Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out which special privileges and treats you use to distract your DC when they’re under the weather.

Here’s what Nurofen for Children have to say: “Our research shows that a quarter of parents find the health of their child the most difficult subject to make decisions on. As parents, you want health advice you can trust. Nurofen for Children is trusted by parents - 9/10 parents who used it would recommend it to a friend*. If your child is struck down with cold, pain or fever, Nurofen for Children offers products to help manage their symptoms. It starts to work in just 15 minutes to bring down a temperature and is clinically proven to last longer than paracetemol to relieve a fever.”

So, what do you let your DC's get away with when they're feeling under the weather? For example, are they allowed to watch TV or play with consoles for longer? Or are they allowed to eat as many sugary snacks as they like? Do you have any special games or inspired tips to keep them entertained when they're poorly?

Tell us how you spoil your kids when they're poorly and you'll be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

duvets in the lounge and they don't have to change out of their PJs

melvis · 01/03/2015 15:42

We get the quilt down, the ultimate poorly treat! Sofa, quilt and Despicable Me x

crickmel · 01/03/2015 22:26

TV or movie whilst snuggled on the sofa. No sweet treats as she usually goes off her food. Just lots of cuddles. Last time as soon she was better she did get a lunch out at the local pub to help us all back on the road to recovery!

Mine stay in their pyjamas, if able to eat they will have lunch/dinner in front of the telly-this is usually a big no no for us. Mine tend to become a wee bit clingy too and want to sleep in our bed which we do let them.

I would say,
that my kids get away
with so much more stuff when they're ill!
I let them watch more t.v.
and eat more snacks you see,
Because all they can do is be poorly & still!
I hate being strict,
when they're feeling sick.
So I let them all stay up late.
We eat ice-cream for tea,
to cool them down (easy!)
But only until they feel great!
Its not very often,
that my kids feel so yuck,
So they do enjoy being spoiled when sick.
I like making them feel good,
the way most kiddies should,
And then they tend to get better real quick!
We just had to cancel
our Disneyland holiday
because all of us had the flu,
We spoiled our kids lots,
because they all felt like rot,
I just thought it the right thing to do!

When my two girls are poorly they are allowed to do what they want (within reason) to distract them from the fact that they're ill. When my eldest had chicken pox we made some cakes, this definitely stopped her itching!

I try to get them to have a nice long bath and then snuggle in bed or on the sofa for stories or to watch a film. They aren't allowed sweets etc but if they fancy something to eat out of the ordinary I'll make it if I can as that's what I do for myself when I'm not feeling well.

Ritakd · 02/03/2015 13:43

They're usually waited on hand & foot - it's horrible when you're poorly, then mega snuggles & DVD's on the sofa when they're on the mend

I have a poorly boy at home with me this week with tonsillitis and he is taking regular nurofen! Yes he is allowed to be in our bed or the sofa, with a duvet/blanket and TV, films, or the iPad or playing games/reading- whatever makes him feel better! Also really happy to give any food he will eat - yoghurt, crackers, Ice lollies, banana sandwiches are also a favourite in our house when ill,..

Albiebee · 02/03/2015 15:32

No sugary treats here (why would you want that when poorly?) But I do what I would wish someone to do for me when I'm ill. Nice clean pjs, cuddles, easy to digest comfort food and tv while cuddled on the sofa in a blankie, sounds like bliss.

maciv234 · 02/03/2015 16:24

watch a film , run around mad after them

Doubtfuldaphne · 02/03/2015 16:32

I always get overly anxious when my children are ill. I think some good advice is to stay away from google! I constantly watch them, including all through the night. I make sure the temperature is just right so they don't get too hot or cold. I make sure they drink regularly. Normal life goes out of the window and you can forget housework! It stays pretty tidy when they're ill though as they're in bed.
My cabinet is always stocked with the essentials and the kitchen always has honey and lemon in the cupboard! We also have a bowl and disinfectant stored away for the dreaded bugs. I really dread having to reach for that bowl.
If it's just a bad cold or similar, we watch films and keep the blinds closed.
I long to go outdoors after a couple of days when it gets like that!

Lucozade

mata777 · 02/03/2015 16:48

That's the only time when my lively toddler stops jumping on the sofas and lies on them instead, watching TV and playing on my tablet all day. He wont be given too many sweets but can drink as much juice as he likes.

geow480 · 02/03/2015 17:15

definately more lenient

KAKADU2001 · 02/03/2015 17:18

To be honest we didn't spoil them but just gave them lots of hugs and kisses.

sofieellis · 02/03/2015 17:28

Mummy's cuddles are definitely the best cure for illness in our house! Pyjamas on, cuddled up together, under duvets, on the sofa, watching all our favourite movies and TV programmes.

I always encourage penty of fluids, usually cordial, and find that ice-cream usually cures sore throats :)

alabaster002 · 02/03/2015 17:33

Spend time together - when they want their favourite food, they are definitely on the mend!

loobypas · 02/03/2015 17:33

A bed made up on the sofa, control of the remote and heinz tomato soup plus lots of snuggles.

HungryDam · 02/03/2015 17:34

Can't watch as many videos on iPad. And can eat popcorn and any other food they wish Shock

Lauren1983 · 02/03/2015 17:41

Peppa Pig marathon and a few chocolate cookies!

alex621 · 02/03/2015 18:27

I let them stay up an hour later to treat them

MamaRiches · 02/03/2015 18:31

Of course! doesnt every parent? When my son is unwell I let him watch whatever he wants, eats if up to it, plenty of ice lollies for fluid. His duvet comes down and extra pillows for plenty of cartoons and movies oh and bedtime also goes out the window as well! lol

CharliesMouse · 02/03/2015 18:35

I bend the rules on eating at the table when my children are poorly. If they want to eat dry cereal out of a bowl whilst sprawled on the sofa in their pyjamas watching TV that's fine by me. Generally I let them eat whatever they are craving when they are ill and make sure they are drinking and keeping well hydrated.

I'm happy to let them play on their games consoles or watch TV because I think it distracts them from their symptoms, although I always tell my children that sleep is the best medicine and resting will make them get better more quickly.

After about the third day waiting on them hand and foot my patience is usually beginning to wear a bit thin so it's a good job that most minor childhood ailments don't last very long!

maclinks · 02/03/2015 18:48

Lots of little snacks to tempt them to eat, and download a movie they would love to watch.

Tarnie13 · 02/03/2015 18:56

Let my child use their tablet on non-tablet days, sweets sometimes but if really ill up to bed they go.
