To celebrate the launch of New Pampers Baby-Dry, Pampers are working with baby sleep expert Jo Tantum - who has 25 years’ experience helping hundreds of families to achieve a peaceful night’s sleep. Jo has identified 5 sleep typologies that may help you to understand your baby’s sleep habits and needs better and we’ve been asked by Pampers to find out which sleep typology best represents your little one? Take a read and post on the thread below to be in with a chance of winning a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Here’s what Pampers has to say about their new launch: "If your little one loves to keep you awake, then you’re certainly not alone! But, having a good night’s sleep is crucial for babies; it’s when important brain development occurs and they process everything they have learnt during the day. With experts believing that wetness may impact your little one’s sleep, their overnight nappy needs to work as hard as possible; introducing New Pampers Baby-Dry, which 83% of Mumsnet parent testers said they would recommend as part of a recent trial! New Pampers Baby-Dry feature a revolutionary nappy design with 3 Absorbing Channels that distribute wetness more evenly for less wet bulk in the morning!"

To launch the New Pampers Baby-Dry nappy, Pampers are working with Jo - and want you to be involved. So, is your little one a Starfish, Skylark, Sloth, Owl or Meerkat sleeper? Take a look and let us know - and if your DC doesn’t seem to fit one of these categories, choose your own animal and post it below telling us why!

Starfish: Sleeps in the same position, on their back with legs out. Uses you as a sleep prop, for example sleep-rocking or feeding, then they don’t move. Wakes often and regularly, but does go back to sleep easily after intervention. You would rather they slept through!
Skylark: Awake early in the morning, singing and shouting and refuses to go back to sleep whatever you try!
Sloth: Loves to sleep and can sleep anywhere and everywhere. A great sleeper, day and night – lucky you! But what happens when they wake up? Well you know it’s going to be for a growth or developmental spurt or they are teething or not well.
Owl: Goes to bed late and wakes in the night. Is wide awake for long periods and can’t get back to sleep!
Meerkat: Stands up, moves around trying to get comfortable all night, doesn’t want to sleep; always on high alert. Late to bed, early to rise.

What sleep typology best represents your little one, or ones? Share your baby sleep stories – whether restful or restless, Pampers would love to hear about it! Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

My daughter would be a skylark. She's a great sleeper, but she's always up early raring to go and you wouldn't get her back to sleep if it's really early so no lie ins for me. To be honest I'd rather get up a bit earlier, than her be waking loads throughout the night. I'm always surprised at how happy she is in the mornings when she wakes up, she wakes up straight away and seems happy to be awake

Definitely a meerkat. I just spent 45 mins repeatedly putting my dd down as she has just worked out how to pull herself up to sitting. Gahh!

CheeseEMouse · 27/08/2016 18:32

My littlest goes on safari whilst nodding off (often to be found amongst his teddies or rammed against the head of the cot), but then sleeps fine. Time was he was just up all the time. As with all these things, it all changes with time anyway.

liane77 · 27/08/2016 22:17

I think I've had most of them from my four. No 1 woke every hour for 5 mins. No 2 went to sleep well at 6:30 but woke at 2 and wanted to play until 5. No 3 was a sloth. He slept well day and night regardless of growth surya and teething. No 4 is mostly a sloth but when he is awake he is very active and never gets grizzly when tired. Xxx love them all xxx

Purplehonesty · 27/08/2016 22:20

I have a meerkat (7) and a sloth (4)

So whatever I do I never get a long lie. And you can guarantee that the very day that my meerkat happens to sleep in past 7am, the sloth decides today is the day to wake up early and join me for paw patrol in bed Sad

ihearttea · 27/08/2016 23:47

Definitely a little starfish... feeds and needs Mummy cuddles to go to sleep, wakes regularly all through the night but settles quickly with a cuddle and reassurance. As much as I'm exhausted by the constant waking, I'm really pleased that I'm not up for hours at a time getting her back to sleep.

GlitterGlassEye · 27/08/2016 23:56

Dd2 is definitely a meerkat. She's 2 on Monday and has never slept through the night. The longest sleep she ever had was about 6 months ago. She slept from 8.30 til 4.00. Although I may have slept through her earlier awakenings that night. Help me!

frances93 · 28/08/2016 03:32

My baby is a sloth, just like his mammy & daddy! I've always tried my best to get him into a routine - warm bath, bottle & bed. However he would quite happily sleep anywhere at anytime, we are very lucky!

Sid98 · 28/08/2016 03:54

Meerkat my little one wake up throughout the night and still get up early

ThemisA · 28/08/2016 06:26

Owl is nearest - my son never slept more than few hours until he was five!

WarmHugs · 28/08/2016 07:16

DC1 was a sloth. DC2 was a skylark. That's was a bit of a shock to the system!

glenka · 28/08/2016 07:37

A skylark best represents them.

Ganne1 · 28/08/2016 07:42

We never had a problem (or so I, probably mistakenly, remember. A nightlight with "floating" childish images on really helped though. As did a little reading before bed.

maryandbuzz1 · 28/08/2016 07:50

Has to be Skylark.....but that's not too bad I just went to be bed early and my husband would do the late feed. A warm bath and bedtime routine with a story seemed to work with my son.

Elizasmum02 · 28/08/2016 08:00

Sloth my daughter loves her sleep !

renas · 28/08/2016 08:01

Mine both Sloths sleep all night wake not too early and then they play a while, so very good

13umpuu · 28/08/2016 08:07

She's a peaceful starfish - then a skylark!

She wakes up full of excitement and will chatter, giggle and clap her hands - can't persuade her that 5:30 isn't time to get up! Luckily DP and I take turns to do the early play shift - and she's so jolly it's impossible to not feel happy about it!

jt75 · 28/08/2016 08:23

Sleepless nights for the 1st 6 months then ok after that.

hdh747 · 28/08/2016 08:35

Definitely a skylark. Unfortunately my son discovered the re-dial button on the telephone and unbeknown to me didn't just wake us up but rang our friends just before 6am and woke them up too!

zombeana · 28/08/2016 08:58

Starfish, sleep prop being a boob.
Will knock her out in minutes, but wakes up for it often and cries until she gets it, then is asleep again in seconds! Wish I had more tips, we were up 5 x last night and that was an improvment ;)

janeyf1 · 28/08/2016 09:00

A Meerkat definitely!

starryskies78 · 28/08/2016 09:06

My ds, 4 is now a Starfish and Skylark! Nights are full of being kicked in the head as he tends to starfish upside down (yes, we need to tackle getting him back in his own bed, but for genuine reasons this hasn't happened yet!)

When he was a baby though he was a total nightmare and didn't sleep through until 18 months. He was definitely a combination of Owl and Meerkat. Don't think I've recovered from the huge loss of sleep yet!

I am however thankful that he does sleep now, wherever that may be!

Najab1 · 28/08/2016 09:10

I have a 7 month old star fish. Such a good sleeper. My 5 year old used to be a sloth but has decided sleeps for the weak and evolved into a very loud meerkat. Never would have thought it would be the oldest to turn me into a mombie.

Caillou · 28/08/2016 09:11

Mine is a moving starfish....

Very common for my to wake up after being hit in the face or more recently I got woken up as she was trying to smoother me with her bum...

kerryv · 28/08/2016 09:36

My daughter never slept for more than 2 hours at a time as a baby. She's 10 now and goes to bed later than me!
