dd has started transition(yr 10) and I have had to look at a college, now I don't want her to go there, IMO she will be better of if she stays where she is, but that is the expensive private option.....
what i need to find out is what the mix of sn is in the yr 10 comming from the sn feeder school. any ideas??
I want to know how many are in wheelchairs, Have cp, have behavioural problems and so on.

Freedom of Information Act ? If you make it clear you don't want any personal data just a stats breakdown on physical/cognitive abilities in the school ?

What about the Connexions adviser? Presumably they will be involved in all the SN admissions to the college and could give just gen. info such as 'there will be 10 admissions, 5 from X school, 5 from Y school, 3 of those in wheelchairs, 2 with complex medical needs..'
The 'mix' of SN is important. I'd like it if ds had some kids operating at around his level for his post-16.
Have decided to have a look at the college in Cheltenham in the autumn. It still leaves me a bit shaky when I think about weekly boarding but his teenage BO is getting worse .

I don't want dd to end up on her own surrounded by walking talking young people.
I am also going to say they will have to put a new accesible toilet in for her, the 2 in the college are accesed via the PLMD classroom.

The college should have section that can give you this info - sometimes called Learning support, Access Support etc depends on teh College.

She should also have a specialist Connexions advisor (not the ordinary sort) who knows about SEN provision in your area.

I don't know why she chose that name, but wetaugust knows a huge amount about the system, legal rights and legal loopholes that the authorities try and use. She's not just an erudite and well-informed woman, she's a good'un too.

do 16+ colleges have ofsted reports? If so you might be able to get some basic info from that about the type of SN the college is using to dealing with, and how well they seem to cope.

Am absolutely hopping mad though at latest insult. I was sent a copy of a letter one doctor had written to another referring my son to his clinic and calling him "THE INDIVIDUAL" - not 'young person' or 'my patient' but INDIVIDUAL. Grrrr! Very cross!

Now can't decide wheter to stick with Dr who has zero social skills and awareness or change to one whose name looks like someone has lent on the keyboard!
