To celebrate the launch of New Pampers Baby-Dry, Pampers are working with baby sleep expert Jo Tantum - who has 25 years’ experience helping hundreds of families to achieve a peaceful night’s sleep. Jo has identified 5 sleep typologies that may help you to understand your baby’s sleep habits and needs better and we’ve been asked by Pampers to find out which sleep typology best represents your little one? Take a read and post on the thread below to be in with a chance of winning a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Here’s what Pampers has to say about their new launch: "If your little one loves to keep you awake, then you’re certainly not alone! But, having a good night’s sleep is crucial for babies; it’s when important brain development occurs and they process everything they have learnt during the day. With experts believing that wetness may impact your little one’s sleep, their overnight nappy needs to work as hard as possible; introducing New Pampers Baby-Dry, which 83% of Mumsnet parent testers said they would recommend as part of a recent trial! New Pampers Baby-Dry feature a revolutionary nappy design with 3 Absorbing Channels that distribute wetness more evenly for less wet bulk in the morning!"

To launch the New Pampers Baby-Dry nappy, Pampers are working with Jo - and want you to be involved. So, is your little one a Starfish, Skylark, Sloth, Owl or Meerkat sleeper? Take a look and let us know - and if your DC doesn’t seem to fit one of these categories, choose your own animal and post it below telling us why!

Starfish: Sleeps in the same position, on their back with legs out. Uses you as a sleep prop, for example sleep-rocking or feeding, then they don’t move. Wakes often and regularly, but does go back to sleep easily after intervention. You would rather they slept through!
Skylark: Awake early in the morning, singing and shouting and refuses to go back to sleep whatever you try!
Sloth: Loves to sleep and can sleep anywhere and everywhere. A great sleeper, day and night – lucky you! But what happens when they wake up? Well you know it’s going to be for a growth or developmental spurt or they are teething or not well.
Owl: Goes to bed late and wakes in the night. Is wide awake for long periods and can’t get back to sleep!
Meerkat: Stands up, moves around trying to get comfortable all night, doesn’t want to sleep; always on high alert. Late to bed, early to rise.

What sleep typology best represents your little one, or ones? Share your baby sleep stories – whether restful or restless, Pampers would love to hear about it! Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

I've had a Sloth, a Skylark and a Meercat. However, my boys do something else you might call the Meercat, but as that name's taken I'll call it the Guardsman. In our experience, no nappy survives the night-time Guardsmen after toddlerhood!

Feelingblue222 · 25/08/2016 09:34

Starfish unfortunately. How I wish for a sloth!

Only 6m at the moment but showing meerkat tendencies already, he zips around the cot using his seal belly flop

HowsAnnie · 25/08/2016 09:40

My almost 2 year old is starfish/meerkat/owl combined. Which shows comparing sleep to a random animal means zilch...
(Sorry, very tired!)

Ladybirdturd · 25/08/2016 11:28

Skylark here. No chance of her going back to sleep once her eyes have ope.

Cosmia · 25/08/2016 13:49

A meerkat. Since before she could properly stand, my daughter has been on duty in her cot, maintaining surveillance throughout the night!

Nicnac81 · 25/08/2016 14:42

I've got me a starfish... Can't get her to sleep without one of us rocking her or me feeding her to sleep, luckily she then sleeps for 4-8hours 😊

OhHolyFuck · 25/08/2016 17:21

I have a skylark - goes to bed early and gets up early - and a teenager (despite being 3!) goes to bed late and wants to sleep in all morning (but can't because they share a room and ds1 wakes him up!)
Means I never get time on my own either at night or in the morning!

Sammyislost · 25/08/2016 18:16

Hmm maybe starfish but none match mine perfectly. Both of mine try to avoid sleep, they fight it until they are told off and by then they haven't fallen asleep until late, then they sleep through the night but wake up as soon as the sun rises. I wonder what they'd call my children!

mata777 · 25/08/2016 21:27

Mine is definitely a starfish. She goes to sleep by breastfeeding and as soon as she wakes up in her bed for a first time, she climbs to our bed next to it. She takes over most of it and happily goes to sleep again if I am next to her. We can't move her to her own room because we couldn't get any sleep at all.

