Let’s just spend a few moments dreaming about winning the lottery! How would you spend a big windfall? The National Lottery would love hear who you would share your winnings with if you scooped a life changing Lotto prize?

Here’s what The National Lottery have to say: “Amazingly there are over 4,600 National Lottery millionaires now in the UK winning £1 million or more. And what’s lovely to hear is that 95% of winners say they share their jackpot prize with family, charities and friends; with one third helping their children first.*

Real winner stories:

· Matt – I paid off Mums mortgage aged 28… it was the best feeling in the world
· Trish – I’ve set up investments so that years from now my son will be a millionaire just like me
· Natalie – before the win mum gave us so much help with the children, it was amazing to take her on a dream trip to New York to show her how much we love her and appreciated all her support.

That’s what they did, so now tell us: Who would win if you win? Who tops the list of those you would treat and why? "

…would it be giving your DH the ‘boys toy’ he has always wanted?

…or perhaps rewarding Mum & Dad for all their help and support over the years?

…how about an all-expenses paid girly holiday in the sun?

…or is there an individual or community project you’d love to support and help make their dream a reality?

…or how about you invest in a holiday house that everybody can enjoy for years to come?

Everyone who posts on this thread telling The National Lottery about who they would share their Lotto winnings and how will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

Love to clear my sisters mortgages, treat everyone to the most amazing family holiday in florida and enjoying treating them! I would also love to be in a position to donate to causes close to my heart.

nicetoseeyoutoseeyounice · 04/07/2017 20:29

I would pay for my parents house to be finished (since they were fleeced by their builders, job half done and left thousands out of pockets. Then I would pay off their mortgage (they had paid it off but took out a 2nd mortgage on it for the building work which was never completed!).

I would book a luxury holiday and bring my nieces and nephews along with their parents. DH family have all gone out of their way to accept my ds as one of their own and I'm so grateful. Now he has a huge family (my siblings don't have any children so ds cousins are all from DH side of the family). My son was 2.5 when I met my now DH.

I would pay for my lovely nanna to have carers come to her home regularly as she's terrified she's going to end up in a home now she's getting old and lives on her own away from any relatives. We write to each other regularly as she's about 4 hour drive from us.

I would then buy myself a dishwasher and a decent sized washing machine...and a house to store them in. We are stuck renting for the time being. Ah wouldn't it be lovely to have some spare pennies. DH has just taken a huge pay cut at work and we only have one income as I'm home with the baby.

rosettafaery · 04/07/2017 20:29

Oo! I would splurge on a new car and a big all inclusive holiday. But then I would get a landscape gardener to sort my garden and go on a cookery course to set myself up as a baker and kit out my kitchen to bake from home as a new career venture!

Tonkatol · 04/07/2017 20:31

Obviously it depends on how much i actually won but, I would spend it in the following ways

Pay off mortgage and any debts and purchase a bungalow to live in.

Make sure my 4 children were financially secure - probably by purchasing property for each of them and giving them a monthly allowance until they each reach the age of 25

Make sure my brother has his own property and give my sister in Canada and her two adult children some money.

Pay for the in-laws to visit Australia and New Zealand over a period of time (they have children in each country).

Give my sister-in-law and my brother-in-law a lump sum each (although whatever I give my sister-in-law wouldn't be enough).

Donate to two charities close to my heart - Streetkatz Rescue and Irish Retriever Rescue. Both are small charities and all donations would be well used - I would like to give both charities a lump sum donation and a standing order for a monthly donation.

After all that, if there is any left, I would give friends treats and pay for special things for them.

RumbleRoar · 04/07/2017 20:32

I would clear ourselves and my brothers mortgage and give my parents a lump sum, set up trust funds for our children and my niece and nephew. Take my family on a amazing holiday and pay for my friends to finally get married.
I would also like to invest some in my children's school

allthingsred · 04/07/2017 20:34

I'd buy a house & make sure my brothers & sister each had enough to have somewhere to live also.
After that I would donate to a charity. I have had the same charity in mind since I was 14 & received help from it.
Then I would finally after 13 yr get my dream wedding!! I would pay for all my friends & family to get together on a plane have a great holiday & wedding celebration at the same time.

smileyfacechocolatebutton · 04/07/2017 20:38

I have my own direct debit, I'm part of a syndicate in work and I can't go in a shop without buying at least one scratchcard, so I've spent far too much time thinking about this!

