The team at Specsavers would love to all about your habits (good or bad) with your contact lenses.

We all know hygiene and eyes is very important – so do you tend to toe the line and follow instructions to the letter? Or are you a bit {ahem} lax in that department? How about when you were younger – or had different lenses? How do you dispose of disposable lenses? Does your DP wear them and leave them lying around when they should be in the bin?

Specsavers say "Here at Specsavers we like to make is easy for contact lens wearers - wearing contact lenses gives you freedom and convenience. And at Specsavers, when you buy contact lenses you get more than just the lenses. Our all-inclusive package not only gives you some fantastic benefits but is also an easy way to pay for your lenses. We'll give you a pair of glasses from our £45 range or designer frames from just £35, full aftercare, future sight tests as recommended by your optician and we'll deliver your lenses and solutions, at no extra cost."

Share your habits – good and bad - and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 voucher from here

Please note Specsavers may use your comments - anon of course - on their pages on MN, on their social media or possibly elsewhere - please only post if you're happy with this.

Thanks and good luck

If I wore contact lenses, I would certainly stick to the rules. However, I am happy occasionally wearing glases.

puczinix · 20/02/2015 09:47

I wear daily disposables and think I'm quite good with the hygiene, making sure I wash my hands before putting lenses in or taking them out.

happysouls · 20/02/2015 10:07

My boyfriend wears glasses or contact lenses depending on the plan for the day and we both adapt our hygiene because of it. The bathroom is kept very clean and I have to remember to clear up after myself and leave everything spotless, partly so that he doesn't clobber himself on anything while he can't see anything and partly so that the taps and basin are clean for handwashing and dealing with lenses.

I used to wear contact lenses until I got cataracts & now I only need glasses for reading as they changed the vision in my eyes so I can see distances

rachaellouise2 · 20/02/2015 10:26

I use monthly disposables. I (usually) wash my hands before handling them. I monitor the days I wear them so after 31 days I throw them away. I dispose of them down the toilet.

I wore contacts for a couple of months before getting married a long time ago. I wanted to get used to them before the big day as I didn't want to wear glasses. The night before I made the biggest mistake of falling asleep with them in. I literally had to peel them off my eyes and couldn't put new ones in as my eyes were so sore. I spent the whole day hardly able to see with big red puffy eyes - not the look I was hoping for on my big day! I never wore contacts again.

I contemplated getting more a couple of years ago but my little boy was too young then, I worried he would somehow get hold of them, now that he's a little older I think I'll be looking at trying them again.

When I did use contacts I always took really good care of them as eyes are so important and already having bad eyesight I'd hate the make them worse.

maureen3733 · 20/02/2015 10:57

i must admit i am slightly blaise about keeping the monthly lenses longer or until they feel uncomfortable but as for hygiene I am quite good.

tamalyn1 · 20/02/2015 11:53

no i dont currently wear them but i would be very hygnenic if i did, i have very sensitive eyes and my sight is most important to me

Gedge · 20/02/2015 12:41

I wear daily disposables and always wash my hands before putting them in or taking them out.

keshimonster · 20/02/2015 12:53

I wear disposable lenses very occasionally, usually just for holiday. I do wash my hands before putting them in but usually am so tired by the time I take them out I just try and grab them out and chuck them on the dressing table and put them in the bin the next morning.

aless02 · 20/02/2015 13:08

I DONT WEAR CONTACTS BUT MY HUSBAND DOES - HE'S A REAL STICKLER FOR HYGIENE BECAUSE HE WORKS IN AN OPTICIAN'S!!

JoJoY · 20/02/2015 13:46

I don't wear them but hubby does and he drives me mad leaving the empty cases everywhere!

glennamy · 20/02/2015 14:04

I am good with hygiene but I have special lenses due to developing keratoconus, I suffer with sore eyes :/

Maclairey · 20/02/2015 14:19

I don't wear them yet although I hope to be wearing them soon.

My husband does though and he is definitely lax at changing them as frequently as he should. All done in the name of money saving!

KittyKat88 · 20/02/2015 14:46

I wear my glasses 75% of the time. If I want the discretion of lenses I just use disposables. Clean hands and careful positioning to insert, and make sure I take them out once I no longer need them (so I don't forget if I get tooo tired!)

ThatBloodyWoman · 20/02/2015 14:51

I moved from gas permeable to soft -then as I was way too idle to do any sort of cleaning routine,I moved onto daily disposables.
Then finding that at times I feel asleep without removing them I moved to continous wear.
My best tip for solving all the fiddling around is laser surgery.....

Scungybear · 20/02/2015 14:57

I used to wear gas permeable lenses, and I'm afraid I did suck them clean in my mouth if I dropped one! I haven't worn lenses for years now though, because my eyes would get very uncomfortable, even when I moved on to soft lenses - just glasses for me now.

mickaul232 · 20/02/2015 15:25

I wear daily disposable lenses but sometimes fall asleep in them at night and its awful in the mornings as they seem to glue themselves to my eyes and i cannot wear any lenses for a few hours until my eyes are up to it

mumtowoo1 · 20/02/2015 15:34

I wear daily disposable, I wouldn't use contact's that have to be cleaned etc as I would worry I had not done it correctly and end up with an eye infection.

MrsMoggy · 20/02/2015 16:00

Husband and I both wear contact lenses. I use monthly ones and wear all day everyday, hate wearing my glasses now. Husband uses toric daily lenses for astigmatism and only uses them for playing sports. These are considerably more expensive than standard lenses in my opinion.

I wash my hands before inserting and cleaning and try to change them as close to monthly as possible. I can feel when its getting towards the end of the month as the lenses get scratchy and less clear in my experience. I'vr worn them for seven years now and getting them was one of the best things I've done for my confidence and convenience.

Worst thing about wearing them has to be the odd occasion when they get stuck in your eye. Hurts and causes a panic! My husband had one rip in half in his eye once, and a friend ended up having an infection scraped off their eyeball in surgery due to a problem involving contact lens use. This doesn't put me off, as I think most of the time you can tell when there is a problem with your lenses.

BlackNoSugar · 20/02/2015 16:23

I used to wear monthly disposables, I would only change them when they got scratchy, so they would last around 6 weeks-2 months per pair. I did wash my hands before inserting them, but just a quick swish with water and shake dry. And if I had to take one out during the day (got something under it or suchlike) I have been known to lick my fingers, pop the lens out, lick the lens and pop it back in. (yes I know it's disgusting but it's quick and easy! Grin)

beckyinman · 20/02/2015 16:25

I'm absolutely neurotic about hygiene when it comes to my eyes - I'd probably sterilise my eyeball if I could!

leannemoore · 20/02/2015 17:15

Very clean all the way for me because my eyes are what I see my children throw

rachelmi · 20/02/2015 17:35

I find daily ones as most convenient and hygienic and worth the cost.

Scaredandanxious · 20/02/2015 18:40

I have daily toric lenses, I don't wear them every day probably 4/7

I'm 42 now and started with GP lenses at 13 and I've always been obsessive about cleaning, I always used to take a case and cleaner with me when I had the long term lenses. The thought of rinsing them in my mouth and putting them back in makes me feel ill, adding protein and bacteria to your eyeball, yuck!
I've never had conjunctivitis and I aim to keep it that way. When I wear my dailys I always take a spare pair and my glasses - if they get tired, dry or I get something in my eye I change to glasses for a bit then put a new pair in
