Proposed statement - is time limited to get it right?

I got the proposed statement through last week, Have made an appointment to correct things, but we are on holiday for 2 weeks soon and the lady is not free until after we get back.

It will have been about 4 weeks since the statement first arrived through our letter box, when I go to my first meeting.

How much longer have I got after that to keep correcting stuff?

Also, my son is only 3 1/4 and will soon be starting nursery. We'll have a review in December anyway ... so do you think it matters if the statement is not perfect. I'm hoping that we can make it more ideally suited to his needs in the December review, after he's actually been in an educational environment and/or before he starts at school.

Or am I being too hopeful?

You've done the right thing in contacting the LA and making your appointment as this should be done within 15 days of receiving the proposed Statement.

The LA is supposed to offer you 3 possible appointment dates. It sounds as though you've agreed on date that suits you and the LA - so tha'ts OK.

If, at the meeting the LA agree to amend the proposed Statement they'll send you an Amended Proposed Statement and again you must contact them within 15 days if you don't agree and want them to amend it agaian - and so on and so on.... you're happy with the proposed Statemet - in which case the LA make it Final.

If (after these meetings) the LA finally decides to refuse to amend it to show what you want then you need to appeal to a Tribunal.

Best wishes

The statement is 'open' now, but it won't be in December. There will be nothing you can do to change things, unless the LA decide to 'open' it, which is very unlikely indeed.

A review is fairly pointless for most people.

You need to address the issues now.