I'm a single mum who can't afford my own home, so buying a house would be top of the list, then giving my parents, who have helped and supported me so much, half so they could finally retire. I'd book a fabulous holiday in Europe (so not too long a flight) for all the family and new cars for everyone and put money in trust for my DC, nieces and nephews for when they reach 18. I'd give a chunk to cancer research and some local charities. This is all obviously assuming I'd hit a big jackpot! If I won £10000 I'd take everyone on a little holiday and clear my credit cards!

Mrsfluff · 04/07/2017 20:48

I would book a fantastic holiday for my immediate family. I would then hope to pay off their mortgages. I would also like to help my best friend and my god children.

Then I'd buy that plot of land and build my dream home!!!

TheOnlyPurpleLlama · 04/07/2017 20:59

Depends on how much we win... but would certainly help DH's family pay off debts / whisk them away on a luxury holiday / give them money to build a house (and enough to renovate their current house so they could rent it out and not have to worry about pensions in the future).

I'd pay Uni fees and monthly allowance for my cousin. And set aside a lump sum for a house deposit. Aunt/Uncle - not sure. Possibly a lump sum towards a new house but I'm not sure they'd want it (very modest!)

I have a few entrepreneurial friends who would get investments.

And DH would get his Koenigsegg and modified RS6. Plus the house move to Scotland.

And I'd set up a charity to buy a portfolio of houses and rent them out but save 50% for the tenants so that at the end of their lease they get a lump sum returned... to help JAM families get their foot on the property ladder.

Pipstarz41 · 04/07/2017 21:10

This is the constant daydream!

I would give money to direct family to clear mortgages and pay for a luxurious holiday.

I would invest money for my children to provide for them across their lifetimes, and for my niece.

I would love to support some pet animal shelters as I think they do great work, and take a few dogs off their hands if I won enough that I didn't have to work and could look after the dogs!

annarack99 · 04/07/2017 21:39

Taking the pressure off my family and parents so we can all spend our time doing the things we love and spend less time on admin and chores.

GriseldaChop · 04/07/2017 21:40

Love this day dream! I'd start by paying our mortgage off and doing some home improvements, an extra extension over the garage and the same for our lovely neighbours if they'd like it. I'd get my mum a conservatory and do whatever she wanted to do her house up (she wouldn't want to move!). We'd make sure PIL and SIL were comfortable too, paying off their mortgages, cars etc and getting spoilt. Smile
I'd love to buy a holiday home somewhere hot, big enough for lots of us to go out whenever we wanted and I'd make sure friends got to use it too.
We'd make sure our closest friends and family got something nice and would make sure there were lots of treats.
I'm a languages teacher and I'd love to create a fund in my school to send the students abroad in visits to practice their language, anonymously tho!
If it was mega bucks we won I'd like a bigger house, but not too massive! I'd also travel loads and go first class and stay in amazing hotels, I'd love my son to see the world. Of course I'd set up trust funds for my DS and would also donate money to the hospital and ward that looked my dad.
Fingers crossed! Smile

Exhaustedoldbag · 04/07/2017 22:08

This is my favourite question, I have an ongoing game with a work colleague planning our amazing winnings - it changes each week dependent upon the jackpot!

However, for this I am assuming this is a £1m win?

  1. First and foremost I'd have to buy the Star Wars Lego Death Star and Millenium Falcon - because I always told my oldest that if I ever won the lottery I'd tell him by presenting him with these most coveted of Lego sets.
  1. I'd ensure my boys were secure (am a single Mum) so I'd buy a house and tuck away some savings.
  1. My youngest is Autistic (currently in a battle to get him into a school where he can actually learn) so I'd get him the help he needs.
  1. I work full time for a military charity and I am project managing
a project which is going to take a long time to finish due to budget constraints, but it's hugely important - so I'd pay for it.
  1. If I had any money left, I'd have my legs lasered so I never have to shave my legs again - just bliss - and take my boys away somewhere maybe to DisneyWorld or to do the Inca Trail in Peru.

