Positive news paper report

I hope no one minds my posting this but our local news paper had a terrific write up today about a local girl who was born with Down's Syndrome. She attends a main stream school and has been given a gold award for her excellent work and behaviour. She had already been given bronze and silver awards, but the gold awards are rarely given out.

Her mother had been told that she would not live past the age of five, feed herself walk or go to school.

Such a positive article, about hard working, sucessful and determined girl.

Thanks hmb- good to hear. Excellent. Why do the so called pros still insit on telling parents this crap when they have a disabled child? They don't have a crystal ball anymore than the parents do. grrrrrrr

Good on her anyway- she showed them!

brilliant hmb. You wouldn't be able to get a photocopy of that article. The reason being is our support group do a new parent pack and one of the booklets in it contains positive stories about down's syndrome. If you can I will email you my contact details.

You can have the original if you like (I've just fished it out of the re-cycling bin!) There is a super photo of the girl as well. She looks beautiful as well as being terrific. Do you know how to get Tech to put us in contact?
I'll be happy to forward it to you. I can scan it, but I think snail mail would be best.

hmb what a lovely story I love hearing stories like this.

Did anyone read about Christopher Reid(sp) and the genetic therapy that has more of less cured him. I only caught a glimpse on sky news but he was prone to infections and gt ormond st hosp did some gene therapy. It brought tears to my eyes knowing that some good in the world has been done.
Sorry hmb on hijacking your thread, i thought this was lovely too.
