Whether you spent every weekend with them, just saw them occasionally or had on on-the-phone relationship, grandparents are people who often bring back exciting memories from childhood as well as heartfelt moments in adult life - and with Grandparent’s Day coming up, Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would love to hear about them.

So, whether they’re of being taught how to bake, of sculpturing sandcastles at the seaside or intense games of scrabble, tell Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons about the moments of joy you’ve shared with your grandparents or those you’ve witnessed your children share with your parents.

All those who post on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £265 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw!

My two children really love seeing their grandparents. My in laws always go out of their way to give their precious time to all of their grand children, stock up on all the favourite sweets, to getting a super duper paddling pool for their garden. Even I can spend hours chatting to my mother in law as she is a good listener.

My nan lived in Cornwall and I live in Bournemouth so we didn't see each other very often but we spoke for hours on the phone about anything and everything. Unfortunately I don't have any grandparents now but i miss them very much especially my nan and our chats x

My two love to visit their granny and granddad in the school holidays and take them to the park or out for ice-cream. They have such a special bond and its lovely to hear them giggle at their granny's jokes and there grandad pretending to be a child. We will also visit their Great Granny who's in a care home and entertain her and her housemates with puppet shows and dancing - its lovely to see the smile on their faces.

My fondest memory is when my eldest (now grown up!) used to love debating. We have always had one evening meal a week at Grandma's and my father and son used to debate opposing positions on whatever topic I came up with. My father, a confirmed meat eater who hates vegetables had to argue for veganism and my son a vegetarian had to argue for meat eating. I don't think I have ever laughed so much.

My little LOVES time with her nana! She helps her do the gardening and enjoys getting messy and making mud pies. It's lovely to see.

Walking in the Pennines with my grandparents, picking bilberries and playing poohsticks in a stream.

in my childhood i spent every school holiday with my grandparents as they lived miles away, now were so close people mistake them for my mum and dad, best fun ever with them

finleypop · 22/09/2016 08:05

My mum dies really unexpectedly earlier this year. She had blown me away with her all consuming love for our son. I used to love school holidays, when she would call for him to go into town with her twice a week. It made me chuckle so much to see them tootle off down the street together, both chatting at a million miles an hour with their arms round each other. We miss grandma so very much

We rejigged our lives so that one of us was almost always with the children. I took a evening job to fit in. However, every now and then, we would call on my husband's grandparents to help out. Together, we really enjoyed visiting Roath Park and the wildlife conservatory there. But when we weren't with them, they took them to McDonald's, the old devils!

I met my grandmother when I was 14, we lived in another country and at that time travelling by plane was something only very rich people did.
I remember the two of us having soup and she would stop and say you look sooooooooooo much like your mother when she was your age... Very sweet moments ...very sweet !

Mum is great and is always happy to take part in the DC's silly role playing games. Mum seems to have more energy around her and they clearly adore each other's company. Magic

Olivia loves visiting her GG & Grandpa, she spends so much time playing in their garden. I created a little fairy garden in their garden especially for her & yesterday she planted some bulbs ready for next year. She's given them both a new lease of life

My most treasured moment is with my daughter and my grandad. My grandad had false teeth and my daughter (whos 7) had baked some brownies with my eldest daughter (whos 14). They gave my grandad one and being the joker he was, he bit into it and as he pulled the brownie out of his mouth, his false teeth followed! Everyone there roared laughing but for my 7 year old who was absolutely horrified that she had caused my grandads teeth to come out. Hes since sadly passed away and my daughter talks about my grandad most days saying she misses him because he was so funny!

frances93 · 22/09/2016 09:26

My grandparents were absolutely amazing people, and were never afraid of joining in a party! My favourite moment was my nana at my brothers 6th birthday party, she ran jumped on the bouncy castle and wouldn't let any of the kids on till she had finished!

Elizasmum02 · 22/09/2016 09:32

Every good childhood memory i have has my grandad in it. he used to go everywhere with us, read to us, play with us, he even used to take us to school

essexchic · 22/09/2016 09:44

My granparents practically brought me up, i was so close to them and miss them so much.

shellywkd · 22/09/2016 09:45

My granddad was blind but still played the keyboard really well. I used to love sitting on the stool next to him as he tried to teach me. I appreciate now so much more how much I enjoyed spending that time with him as he hasn't been with us for years and my daughter never got to meet him. It is a real shame as well as she is really musical she plays guitar, keyboard and sings. My granddad would have loved it.

jacqui5366 · 22/09/2016 09:47

I loved time with my grandad in his potting shed, helping him plant sunflower seeds, watching him add wood to his little pot belly stove, (loving seeing the smoke coming out of his chimney). We grew tomatoes together, and had them sliced in ham sandwiches in the winter months. I always was so proud of the giant sunflowers we grew together. I always smile when I see giant sunflowers in peoples gardens, and think of grandad.

My Grandparent's have always loved a 'hippy lifesytle'.I remember my Grandparent's picking me up from school when I was around 9 years old in a Volkswagen Beetle with huge flowers in all different colours. My Grandfather had a long beard and was always dressed in brightly coloured clothing and flared pants. My Grandmother would also turn up to school sporting brightly coloured clothing and a trendy hat.At first I would feel embarrassed as all my school friends were pointing at the car and giggling. In time I got used to and loved my Grandparents picking me up from school. My Grandparent's were very chilled out and happy and they would always turn up with a big huge smile and so excited to see me.In time I got used to my Grandparents volkswagon and alternative dress sense and i loved them picking me up in their groovy car and didn't care if the children giggled.I loved counting down the minutes to hear the school bell ring at the end of the day because i knew my Grandparents were so excited to see me and always turned up with big smiles.

Before she passed, I used to go to the local library on saturdays and pick out a couple of books with my gran and read them during the week. We would then talk about them and the things that happened the next weekend :)
