please help me
ds9 got adhd, traits of autism and occasional defiance disorder,
im at my wits end because im a single parent and have no back up in the house, i have no family exept for my dad and ds has never seen his dad so thats no help[his choice not ours], he must take his medication as his temper is at boiling point, he cant take the word no at all and its now come to him ruling the house and hitting me occasionaly, i dont go out as he is a shopaholic at his age.
anyway, how on earth do i get him to take his strattera in the mornings as he is refusing point blanc and i cant persuade him at all to take it, so here i am on a saturday completly scared at what the day holds for me, just what are you ment to do when a child refuses?

No experience of Strattera but did not want to leave you unanswered. Does he normally take it - I mean is he just refusing or does he struggle with swallowing it?

Will he respond to taking it for a reward or with a sweet or something, or has he got into too much of a state to discuss it rationally?

Sorry can't be more helpful but didn't want to leave you feeling on your own - hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

Is it the taste he doesn't like or is it being compelled?
Has it always been a battle? If not why do you think he now refuses

How good is his understanding of why he needs to take the medicine?

Sorry for all the questions btw just trying to work out if there is anyway you can get him to take this of his own accord becasue he wants to

Do you mean that they can get him to take it at school? Could someone there help talk to him and explain about it, or another professional that he will listen to?

Psychiatrist spoke to our DS about his melatonin when we explained that he would take that information far better from someone else. If we had asked/told him to take it we would have got a 'no' as a matter of course. It seemed to do the trick (well so far!).

The taste is supposed to be really nasty, so I'm not surprised you can't hide it! Can he swallow capsules or tablets at all? It might be worth getting him to practice with tictacs

DS1 has just started on Strattera. We're having him take his eyeQ chews first, so his mouth and throat are nicely lubricated, then swallowing down his capsule, whole, with a drink. So far, we've had 3/3 days without refusal or chewing on it, though he was bouncing all over the place, this morning and I had to get quite growly with him (he was trying to get out of going to school, since DS2's off poorly).
