Hobbycraft have asked us to find out what artsy school projects Mumsnetters have been helping their DCs with.

Here's what Hobbycraft say, "Kids are back at school, and that can only mean one thing #SchoolProjects.

"Every parent knows that it can be difficult to know where to start with school projects. Well, have no fear! Hobbycraft are here to help. We have created 25 step-by-step School Project guides showing you everything you need to make school curriculum based projects that are fun to make with your kids and sure to earn top marks!

"We've design the projects around the first three Key Stages, included everything you need to make them, easy to follow instructions, template downloads plus loads of helpful tips and interesting bits of information along the way. Whether it's making a Viking helmet, an Egyptian costume, a Roman Castle or Solar system model - School Projects have never been so fuss free and fun!

Visit the Kids' Craft section on the Hobbycraft blog to find the School Project guides."

So, what have your DCs been making for their school projects? Or if they're not currently working on anything at the moment, what's your favourite school project they've made? Maybe it's a science project of an epic model of the night sky with all the different constellations? Or perhaps a very technical drawing with hieroglyphics written on it for history class? Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it.

Please also feel free to add pictures of any of your DCs school projects, we'd love to see them!

Everyone who adds their comments to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where 3 Mumsnetters will win a £100 Hobbycraft voucher!

Thanks,
MNHQ

Our cats love sitting in boxes. So my DDs made a small village for them with some boxes we had left over from a move. They painted windows and cut out doors for them. The ungrateful cats refused to go through the doors and sat on top of the houses!

DD1 is only 6 so ours haven't been adventurous so far, but over the summer her new teacher asked them to make something using their imagination, no limits, which I thought was great for parents strapped for time/cash. As we live in Bristol and did the Shaun Trail this year, she chose to make a Shaun out of air-drying modelling clay and decorate it to her own design. It was a big hit, and she's already planning clay bats for Halloween and clay Christmas tree decorations.

Last term my DS made a model of an anderson shelter bunker as part of their blitz and world war 2 project.

KittyKat88 · 11/09/2015 17:05

My DD's 2015 summer term Reception class project was to build a 'flying' model - needless to say we got stuck in with the paper mache as she desperately wanted to make a hot air balloon! We decorated it with some Peppa Pig stickers from one of her sticker books - she was very proud of all her efforts!

We haven't had anything artsy to do at home yet. Although my oldest has painted a self-portrait over this week, complete with art attack style shading! haha

Tkw2014 · 11/09/2015 19:11

Making a castle was a good one in the past, and a Christmas tree last year.

sealight123 · 11/09/2015 19:47

This is my daughters first year of school so we haven't had any projects yet. However, for nursery we made an easter bonnet and when I say we...me and my daughter we're allowed to stick the grass on as this was daddy's project hahaha

He was so peeved when we didn't win hahaha

lhlee62 · 11/09/2015 22:17

My daughter has to make her face on a paper plate for her face week at school, we are going to use brown wool for hair and felts to do her eyes and lips

pfcpompeysarah · 11/09/2015 22:48

My DS had a competition in his class where they had to create a character with a spoon and he chose to do Harry Potter, he won bless him, I think they liked the fact that he had actually done it himself because looking at the other entries they had a lot of cough help!

sweir1 · 11/09/2015 23:02

my kid has just been asked to make the solar system. I'm more excited than him!

WarmHugs · 12/09/2015 07:18
