Many of us look back longingly at our Mums’ home cooking but, with full-time jobs and busy lifestyles not to mention that take-away restaurant just around the corner it can be hard to get your own cooking up to her standards. That’s why Tefal want to know about the best things your Mum used to make for you on weeknights - that you wish you had the skills, confidence and time to cook for your family.

Here’s what Tefal have to say: ‘You don’t need to be a masterchef to achieve delicious meals in no time! Tefal have innovated again, and now give you Cook4Me.

Cook4Me is a one-pot digital cooker, ideal for mums looking to make fast and fresh meals. It is easy to use and intuitive: Cook4Me comes with 50 built-in recipes, and features a digital screen with guided cooking steps. Cook4Me cooks under pressure, which means you will save a lot of time. For example, after browning and pre-heating, it cooks a Chicken Tikka Masala in 3 minutes, a Thai Green Chicken curry in 4 minutes and a Risotto in 9 minutes (and no need to stir!)… It is the ideal all-in-one cooker, with up to 6 cooking manual modes: not only does it pressure cook, but it also steams, browns, simmers, gentle-cooks and automatically keeps your food warm. Its dishwasher-safe bowl can feed 6 people, perfect for the whole family or for batch-cooking.

Cook4Me comes in a standard version, with 50 built-in recipes, and in a Connected version, that works with My Cook4Me app, giving access to over 100 recipes.

You can use this link to purchase a Cook4Me of your own, at a fantastic 50% off retail price.’

Whether it’s a signature risotto, a flavoursome curry or the classic chili con carne, post on the thread below your Mum’s best dishes that you wish you could replicate. Everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will be randomly selected to win a Cook4Me.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

My dad was the cook in our house - and I see a PP mentioned about the post war mince recipes - those were definitely his signatures! They are economical and keep well too, and can be packed with veggies. My dad would put any veg going into his sauces with mince.

My favourite was always spaghetti bolognese - I cook it for my own children now. My dad is alive and well but not well enough to do much these days. Its lovely to pop over to my parents on the weekend and cook them meals - I get a bit of a sense of things coming full circle. Surprise to find posting this has brought a but of a tear to my eye!

How disappointing to see such a sexist post on Mumsnet

My Mum's cooking left a lot to be desired but her Welsh cakes were delicious.

soselfopinionated · 20/05/2017 12:18

My mum was a dreadful cook (but amazing mum and I miss her dreadfully!). The best thing she ever 'cooked' was the day she put my son's dirty white socks onto boil without me knowing..... and then went out! We came back to a smoke filled house and a burnt out saucepan with crispy bits of ash in the bottom! My son then guilt tripped her by telling her they were 'his favourite pair of socks ever!' Grin
We grew up on spam and deep fried chips - so glad I take after my dad in this respect who was a chef!

Pinktilgate · 20/05/2017 12:37

My mum makes theeeee best ever traditional Irish stew! It's amazing! No matter how hard I try, I can never get it to taste as good as hers! xo

TwoMs · 20/05/2017 13:50

Definitely gamon with cauliflower cheese and mixed veg Grin
My mum freely admits to not being great in the kitchen but this dish is hands down my favourite from my childhood

sofieellis · 20/05/2017 13:50

There was never very much money when we were kids, but Mum always managed to make delicious meals. often using up leftovers. My favourite was Irish Stew, made with chunks of corned beef. I'm veggie nowadays, but I still make it, but now I use Quorn chunks.

AutumnElla · 20/05/2017 15:12

Always homemade British meals, my favourite was cornedbeef hotpot x

SuzCG · 20/05/2017 15:15

The best dish my Mum ever cooked for us was her 'cottage pie' - no one can make it quite like her!

sootyo · 20/05/2017 15:17

Simple things were the best ,fond memories of Egg and chips (cooked in lard )

rhinosuze · 20/05/2017 18:12

My mum was a terrible cook, best thing she could actually make was baked potatoes (which were microwaved!) My dad on the other hand was great and made the best vegetable risottos ever!

Stephgr8 · 20/05/2017 21:41

I wish I could make pastry like my mum could. We regularly had pies and quiches (she made a great leek and cheese quiche) plus sweet pastry dishes like lemon meringue pie.

xxxxclarexxxx · 20/05/2017 22:29

my mums scouse! she used to be a chef and her one pot wonder scouse dish is FAB! i wish i could make it the same... an endless supply! Good hearty stew like this cannot be beaten! :) x

candish63 · 20/05/2017 23:09

My mum makes a great roast

EasterRobin · 21/05/2017 07:57

My mum makes a fab casserole that I'll be asking her to teach me next time I visit. Loads of chicken with a delicious sauce and carrots, parsnips, potatoes, peas, tomato and herbs.

freedomofspeech · 21/05/2017 09:27

My mum makes the best quiches. Vegan for me and regular for everyone else. I'd never buy from the shop.

allibaby · 21/05/2017 09:31

I used to work at sea and whenever I was coming home my mum used to make me her homemade Pea and Ham soup.
It was the most delicious soup I had ever tasted and I used to dream about it when I was away.
Mums gone now and I have tried and tried to make the soup but it never turns out quite right.

charliechinuk · 21/05/2017 10:15

I enjoyed my mum's cooking. I did like her lasagnes. Her best cooking was her baking! Her cakes were amazing! Miss them and her so much.

katieskatie82 · 21/05/2017 11:02

my mum makes an amazing thai green curry!

Mica3188 · 21/05/2017 12:24

My mum's cobbler is out of this world. She doesn't even like the cheese scones herself because they're too soggy for her, so when she makes these with crispy cheese on top and rammed with veg I really appreciate it. I make it for my own family whenever I can now too!

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 21/05/2017 12:37

Many of us look back longingly at our Mums’ home cooking is this from a Janet & John book for adults? Does my DH remember the way his DF cleaned the family car with fondness? FFS MNHQ.

thisone2 · 21/05/2017 12:41

My mums Sherry Trifle, jelly, sponge soaked in sherry, lots of home preserved fruit, and great thick layers of custard and whipped double cream sprinkled with hundreds and thousands, all in a huge bowl.

avery64 · 21/05/2017 12:48

We had our main meal at noon to coincide with Dad (the breadwinner) cycling home in his lunch hour. Monday was always left over meat from the Sunday Roast and bubble & squeak but other weekdays it was usually a stew of some kind. Pig's fry and mash was my favourite or boiled ham and pease pudding (Mum was a Geordie) Can remember Mum slaving to get everything ready on time. Cooking seemed such hard work taking up a lot of time shopping for, preparing, cooking and cleaning up after. The good old days? Fond memories rekindled but give me time-saving gadgets and easy to source food every time Smile

Nettie17 · 21/05/2017 13:05

My mum used to make steak and kidney stew in a big saucepan on the hob. Carrot and onion added. Don't know how she made the gravy but it was so delicious we used bread to mop it up off the plate!

bugzie92 · 21/05/2017 13:05

My mum used to make what we would call 'Newcastle Brew' (she is from Newcastle!) it was packed full of sausages, potatoes, veg and a lovely gravy sauce. I have tried many many times to recreate this nostalgic dish, but am yet to succeed! It was a lovely winter warmer for sure!
