Is is possible to get an educational statement of 'special needs' for an 8 year old with APD. I'm concerned really how he's going to cope in secondary school, obviously with a statement we'd have more choice as to were best to place him (eg. we have a new school being built not too far away, but not catchment, with a SN dept - but as it stand now he would not be considered.)

I'd apply asap, you won't know otherwise.

Would write personally to the LEA in question requesting a Statutory Assessment (statement). You need to write to the Chief Education Officer at your LEA and give them six weeks to reply. BTW appeal their crass decision if they say no!.

IPSEA are very good at the whole minefield that can be the statementing process, their website is www.ipsea.org.uk.
