Just back from statementing meeting (see under education!)

We were talking about OT- the LEA were saying they could provide some leaflets, the school were syaing they felt a professional assessment would be better (!!) I said he's been waiting a year, he;s not going to get OT, I know children who need it more than him who have been waiting for 3 years. And the Ed Psych turned round and said "well why don'tyou pay for a private assessment?"
That would be with the spare three hundred quid I have lying around would it?

My reply was quite abrupt.

Oh Gawd Jimjams. I wonder if some people are in the right job sometimes. Maybe you should ask the ed psych if he/she would pay for you. It amazes me that it is now considered normal to expect parents to pay privately for services they should be receiving free of charge. As though the inference is that you become more important if you have money to flash. I was talking to an OT today, who treats oap's and she said that paed ot is so specialised , which is why there aren't so many around and a huge list. Actually she seemed a bit clueless, so I didn't think it was worth asking her about blowing for your ds! Still it's scandalous anyone should have to wait so long for treatment.

Having heard about your day I appreciate you replying to my thread even more now. Your turn for wine and a film!

lou- just had a total rant about the paying for OT business under education. I am getting so sick of being told we should pay for basic services. Funnily enough thought that was why we were taxed. Gits!

Yeah I heard the same about paed OT. I think tney're very hard to find even privately (and therefore cost a fortune).

I agree Jimjams. How can they say there are none available, but oh look, if you pay we will appear as if by magic? Makes my blood boil the inadequacies of services available county by county.

jimjams I am so sorry to hear you are having even MORE troubles. Im sure these education people think parents money grows on trees when they are counting their budgets down to the last penny, trying to cut corners and not giving funding to alot of children who need it.
