Whether you spent every weekend with them, just saw them occasionally or had on on-the-phone relationship, grandparents are people who often bring back exciting memories from childhood as well as heartfelt moments in adult life - and with Grandparent’s Day coming up, Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would love to hear about them.

So, whether they’re of being taught how to bake, of sculpturing sandcastles at the seaside or intense games of scrabble, tell Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons about the moments of joy you’ve shared with your grandparents or those you’ve witnessed your children share with your parents.

All those who post on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £265 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw!

My favourite memory is relatively recent- introducing my son, the first grandchild, to my grandparents and having four generations together was just magical.
I didn't get to see my grandparents a lot when I was growing up, but we're making sure my little one grows up seeing lots of them! Family is too precious to miss out on x

I used to visit my grandma and grandad every weekend, my grandma would make us a den behind the sofa with a bed sheet and we'd have a little picnic in there. Then in the afternoon we would make cushion beds on the living room floor and watch films like Goodnight Mister Tom, Pollyanna and Little Women.

I used to go round most afternoons after school to do the bamboozle quiz on teletext too.

My grandad passed away a couple of years ago and my grandma isn't very well but I still see her every week and most Wednesdays we go out for lunch together and catch up / talk about old times.

My two children are really close with their great grandma and it's lovely to see them snuggled up to her on the sofa listening to the stories she used to tell us when I was their age!

Who ever new that Grandpa was amazing at colouring!

Yumpopbythesea · 23/09/2016 19:04

Crazy old wives tale solutions such as wee to cure chilblains :/ or brown bread poultice to remove splinters (actually works) and being taught to cook

My grandmother taught me to knit and love of murder mystery novels, I miss her very much as she taught me a lot about strength and endurance as she was in terrible pain for the last few years but carried on with a smile.

My grandparents have passed away but I will always remember them having all the time in the world to chat and play games. My mum does the same with my boys too. As soon as they get there all the games are out.

I was lucky enough to have both sets of grandparents living only a few roads away. I have fond memories of: reading Dr Seuss books; hiding behind the sofa whilst watching Dr Who (the old ones) and painting with my Grandad in his artists shed. I also used to love going to my Dad's parents for tea, as we'd get to have proper chips and a fried egg - we never had these at home.

Baking.... well my grandad baked and I ate!

loubymain · 23/09/2016 21:16

My children have an amazing relationship with both grandparents, particularly their nana and nanny. The have spent time baking, even more time gardening, and a lot of time raiding their sweetie drawers and leaving sticky fingerprints on their pristine furniture.

sweir1 · 23/09/2016 23:23

I can remember licking the cake mix of my nans famous victoria sponge cake

My very old Nan lived with us when I was young, I used to always be playing tricks on her, she used to love reading and I used to creep into her room and open the current book she was reading and move her bookmark back several chapters, then wait to here her moan to my Mother that the library had "another book printed all wrong as they keep repeating the same chapters" I did this for years and she never twigged it was me.

So many lovely memories of my mum's parents. We didn't see them often as we weren't close by but I used to love visiting in the school holidays.

If we went in the February half term, my grandma would have always saved us a bit of Christmas cake in a tin on the shelf in her kitchen.Smile

I was always the first one awake in our house at home, but grandma used to get up at the crack of dawn, and I used to love waking up and finding someone up and about already.

She used to make the most delicious damson crumble, and I loved the little pantry in their house where she would keep the leftovers. I also used to love it when she made stuff for us on her old foot-pedal sewing machine, which I now keep as a memory of her.

My grandad was lovely too. Always so smart and well presented, even when he was going nowhere! He was such a kind, gentle man. I used to love playing in his shed in the garden when I was little! And sitting on his lap, pulling his ears!

He was a very humble man, from a simple background. He was always so puffed up with pride at what his grandchildren had achieved.

They both died too soon. I wish I could have known them longer. Sad

Oh, and I love seeing my dd with my own mum and dad. They are the perfect grandparents - so helpful and so loving. We're lucky to live near them, so they are very close to dd, and their house is like her second home.

Mummyshortlegz · 24/09/2016 11:17

I have lovely memory of my grandmother putting face powder on me and my sister. We would have been very young. I remember the smell of the powder and the feel of the puff. She had very bad hips and wasn't very mobile but she did what she could and was always on hand with a treat or a "don't tell mummy..".

bex552 · 24/09/2016 12:36

I always went to my Nan and grandads on a Friday night for a sleepover and then on sat morning they would teach me to cook something! I still use the recipes now, my favourite was Black Forest gateau

Marg2k8 · 24/09/2016 14:59

Sadly, I never knew my grandparents. Neither do my children remember their grandparents.

StickChildNumberTwo · 24/09/2016 21:57

Summer holidays always included a trip to our grandparents, where we would be plied with more food than we could eat and generally loved to bits. There are certain cakes I still associate with my Grandma.

Cheby · 25/09/2016 10:04

My Dsis and I used to stay with my Granny when we were kids. We loved picking fruit and veg from her garden, and spent many a happy Sunday afternoon shelling peas and making mint sauce from scratch.

My DD loves visiting my DM now, she loves to bake with Grandma and feed the birds in the garden with Grandpa.

MakeTeaNotWar · 25/09/2016 10:36

I lost my grandparents when I was v young so my memories are hazy. My Mum's Dad died on my 6th birthday yet I remember that he always had Chewits in his pockets that I would be delighted to find and devour - I must have been 4 or 5

Ethan260908 · 25/09/2016 12:36

riding a tractor with my granddad, even though my dad forbad it (surely that's what grandparents are for???), awesome times, and I shall be just as irresponsible and naughty when I am blessed

seeingdouble2 · 25/09/2016 16:30

My children love nothing more that spending a Sunday after noon with the grandparents at the local nature park. From squirrel spotting to jumping baby bunnies and pine cone collecting. Lots of fresh air and laughter all round.

ataraxia · 25/09/2016 19:39

At big family gatherings we play a card game which involves grabbing a spoon (there is one fewer spoon than the number of players), We were in stitches once watching Grandma launch herself across the dining table towards the last spoon. She got it!

Laurajp35 · 25/09/2016 22:16

I was very lucky to have wonderful grandparents and my little girl is too. One of my favourite moments before my little girl was born was that my mum was able to hear her heartbeat! Very special!

angiehoggett · 26/09/2016 13:00

I went to my grandparents house every night after school, I have some lovely memories both me and my brother spent hours drawing with my grandad and going for walks whilst my grandma was an amazing cook so she always had lovely meals and I loved helping her make xmas cakes every year for all the family and friends!

maisiesnan · 26/09/2016 14:46

The best times were going on holiday to Sheffield to stay with my grandparents ( my dad was in the army ) I thought it was fantastic staying up late to watch Coronation Street with my nana and going out with my grandad to his pigeon coop to feed his racing pigeons
