Hotel Transylvania 2 have asked us to find out what stories Mumsnetters have about moments when teaching your DCs maybe haven’t quite worked out as planned…

In Hotel Transylvania 2, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. So while his mother Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny – and in for a major cultural shock of her own – “Vampa” Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. As Mumsnetters well know, teaching your children to do something isn’t always as simple as it seems….!

You can watch the trailer below.

So, have you got any funny stories of when you were trying to teach your DC something? Maybe you were trying to teach your child to read and they came out with some inappropriate interpretation of a word? Or perhaps you were teaching your child to cook when they decided that the cake batter would work better as a face mask? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear your funny stories about teaching your DCs something.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 John Lewis voucher! Runners up can also win 1 of 2 exclusive Hotel Transylvania 2 goody bags!

#HotelT2 is At Cinemas October 16 in 3D.

Thanks and good luck

When potty-training my son, I would clap and cheer when he managed to do his business on the potty, as you do. One day when out shopping, we stopped for a toilet break. By the time I'd had a wee, my son was cheering "Well done, Mummy! You do number one or two?" Bearing in mind we had to queue for the toilet and there are around 20 cubicles in there too, so it was fairly busy. I didn't know whether to whisper or speak loudly to make sure everyone knew I hadn't had a number two ha ha!!

my son has aspergers so teaching anything a challenge as you have to choose words so carefully . As everything he takes literally. As hes my only child and ive explaining clearly for 3rd time i wonder is it because his brain is wired differently or is he switched off and then we have eureka moment "oh mummmy thats too easy"

Phew we can all breathe again

My teenage daughter has ADHD and has a very untidy room and isn't very responsible for her property - we bought her a tablet for Christmas one year and she stood on it before New Year, we got her a great Sony Laptop/Tablet and she left it in the way of the dogs and it got chewed, so have been trying to teach her to look after her things and won't let her have a new phone as I don't want her to get something that she may break easily.

I feel a bit hypocritical as I have now dropped a phone down the toilet, fallen over and smashed my phone on the pavement and rushed into a new contract and ended up with a phone I hate (and it's faulty). When her contract runs out at the end of the month, I feel I now have no choice but to let her replace her phone!!

I was teaching my son about places around the world. We have friends that live in Holland and they gave him a t-shirt with 'Amsterdam' written in the front. My son got out the t-shirt and came to ask 'is this where hamsters come from?' I almost peed my pants with laughter. He didn't think it was that funny and got really cross when I was unable to answer!

We were teaching our girls about the importance of exercise & keeping active one Sunday as we went for a walk in the countryside. We stopped off at a pub for Sunday dinner when a rather large gentleman with a plate stacked high with food shuffled past. In a loud voice my youngest piped up "Well he doesn't do much exercise!"

My DH decided it would be helpful to teach our daughter how to use iPlayer on the TV. It didn't seem to have dawned on him that in doing so he'd given away all control over what she watches and when....

trying to teach our DC what is appropriate to say in public when they make loud comments about people that make you want to hurry away in embarrassment e.g.exclaiming about a man looking like a woman because they have long hair etc.

Helping dd2 with her phonics over breakfast I asked "what does toast begin with?" She grinned and said "I know this, toast begins with bread!" Grin
