Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out which special privileges and treats you use to distract your DC when they’re under the weather.

Here’s what Nurofen for Children have to say: “Our research shows that a quarter of parents find the health of their child the most difficult subject to make decisions on. As parents, you want health advice you can trust. Nurofen for Children is trusted by parents - 9/10 parents who used it would recommend it to a friend*. If your child is struck down with cold, pain or fever, Nurofen for Children offers products to help manage their symptoms. It starts to work in just 15 minutes to bring down a temperature and is clinically proven to last longer than paracetemol to relieve a fever.”

So, what do you let your DC's get away with when they're feeling under the weather? For example, are they allowed to watch TV or play with consoles for longer? Or are they allowed to eat as many sugary snacks as they like? Do you have any special games or inspired tips to keep them entertained when they're poorly?

Tell us how you spoil your kids when they're poorly and you'll be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

When they are unwell I let them off with Everything - sorry but I do - but then again when they are poorly they are normally very good xx

PizzaMama · 02/03/2015 19:02

Watching Frozen 5 times in a row! Confused

mum2eci · 02/03/2015 20:11

Snuggles on the sofa with duvet watching movies :-) ice cream for sore throats ;-)

NettleTea · 02/03/2015 20:27

Ice cream. Everything is always better with ice cream!!

susan123 · 02/03/2015 20:30

When they are ill then we have a duvet day on the sofa, watching far too much tv x

mouseybabe · 02/03/2015 20:31

When my little one is poorly I let him lie in my bed and watch kids tv whilst I iron or clean the bathrooms or bedrooms. We then go downstairs snuggle up on the sofa and watch DVD's or I read books to him. But most of the time he just wants to be left alone or cuddled.

clb2014 · 02/03/2015 20:46

I let them eat what they want, anything to see a bit of happiness back on their face

addictedtosugar · 02/03/2015 20:47

More lenient in general:
freer with food and drink choices
relax the TV watching amounts
and loads and loads of mummy cuddles.

felicity69 · 02/03/2015 21:09

When my children are ill, I let them lie on the settee in their Pyjamas watching the television. I make them chicken soup and toasted soldiers :D

supastar1501 · 02/03/2015 21:47

My Daughter curls up on the sofa with a blanket and watches tv. I keep her food and drink quite plain, but I will give her control of the remote, even if her choice drives me bonkers :-) x

LizB62 · 02/03/2015 23:01

My son always sleeps a lot when he's ill - it seems to help him get back to normal again. When he's awake, it's on the sofa under a duvet if he's well enough, then he gets to choose meals - I figure it's only fair to give him what he feels like when he's not 100%, it's exactly what I do myself when I'm ill !

melmoo · 02/03/2015 23:20

The treats here only go as far as attention and beds. They get lots of my attention if they are ill and they get to stay in bed and off school. I suspect I'm a bit of a pushover with getting off school compared to some parents, possible becuase I don't loose a day off work. Illness at night often leads to them sharing our bed.

lota100 · 02/03/2015 23:29

No dont let them get away with anything, tuck them up in bed

nuttree11 · 03/03/2015 05:01

Watch YouTube or play video games all day

margaretakel · 03/03/2015 07:25

when they b are poorly this is usual a good time to let them watch more TV from the sofa

Weekipper · 03/03/2015 08:08

My 2.5yr old DD is currently ill with Mastoiditis. I'm being very relaxed with her, leaving my agenda aside and giving her lots of cuddles and nurturing.

We had to make a trip to Tesco to buy a new thermometer and I treated her to new pyjamas and a story.

The antibiotics seem to be working but she's getting Calpol and Ibuprofen.

poodlefluff · 03/03/2015 08:29

Snuggled on the sofa watching the TV all day. When they're poorly that's all the energy they've got....

hazey3 · 03/03/2015 10:21

I let my children stay in their pjs, put the duvet down on the sofa and let them watch a couple of films. They soon get bored though so I make little wordsearches and quizzes for them which they enjoy.

BiscuitsForBreakfast · 03/03/2015 10:40

Mine are allowed fizzy drinks and sweets when they wouldn't usually get them. I let them think it's a special treat because they're ill, but really it's because I want them to drink and get a bit of energy. They are also allowed to bring their duvets down and make a 'bed' on the sofa.

Lauralou13 · 03/03/2015 10:45

Yes I definitely, when they are poorly I am more inclined to let them do whatever will make them feel better or happier. Whether that's having a duvet day in front on the TV, playing the ipad/consoles longer, picking what they want to eat. X

MrsB76 · 03/03/2015 11:55

I let them watch TV / movies to their heart's content & also make them hot chocolate (and any other dish they crave).

hardulph2 · 03/03/2015 12:05

I let them play video games for longer than usual as it is a distraction from feeling unwell.

qprvicky · 03/03/2015 14:47

I let them get away with a lot more than usual, as long as they aren't being deliberately naughty or cheeky!

headsy12 · 03/03/2015 16:42

If my children are off school they can watch the tv or listen to music but no computer. Plenty of liquids and light food, you can usually tell when they are picking up they want to go into the kitchen and make biscuits.

LorrOsprey · 03/03/2015 19:32

She gets to stay up late and fall asleep on the sofa.