Lottery winnings spent!

georgedawes · 04/07/2017 22:11

I too have thought about this far too many times! I'd share it with my close family but actually wouldn't tell anyone else. I'd like to travel and have a nice car, but other than that would like to help those closest to me. Would want to keep it private though.

del2929 · 04/07/2017 22:13

id make all the family mortgage free
then buy a big house
next id open a business of some sort

and finally id give up my job and do sfa!

towser44 · 04/07/2017 22:13

I always think about this if I were lucky enough to win the Thunderball. It would be enough to clear our mortgage, £100,000 split between 2 sets of parents and then the remainder split 3 ways between my immediate family (partner and daughter). Oh to be so lucky!

wannabestressfree · 04/07/2017 22:14

I have to drive my son to his dads and collect him on a regular basis and this Is my pass the time daydream....
I wouldn't tell anyone bar my partner.
I would help my youngest brother so his partner could live near her family. They live in a horrible place and she is lonely. I would do anything to fix it. I wouldn't give a bean to my sister (wealthy in her own right) or brother (tight) as they could help him and chose not to.
I also would pay off all the debt I have accrued from general living and living with a terminal illness. I would pay off the mother who sued me for paying a builder to half build a disabled toilet and bathroom for me.
I would do a copy of the American programme where the man 'rights' a lot of 'wrongs' and help people who need it. Friends, people who are struggling, open a well run hmo that's reasonable, hire my nurses privately and take care of them.
I would run a little bookshop and wallow in dusty first editions...
And lastly hire drew pritchard aka the salvage hunter for the week to peruse bits of the uk with my partner as we both love his programme....
I do need to win more than £25 though (biggest win)

moosexxx · 04/07/2017 22:17

I would share some with my family.
But the first thing i would do is:

  1. Payoff the mortgage
  2. book a family holiday

And then think things through...

beeelaine · 04/07/2017 22:23

Well if i was lucky enough to win a big amount, i think i would sort out the finances so there was no worries for the future, pay for some operations for kids secretly, give some money to the people who i know really need it, and treat myself and my family to some wonderful treats!

raspberryblush23 · 04/07/2017 22:28

Ok: pay off mortgage, sell house cheaply and buy another. Give family money, make sure my parents are comfortable.

Investments etc so we have enough to be comfortable for the rest of our lives.

Invest in my local community: not exactly sure of the finer details but invest in a decent community space or incest in lots of free extra curricular activities/trips for local kids.

Go on an extended holiday.

Buy lots of clothes.

FawnDrench · 04/07/2017 22:34

Just lovely spacious new houses and a new car each for immediate family and I'd set up all the grandchildren for life.

After that DH and I would have what's left, and hopefully have enough to move to a warmer climate and live there very comfortably, while still keeping some sort of `U.K. residence.

And I'd get myself a lovely white (but not too white) smile.

lynsmagoo · 04/07/2017 22:35

I always dream about what I'd do if I won the lotto! First thing I'd do is treat my parents. My mum has cancer and is getting chemo and my dad isn't well and never stops all day. I'd book them a spa weekend. I'd then treat them and my own family to new cars. In the long term I would love to set up my own business.

MimiJoy · 04/07/2017 22:37

As me and my husband have no children and no parents left, I'd make sure our (many) nephews and nieces were well looked after as many of them have young children. We'd pay off our mortgage and move near the sea, buy a new car, have a wonderful holiday, buy a holiday home and give a good chunk to charities close to our hearts ...

Roraima · 04/07/2017 22:38

I've always wanted to give a patron, I 'd certainly give some money to the British Museum. I 've enjoyed many times going in for free and frequently go to talks and guided tours around the museum. If I won the lottery I'd give a some to it.

beckyinman · 04/07/2017 22:40

I would buy myself a house (the renter's pipedream!) - a big family holiday somewhere like Barbados, put some aside for college fees, a charity donation and if I had enough a share in a racehorse!
