Let’s just spend a few moments dreaming about winning the lottery! How would you spend a big windfall? The National Lottery would love hear who you would share your winnings with if you scooped a life changing Lotto prize?

Here’s what The National Lottery have to say: “Amazingly there are over 4,600 National Lottery millionaires now in the UK winning £1 million or more. And what’s lovely to hear is that 95% of winners say they share their jackpot prize with family, charities and friends; with one third helping their children first.*

Real winner stories:

· Matt – I paid off Mums mortgage aged 28… it was the best feeling in the world
· Trish – I’ve set up investments so that years from now my son will be a millionaire just like me
· Natalie – before the win mum gave us so much help with the children, it was amazing to take her on a dream trip to New York to show her how much we love her and appreciated all her support.

That’s what they did, so now tell us: Who would win if you win? Who tops the list of those you would treat and why? "

…would it be giving your DH the ‘boys toy’ he has always wanted?

…or perhaps rewarding Mum & Dad for all their help and support over the years?

…how about an all-expenses paid girly holiday in the sun?

…or is there an individual or community project you’d love to support and help make their dream a reality?

…or how about you invest in a holiday house that everybody can enjoy for years to come?

Everyone who posts on this thread telling The National Lottery about who they would share their Lotto winnings and how will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

I'd fund a trust to ensure that my two disabled DC's will always have a roof over their heads and carers in the time when I'm too old can't be there.

I'd set aside some spending money for all three DC - a smallish lump to blow at 18, another chunk at 21 then money for a big investment i.e. house/ business at 25.

I'd quite like a car that's not the very basic, good practical choice. Something that moves a bit when you put your foot down. Not so smart that I'd be scared leaving it in a supermarket carpark just something that feels nice to open the door and get into. This might be a bit of a luxury though.

I'd like to use a big chunk of the pot to set up a fund for people who want to start their own business but are stuck in the benefits trap and possibly don't have evidence that they have the skills to do it i.e. aren't educated to a level they can produce a swishy business plan to raise investment conventionally.

I've been there and the risks are so high, yet it's so demoralising not to be able to risk trying. The success stories would pay the investment back (at cost and affordability) to keep the fund going as long as possible.

junglie · 04/07/2017 16:36

I suppose a small win would go on bills, a holiday, upgrade the car.
Over 50k I'd pay some mortgage off and make life comfortable for my family and friends.
A huge win would mean I could be very generous. I'd love to donate to local cub and brownie groups. Maybe by providing minibuses and building a nice community hall that anyone could use. I'd like to pay for groups to run so people in the community would benefit.
I'd spend lots on planting bulbs all around our town so it looks fabulous every year. I'd like to refurb the local park with new equipment for the kids and that awesome fitness equipment for the adults.
I'd quite like a beach hut somewhere nice that I could go and read my books in and have a cup of tea.
So many things that I'd enjoy but most of all would just be peace of mind of no mortgage!

Spirael · 04/07/2017 16:41

Normal boring stuff first... Pay off the mortgage, help out family, etc.

If the win is enough, I'd quit my day job and play at being an author.

I'd also buy a villa out in Florida and spend many holidays there, letting friends and family borrow it for their holidays too. Grin

paddypants13 · 04/07/2017 16:44

Obviously, the boring suff like pay off debts.

I'd pay off my fil's mortgage and have my parents' house done up.

I'd pay off sil and my two best friends' mortgages and buy a house for my cousin who's a widow and despite looking after some of the most vulnerable members of society is paid a pittance.

I'd put some money in trust for my dd, ds, dnephew and my goddaughter.

We'd go on a long family holiday.

We'd buy a house.

I'd buy dh his much wanted Pontiac Firebird.

We'd set up a business, either a campsite or a kennels/cattery. This would give people in the area meaningful jobs. We'd pay a decent wage, give loads of training and try and promote staff rather than bringing in managers.

I would also give a donation to various charities. I'm not entirely sure which ones because there are so many good causes but definitely Wolfram Syndrome, Dogs' Trust, Yorkshire Cat Rescue, Cancer Research and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

I'd have given it all away in a week! Grin

paddypants13 · 04/07/2017 16:47

Oh and I'd learn to ride a horse and play the piano, although not necessarily at the same time!

ILikeBigBumpsAndICannotLie · 04/07/2017 17:10

I would start my business, deal with the mortgage, set up my child for her future as I worry about that, fill the garden with flowering plants, organise a clan gathering for family, a party for friends, and give a wedge to two small local charities whose work I admire greatly. Life is generally good but it would be lovely to have the edge taken off of life's money worries

ButterflyOfFreedom · 04/07/2017 17:17

I would pay back the money I owe my mum, the money I owe my brother, and the money I owe the Student Loan Company!

I'd also pay off my mortgage, do some home improvements (or maybe move house) and get a new car.

I would treat all my immediate family and very close friends - though wouldn't tell them I'd won the lottery!

I'd also take the DC to Florida Smile

littlemouse15 · 04/07/2017 17:26

Start up the sewing business I really want. Pay back my family for years of helping me out

gamerwidow · 04/07/2017 17:38

I'd spread it out amongst my parents and siblings so we've all got enough to have a home even if we don't end up super rich.

sauvblanc21 · 04/07/2017 17:38

Oooooooooo....

  1. Pay off the mortgages for both immediate families.
  2. Give a large proportion to various charities.
  3. Take family and friends on a BIIIIIIG holiday!

Now when is this win coming in? ;)

sharond101 · 04/07/2017 18:02

I'd like after my children and the other children in my family. They are the next generation and I'd like to give them a great standard of living. I'd make sure my parents were comfortable too and of course I'd never let my husband go to work again.