Amaksy · 25/08/2016 21:37

I'll go with Skylark - love using the Baby dry as it helps to keep him dry after a night's sleep

JollyHockeyGits · 25/08/2016 22:05

Currently we have an Owly Starfish. Goes to bed late, wakes a few times but not awake for long. Always sleeps on his side. Hopefully an earlier bed time will sort it out crosses fingers, toes, eyelashes...

BertieBotts · 25/08/2016 22:30

DS was a starfish but I didn't mind. I think that's one of the best out of the options TBH!

del2929 · 25/08/2016 23:50

well ...i have an 8 week old SLOTH for now.... hoping she remains a SLOTH...... lol

FeelingSmurfy · 25/08/2016 23:55

Skylark

Also a Seal - lying on front with arms underneath

NickyEds · 26/08/2016 07:07

From 12 months with ds and 8 months with dd mine have been sloths, barring illness or teething. Born lucky.

Surf25 · 26/08/2016 11:09

We have had a sloth who has morphed into a strange cross breed of sloth-skylark at sunrise and two starfish who seem to be turning into skylarks too! It does mean that the early morning rush that people speak about before school/nursery/work doesn't ever really happen as we have hours before we have to leave! They also go to be nice and early, 7-7.30, so I am not complaining. When each of them were babies we used to tell them that we love bed in our family! And now the older ones repeat it the youngest!

Now we are expecting identical twins...what animals will they be and will they be the same?! Expectations are not high at the moment!!!

LubiLooLoo · 26/08/2016 12:06

My little Harry is defiantly a Starfish! He even resembles a starfish when he sleeps. He sleeps soundly as long as he's in my bed, the moment he touches his crib... He's wide awake!

Guess he's a mummy's boy for now Smile

Skylark skylark!! Since birth DS would wake every 3h throughout night & then around 3am would wake every 15m or so until 5am when he would roar and nothing could shush him back to sleep. At one point it turned to 4am starts. I was desperate!! Could not function

flamingtoaster · 26/08/2016 16:25

DS has always been an extreme skylark - would go down every evening at 7.00 pm and get up at 4.00 am until he was 4 (though he was very good and would play in his cot/room for ages), by the time he was 6 we were all having a lie in until 6.00 am. DD was much more like a sloth and would wake happily at 7.00 am which was why we had to teach DS to be quiet when he woke up as we didn't want two of them getting up at 4.00 am!

OksanaFitzgerald · 26/08/2016 17:25

Mine is definitely an owl. She wakes up every 3 hours at night. And I struggle to put her to bed before 10 pm.

MilkyMess · 26/08/2016 19:29

Mixture of starfish with brief appearances of meerkat when she feels lit!

Didiusfalco · 27/08/2016 00:28

Mine is definitely a starfish. She will go back to sleep but still wakes up multiple times a night, unfortunately this makes me part starfish by default - much as I would love to revert back to my natural state as a sloth!

Nzou1050 · 27/08/2016 02:26

An owl until about midnight, then a starfish. I'm hoping she evolves into a sloth though.

Anbelmum · 27/08/2016 05:14

My 6 week old is a Sloth sleeper! She loves her sleep and loves to lay starfish like in her cot (forget the crib, she's already outgrown that!). We started using Pampers Baby Dry last week as she got a bad nappy rash from her previous nappy and they've really helped, great nappies.

MumiTravels · 27/08/2016 10:21

A 17 month old Sloth.

Enjoys 14 to 16 hours of sleep a night. Goes to bed between 6.30pm and 7pm and is still asleep now at 10.20am. Still demands an afternoon nap too.

He's like his Mama Grin
