15 year old and OCD

My son has Asperger’s syndrome and is starting to have OCD episodes around contamination anxiety. I am looking to see the GP, however I wondered what the potential options might be. Through previous experience with CAMHS, waiting lists are long and they can’t offer much support and since he’s not yet 18, I wasn’t sure what medication etc was available. Grateful for any help because it can be quite distressing for him.

Medication can be prescribed to under 18s but most GPs won’t initiate treatment and require it to be initiated by a psychiatrist.

Some find CBT helpful for OCD. It doesn’t work for all autistic individuals though even when it is delivered by someone with adapting CBT for autistic individuals.

How are DS’s wider anxiety and stress levels? Looking at that can help.

I know this post is old but wanted to say my son has ASD and OCD and life is hell. My son is under CAHMS and takes Sertraline, we have just started again after a relapse, OCD takes a long while to react to medication and you often need max dosing like 200mg and about 8-12 weeks at that dose to see a difference.
