Social stories for ASD child

I am currently working as a TA and one of our 6y boys has been identified as having ADHD and highly likrly to be on the ASD speftrum - although further tests are required to know where he sits on this exactly.

He is having a great deal of dfficulty within school at present and finding the whol school thing hard. We have tried many approaches and some work for a day or two and then stop working. His behaviours are esculating a lot, esp over the last few months.

One of the things I remember reading about on here are that social stories can be of some benefit to some children.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what kind of thing I could be doing, and what the social stories might look like - in terms of layout, images, etc.

Look for anything written by Carol Gray. Your SALT team may provide training on social stories - worth checking.

Hulababy- Can I suggets you recieve some training proir to writing the story as they need to be precise. Carol Gray is an excellent start.

How long are you perservering with strategies? Sometimes their can be a dip in the behaviour 2 or 3 days in as the child is starting to see that the strategie is working and kicks against it. Have you tried First then timetable? I have a picture of the task they have to do next to a picture of something they would like to do. Eg maths then game. They are nice and visual and are a constant reminder of a reward for the child

Is there an Autism Outreach Support Worker in your area? She might be able to first write the stories for you and then teach you how to do them. Also, the National Autistic Society or local groups might run day courses on social stories. Worth a try.
