I won a life changing amount then I would buy the house that I have been renting for 6 years and put a large amount away for my daughter so she could attend the Stage School she wants to go to when she is 10.
My mum lives with me,so she wouldn't need anything as she is well looked after but our family is from Liverpool and i was born there and grew up there and remember the Hillsborough Tragedy and how many lives were shattered and always thinking if I was Rich I would make a huge donation to all the families. So that's what I would do today or whenever my numbers come up.
