Whether you spent every weekend with them, just saw them occasionally or had on on-the-phone relationship, grandparents are people who often bring back exciting memories from childhood as well as heartfelt moments in adult life - and with Grandparent’s Day coming up, Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would love to hear about them.

So, whether they’re of being taught how to bake, of sculpturing sandcastles at the seaside or intense games of scrabble, tell Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons about the moments of joy you’ve shared with your grandparents or those you’ve witnessed your children share with your parents.

All those who post on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £265 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw!

I remember picking flowers and eating pea straight out of the pods from his garden (which was full of growing things).

Going crabbing with the grandparents

My best memories are holidays with my grandparents when we were kids and my grandad would play with us for hours :)

pennwood · 22/09/2016 19:07

My Mum always made beautiful birthday cakes when I was a child, & then for her grandchildren. We had crinoline lady cake made with a doll through the middle of the sponge, a school straw hat, & cute animals depending on what the 'in' topic had been gleamed by Gran. I remember the excitement & wonder I felt when the surprise cake complete with candles appeared, & love the look of pure joy that appeared my daughter's face, & the beaming smiles shared by all. Wonderful memories.

Mint humbugs, we only ever used to get them when we visited my Grandma

on holiday at their home

carolineandryanandseb · 22/09/2016 19:43

My mum was at my home birth and had the first cuddle with my little one... a moment she will never forget and I will cherish telling my son about when he's a bit older :)

I miss my grandmother so much, one of my most favourite memories was when she stayed with me in London with my mum. She was awarded the MBE in Buckingham palace, I was so proud of her, she devoted her life to helping others.

My grandparents are awesome!! They're both in their 80's but super active; they cycle everywhere & swim 3 times a week. I lost both my parents at quite a young age & my grandparents were there for me always. They moved to the "seaside" when I was 2 & from being really little, I'd spend every summer holidays with them. They're amazing, selfless & utterly devoted to their family. Xx

kamaxtra · 22/09/2016 20:50

Sitting in their sun room with them, looking through boxes that were in storage, full of old photographs of my parents growing up.

KittyKat88 · 22/09/2016 21:00

Sadly my girls just have one grandparent left - their nana - and we travel to stay with her in Scotland every summer and make very precious memories every time! I daren't think of a time when she won't be around!

emzywemzy1986 · 22/09/2016 21:10

I remember having one of my first salads and grandmas house, every week we would go round and it always tasted better than at home!

towser44 · 22/09/2016 21:26

I unfortunately lost all my grandparents at a very young age, but I take immense pleasure in seeing the reciprocal love between my 4 year old daughter and my parents. I try to make sure my daughter cherishes every moment with them :-)

RACHELSMITH45 · 22/09/2016 21:27

I was lucky to know my grandparents as long as I did. I remember the picnics at the park and games of rounders. I remember the strawberry picking. Fab memories of playing out with my sisters in their garden (we didn't have one). We used to make up our own games. Miss those days.

buckley1983 · 22/09/2016 21:56

My parents split up shortly after my son was born - they both live a few hours away from us, but he has an extra-special relationship with both of them which makes me really happy :) He ADORES Grandad & relentlessly calls his name the minute he walks in the door to play games, run races, show him his trains, read books, etc - poor old Grandad doesn't get a minute of rest until LO is in bed! He loves it though :)
Granny is also really special - he likes doing the more chilled activities with her - baking, colouring in & gardening.
I was gutted when they split up, but actually - it's a good thing (aside from the very obvious benefit in that they are happier apart!!!) because my son has a great relationship with them both 1:1, which he probably wouldn't have had if they had stayed together.
My only wish is that they both lived a bit closer so we could enjoy them even more!

chrissiecurtis · 22/09/2016 21:59

I loved my grandparents! I used to love staying at theirs and I remember my grandads full english breakfast simply dripping with fat! they tasted nice. We used to pop to the shop to get the sunday paper and some sweets! Simple things but I will never forget them.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 22/09/2016 22:03

My grandparents all died before the end of primary school but I have a strong memory of my grandfather in the house he lived in until I was about 4. He did a magic trick with a polo and a paper bag. He would put a polo in a paper bag, blow the paper bag up and then I would burst the paper bag and the sweet had magically disappeared. Took me years to work out how he had done it. I also remember the draughty room we slept in with creaking floorboards, beams and loads of blankets.

happysouls · 22/09/2016 22:09

I used to go to my grandparents house after primary school every day where my granny would make me a 'picnic'! This was a little plate of assorted sweets always with a Cadburys Animal Bar! We'd play schools and I was always the teacher and she was the 'naughty girl'. It says so much for her patience that she wrote lines! hahaha! I still had them years later! Really funny to look back at!

GetKnitted · 22/09/2016 22:09

I can just picture them rolling around on the sofa as my mum reads them winnie the pooh, it still hasn't lost its charm or its humour!

Cailin7 · 22/09/2016 22:43

spent every weekend at grans and she taught me how to bake an the rules of snooker!

lynsmagoo · 22/09/2016 23:09

Every day after primary school my granny would pick me up and I'd watch the soap home and away at her house. We would then do some knitting and I'd play draughts with my grandad. He passed away when I was young so it's the only memory I have of him. I still have the draught board, it's about 30 years old now and is falling apart but it's something i'll cherish for the rest of my life!

Cooking with my nana and papa, great memories.

stefalfie11 · 23/09/2016 11:00

One of the best memories I have of my grandad is being taught by him to ride a bike. We practised day after day in the back garden on the grass and he must have run miles chasing behind me incase I had a wobble or two! It took him ages to let me practise on the concrete because he was so worried that i'd fall off and hurt myself!
