Across the festive season, Microsoft Xbox would like to hear the top tips Mumsnetters have for getting the most out of Xbox One for all the family.

Here’s what they say: “Providing hours of endless family fun, the Xbox One is home to the greatest games – including family favourites ‘Minecraft Xbox One Edition’, ‘Forza Motorsport 6’ and ‘Ori and the Blind Forest’ – as well as popular entertainment apps such as BBC iPlayer and Netflix Kids.“

They’ve even included a tutorial video to help you set up your Xbox One. You can view it below.

So how do you and your family get the most out of your Xbox One? Do you gather round the sofa to build a virtual world together on Minecraft? Maybe you challenge each other to FIFA football competitions? Perhaps you use the apps on your console to watch Christmas movies as a family? Have you any advice for parents considering buying an Xbox One this Christmas? Whatever your tips are, Microsoft wants to know.

Everyone who posts on this thread with their tips will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

I'd recommend getting to know the Xbox and how it works yourself. My son gets upset when told to shut the game straight off, when going out or to bed, as some games can't just be switched straight off without losing progress, so if you know you are going out or it's bedtime make sure you tell them in advance and allow them time to save the game.
I'd also recommend getting it out before giving it to your child and downloading any updates and games to it as it can take hours to do some updates and children are not very patient and just want to start playing their games.

We spend a couple of hours on weekends taking turns and playing together.

Our top tip is to encourage children to play with people not on their own. We all like playing games together as a family. Everyone takes turns and we have lots of fun chatting. We also limit time spent playing by yourself

Trying to understand how to use it but new technology is not easy to understand. I hope my son knows how to use it in advance. the best way to understand it is listen to others in the same predicament .

My son loves his x-box one playing games with his friends and the voice activation. Blurays and watching youtube

We pay for gold, I thought it would be a waste of money at first, but we have had so many free or reduced price games it has paid for itself

Game sharing online.

Get it set up before it's actually needed, the updates can take ages and there's nothing worse than lots of excited faces, turning to frustrated ones and that includes the person setting it up!
