TalkTalk has asked us to find out how Mumsnetters enjoy their favourite TV.

Here’s what TalkTalk says, "Nothing beats sinking into the sofa, putting your feet up and switching off in front of your favourite TV show after a long day. But have you ever wondered what your TV favourites say about you?

We have created a fun quiz to help you find out. With YouView from TalkTalk now being Britain's fastest growing TV service, it's quickly becoming the home of family entertainment. We questioned families to uncover what the nation enjoys most about TV, and see how catch up, the ability to pause, rewind and record live TV, and instantly watch on demand movies, sport and kids programs have improved our viewing.

We found eight different types of TV viewers or 'TV Tribes' ranging from 'Family Guys' who enjoy nothing more than bringing the family together to watch their favourite programmes to 'Secret Viewers' who tell everyone they watch the likes of Newsnight but secretly revel in trash TV."

So, first off, take TalkTalk’s TV tribes quiz here and let us know which tribe you belong to. Do you think it’s accurate? How do you watch TV with your family? We'd love to hear about it so please post your comments below.

Everyone who shares their TV viewing habits on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I'm an elitist apparently. Not sure, but we do watch a lot of documentaries, and I hate reality shows

im a me-timer. probably should be devoting that time to skin care, hair removal and literature!

I'm parenting peripheral?! That's pretty inaccurate, but I can see why my answers would give that result. We only have the tv on during the day for children's programmes, and barely at all in the evening. Lots of the questions didn't have an option that was just right for me.

I'm a me-timer, Which I suppose is true, as I do watch series on catch on my own. Don't watch on headphones ever though - who does this if they watch at home?

NurseyWursey · 12/03/2014 10:00

I'm a secret viewer, which I don't think is true as I shout from the rooftops what I watch, but I do watch most of it alone because it's 'my thing' whilst my partner sods off to his 'man room'.

I love watching things like Dexter, Greys Anatomy, Walking Dead... but I'm traumatised when the series is over and need something else to watch. There's nothing catching my eye at the moment so I end up watching B movies on Netflix.

Turns out I am a 'me-timer' I think this is true! Once the baby is in bed I want some time to relax, and when you have a baby going out for a nice dinner isn't as easy as it once was, watching TV is the best and cheapest way to chill!

I am apparently the elitist and don't watch tv often but when I do its to learn something new. I suppose it is accurate I don't see the point in having the tv on for background noise and if someone is watching something im not interested in ill go and do other things instead. I rarely watch tv as its broadcast usually watch Netflix mostly for the drama, currently criminal minds. but the soaps bit was out because I do like to watch emmerdale!

I'm a Me timer, which I think I agree to now. I used to watch TV all the time now I pick a handful of favourite programmes and stick to them. I am gutted when they end though!!

Seems I'm a "Me-timer".

I'm laughing at the idea of downloading box sets. It takes all night to download an episode of something on our net connection.

Apparently I'm a 'Me-timer', which I completely disagree with. Looking through the other descriptions, the 'Compliant' describes me best.
I only watch tv with DH, after the DC are in bed. We have the tv on for 60-90 minutes most evenings. If DH isn't there, I often don't bother with the tv. I don't really care what we watch, but I like most of the same stuff as DH. I often read or browse the Internet at the same time anyway.
Occasionally, if its only me & DD2 at home, I'll watch something DH doesn't like if I'm ironing (rare) while she's having a nap.
We don't really watch tv with the DC much, apart from a bit of cbeebies occasionally.

I am the family guy apparently- not sure. I sky+ the majority of my shows and hardly watch anything except childrens tvs live any more.

I'm a "Me-Timer", which is true actually. I love watching my TV programmes (Dallas, Call the Midwife, The Carrie Diaries, The Walking Dead) when the kids are in bed and DH is out. I usually have a glass of wine and some nibbles too. Grin

I also got 'the Family Guy' - I think that's a fairly accurate assessment for me. The only time I watch TV alone is when I'm ironing! Usually watch our favourite programmes along with the rest of the family and we often like to pick faults and criticise discuss plot lines.

I'm a me timer.
Thinking about it, it is a good description of me. Having 4 children and a DH that loves sport I tend to plan TV time that is quiet, peaceful with no interruptions so I can enjoy me time.

Me-timer here - my 3 year old is the boss and likes her own programmes. I record loads and watch when she's in bed or at nursery. My stuff wouldn't be appropriate for her anyway as I like dark scary stuff!

Ragwort · 12/03/2014 18:07

Elitist here (which probably is a polite way of saying 'snob' Grin).

I probably agree with this, I genuinely don't watch much tv and I can't stand watching tv with anyone else.

Report
MaddAddam · 12/03/2014 18:16

It says I'm a me-timer.

I guess I do like watching tv on my own in a darkened room with a glass of wine. But usually I'm watching surrounded by noisy family members.

CrewElla · 12/03/2014 20:02

Me-timer... God forbid anyone tries to hold a conversation with me during my two hours of shows I like to watch a week! I want my two hours, damn it!

Report
meerschweinchen · 12/03/2014 20:03

Elitist here. Seems a funny way of phrasing it, but I do actually agree with the description. We never have the TV on for the sake of it, or as background noise. My Dad can't bear it when he comes visit! He's the opposite - it's wall- to- wall sport at his house! There are a few programmes I enjoy, so I do watch those, but I increasingly find less and less I want to watch, so I prefer to read or mumsnet instead. The description was wrong in saying I use catch up. We don't have Sky or anything which allows you to record TV - although I do very occasionally use iPlayer.

Report
ThePortlyPinUp · 12/03/2014 20:36

The Family Guy- I'm not sure I agree with that completely, yes we do watch tv as a family but it's not a major event and we certainly don't have set programmes to watch. When we are on our own me and Dp prefer documentaries or American comedies that aren't suitable for dc's.

Report
HootyMcOwlface · 12/03/2014 20:38

I'm a compliant, I guess I like to watch what my DH does. He picks documentaries and I end up learning things which I wouldn't know otherwise which I think is pretty good. Its so rare for me to watch TV these days though, I'm normally doing chores while its on.
If we're not watching documentaries, it'll be American shows on Netflix.

Family guy.

It isn't really accurate at all! I usually just watch a bit of netflix on my own. Never switch on the TV set and don't stay in watching tv together on the sofa. However I do occasionally make a point of watching specific shows with my family (every few weeks, not a nightly occurrence) and I do like to talk through tv shows if I am watching with someone

Pinter · 13/03/2014 02:58

The Family Guy apparently. Don't recognise us from the description though... Never even watched Gogglebox

I came out as the 'Me-timer'. I think that's probably right! I love box sets!
