The team at Specsavers would love to all about your habits (good or bad) with your contact lenses.

We all know hygiene and eyes is very important – so do you tend to toe the line and follow instructions to the letter? Or are you a bit {ahem} lax in that department? How about when you were younger – or had different lenses? How do you dispose of disposable lenses? Does your DP wear them and leave them lying around when they should be in the bin?

Specsavers say "Here at Specsavers we like to make is easy for contact lens wearers - wearing contact lenses gives you freedom and convenience. And at Specsavers, when you buy contact lenses you get more than just the lenses. Our all-inclusive package not only gives you some fantastic benefits but is also an easy way to pay for your lenses. We'll give you a pair of glasses from our £45 range or designer frames from just £35, full aftercare, future sight tests as recommended by your optician and we'll deliver your lenses and solutions, at no extra cost."

Share your habits – good and bad - and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 voucher from here

Please note Specsavers may use your comments - anon of course - on their pages on MN, on their social media or possibly elsewhere - please only post if you're happy with this.

Thanks and good luck

I use daily disposables. I'm v hot on hygiene and always wash hands before putting in and taking out. I love disposables you can have extras in the car or your bag incase one breaks or you end up staying over somewhere. Previously I used monthly disposables but even though I was careful about washing my hands and cleaning the lenses I did have the odd eye infection. This has been practically eliminated with dailies. The only problem I have now is them occasionally splitting when removing which is a real pain. I'd like to try extended wear but the optician said that these are more likely to be associated with infections.

tiredbuthappyworkingmum · 20/02/2015 01:06

Daily disposables now, which are so easy. Accidentally slept in them twice..

Originally I used monthly disposables but found the cleaning annoying, especially when going on holiday and having to take lots of stuff with me.

Hygiene ok, only touch the outside of the lens when taking out and always wash hands before putting in.

Late 40's now, so have to wearing reading glasses when I have my lens in, but can read fine without lens..

createbeauty · 20/02/2015 06:27

I wear glasses but would prefer to switch to contact lenses because I hate my glasses.

glenka · 20/02/2015 06:46

I tried contact lenses but found it was to much hassle so I went back to glasses.

janeyf1 · 20/02/2015 06:49

I wear daily contact lenses for days out at weekends but just use glasses at work because I work with computers. I am fairly good with hygiene but always find the process fiddly

Chell53 · 20/02/2015 06:52

I'm scared of contact lenses, they creep me out.

ThemisA · 20/02/2015 06:54

I just can't bring myself to have contact lenses - I am frightened to put them in and afraid of introducing an infection - wimp eh!

maryandbuzz1 · 20/02/2015 07:06

Daily disposables for me and I am fanatical about hygiene when I put them in and take them out. Eyes are so important.

tabbaz123 · 20/02/2015 07:10

I used to be very careful and in fact I know someone who actually got a serious infection from the STERILE solution that the daily disposables are stored in - a rare thing indeed but there is a particular strain of bacteria that can develop in these!

That all said with the use of these new solutions it says no rubbing necessary so I think maybe I am not as 'Good' as I used to be in that department!

barbsbarbs · 20/02/2015 07:17

im pretty good, leave them in solution everynight and very hygiene about them, you can never be too careful with eyes.

mammymalibu · 20/02/2015 07:45

I've been wearing different types of lenses for 25yrs now and when I was younger I was terrible re hygiene and I ended up with an ulcerated eyeball as a result, big wake up for me & I do all the hand washing, fluid changing etc as it was so scarey. I've now got 2 weekly lenses and am more grown up about the hygiene aspect. 2 weeklies suit me because I take them in and out a couple of times during the day as I do sporty stuff & don't shower with them in. I also don't like to wear them when I'm reading or using the computer. I prefer dailies but it would be too expensive to use them.

renas · 20/02/2015 07:48

I wear daily disposables they are so convenient and easy just pop in and pop out. done!

Dorual · 20/02/2015 08:12

I wear monthly disposables, and am fairly hygienic with it.. as in I wash my hands before I put them in as I keep them in the bathroom, and it just becomes routine. However, I am guilty of wearing them for longer than a month and occasionally I can't remember how long I've used a pair for. This is usually due to cost. I always store them correctly in the cases, and use the right solutions to try to protect their shelf-life.

castleton · 20/02/2015 08:13

Always very careful

muppet150 · 20/02/2015 08:19

I dont wear contacts but my partner does. He has permanent ones which he is makes sure goes in solution every time to keep them clean and hygienic

krustensnotter · 20/02/2015 08:23

I experimented with daily disposable lenses when i was much younger and used to be really lax about taking them out (especially after a night out!) and would wake up with really dry and sore eyes. I never had any kind of infection but that's probably more from luck than good judgement! As I've got older I switch between dailies and glasses but I'm much more disciplined about taking them out and practicing good hygiene when I put them in.

walk1992 · 20/02/2015 08:34

I tried contacts but glasses are just so much easier

jodiecrossley1 · 20/02/2015 08:43

I used to wear contacts but switched to glasses after having a bad experience losing a contact in my eye. When I did wear them however I was pretty hygienic although I still felt a little disgusted by the fact they were going in my eye and I didn't feel I could get them clean enough

clairenutman · 20/02/2015 08:45

I don't wear contact lenses, but normal glasses, I prefer them. as for hygiene im mega fussy with that.

Chopstheduck · 20/02/2015 09:07

I wear contacts. Leave them in far too long - but they are so expensive!

shawbarbara · 20/02/2015 09:09

I use daily disposables.
I love them, they are faff-free and I know they are clean.

umpers · 20/02/2015 09:13

I always use a lint free cloth to dry lens after cleaning. Its fluff free.

hiddenmichelle · 20/02/2015 09:14

I wear contact lenses - monthlys - i am terrrible, but not had any infections either. Always embarrassed at the Opticians when they say "Do you rub them each night? err.....no - never (usually turns into "Well...sometimes...")

juju3 · 20/02/2015 09:15

Ultra hygenic

Pumpkinette · 20/02/2015 09:20

I'm fairly new to contact lenses. After years of glasses (low prescription so I can get by not wearing them so long as I don't need to see things in the distance) I finally gave them a go last year.

I use daily disposables. I always thouroughly wash my hands with antibacterial soap before I put them in and dry them with kitchen roll to avoid towel fluff. I tend to wear them all day and have been known to keep then in longer than the 8 hours recommended. I sometimes keep then in even after they start to feel uncomfortable if I'm watching tv or out and about.
I have recently started nightshifts and find I can't wear them for the full 12 hours so just tend to stick to my glasses now.

I'm not as strict with removal hygiene as I am putting them in as they just go in the bin afterwards. I couldn't imagine having to faff with cases and cleaning solution.