AngelwingsPetlamb · 04/07/2017 18:13

What a lovely thread to be a part of.
If I won the Lottery I would share it but how much would depend on how much I won.
If I won loads I would help my mum out first because she is only on a state pension and misses out on so much because of this, and I know she would love to be able to go on holiday and shopping trips and have a newer car.
Next I would move house with my DOH and fulfil all his wishes for 'big boys toys and man sheds etc.
I would definitely gve to charities but it would be very hard to choose just a few so I would have to spend some time thinking this through so I was happy with my choices. My initial thoughts are Homeless and Animal charities.
It would be nice to be able to have the money to spend on little luxuries on a regular basis, so beauty and hair treatments and Spa Days would be on the list and og course a lovely, luxury holiday for me and all my girl friends too.
Dreaming on ..........

Ogochukwu27 · 04/07/2017 18:14

I would help my family by investing in their business, as I believe to teach how to fish and not give a fish daily.
Then I would open a trust fund for my children to be accessible when they are 30. Plus I would invest heavily in their future by putting them in great schools .
I would go back to an Ivy League school like Harvard or Cambridge and do my masters in pharmacy and public health, then my husband and I would manage a pharmaceutical plant. My husband would brush up his managerial skills in an Ivy League school of his choice and then as our cooperate social responsibilities would be helping people with funds to complete their education as I am in the same predicament, I know how it feels not being able to do what you know how to because of funds. Then we would also help the girl child both in the UK and in my country of origin Nigeria. Because my people perish due to lack of knowledge.
Finally, I would pay my tithe

ohlittlepea · 04/07/2017 18:15

I plan to be a fairy godmother if I won. Id love to speak to people, family, friends and some strangers about their wishes and to make them come true. How awesome that would feel. Id travel with the family too. We have a dream of driving an ice cream van across europe :)

mrsBeverleygoldberg · 04/07/2017 18:22

Set up a college fund for my dcs.
Take them to Florida and Japan.
Buy a house with a garden big enough for a vegetable patch and a ride on steam engine for ds1.
Ds2 will have his own wii.
Charity donations to Cancer Research, PDSA and charity that makes wishes come true for terminally ill children. And water aid.

mrsBeverleygoldberg · 04/07/2017 18:23

I forgot, I'm paying a good friend's mortgage off!!

Pinkiepromisex · 04/07/2017 18:46

I would make sure my children and mum were taken care of. I often worry how the next generation will ever get on the property ladder so it would be lovely to give them a good start. Friends and favourite charities would benefit and I would love to be able to treat friends to a fabulous holiday in a place none of us would ever get to under our own steam......Bali, New Zealand, Canada ahhhh can't wait, just need to actually buy a ticket!

flowersfromheaven · 04/07/2017 19:06

After gathering my thoughts, I would buy both my children A lovely home of their choice, and then I would gave a big chunk of it to Cancer research as everybody knows or as someone in their family with this illness and it would be great for them to find a cure.

OhHolyFuck · 04/07/2017 19:15

I'd pay my 3 best friends mortgages off and buy 1 other close friend her own house

I'd donate some to the women's unit and children's wards at my local hospital as without them DS1, ds2 and myself would all no longer be here

I'd give some to a charity I'm involved with

I'd get a 1:1 support assistant in school for ds2

Then I'd buy my own house and go to Disney!

danigrace · 04/07/2017 19:35

I'd buy our own home, put money aside for children, and pay off parents and sisters mortgage

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 04/07/2017 20:05

The first thing I would do is fly my whole family over for an extended visit and make it the most amazing experience.

Then I will pay of the mortgage and make sure all our families have enough.

Work my month notice at work, start up a small business and give most of the proceeds to a charity. Also help someone local giving them employment.

I would love to live on a farm and have lots of pets.

Build my husband his own place for his hobby.

And lots of little things. These are the main ones.

CaptainBrickbeard · 04/07/2017 20:17

Pay off all of my family's mortgages/debt. Put money in savings for all the children's future. Donate money to my children's school for play facilities/ICT/whatever would benefit them the most. Hmmm... I don't know what else. I'd share some out with my colleagues as well. Make sure my granny has all the adaptations necessary for her house and all the carers she needs definitely. It would be so lovely to take away people's worries and give them that security.

Signoritawhocansway · 04/07/2017 20:21

I would create a sheltered housing scheme for disadvantaged adults in our church community. My brother has just lost his PIP assessment. It would be great to be able to help him and others constructively.

I would obvs pay off our mortgage too, and charities in line for donations include the NICU that saved my 27 weeker, RNLI as they're true heroes and my Dad's care home resident trips fund. All anonymously.

Cambam2010 · 04/07/2017 20:24

If I won the jackpot I'd give my sister enough for her to be completely comfortable for life but not so much that she goes spending silly. I'd set up education funds for my son,my 2 step sons and my niece and nephew. I'd give my parents enough to be more than comfortable. For myself and my partner I'd buy us a dream house to get us out of the rent trap. He loves cars so he could have as many fun, practical, fast, classic vehicles that he wished. I'd buy a massive motor home and a villa somewhere hot. I'd invest wisely and donate to the charities close to my heart. I'd support local activities and volunteer my time. I'd 100% give up work a shame the environment there is toxic.

HamletsSister · 04/07/2017 20:26

I would set up a fund to help with education (University or College) costs for local children. I would also help to fund school trips and travel abroad.

I would support my children to buy a flat / house and help out my sisters (parents dead) and my stepmother.

I love my job (teacher) so would carry on doing that but would be able to support the school with books, equipment etc (all done anonymously or with only a few people knowing)
