Final statement issues

Have been told that ds final statement has been posted out today , naming the speech unit I want.horay which they did agree to without a fight

But always a but , there is no Ot in it despite him previously having ot in statement and the unit telling Lea that they will need ot support as ds will be going into year 1 unable to do more than draw a wobbly circle and still tends to hold in dagger grip despite trying various grips also is unable to cut food up use knife and fork so is obviously going to be issues within school

Lea are saying there is covering letter that says once we have ot report they will amend the final to reflect this do I trust them or do I file straightaway for tribunal and wait see what ot recommend and if Lea carry it out ( we are seiing paed, physio ot etc in multi meeting tomorrow ) .He did

I'd phone the OT, ask how much they'd recommend and send the statement back asking them to state those hours.

thats the problem we moved and at last review where we lives the ot ds saw(choclate teapot kind) was on maternity leave and did not even turn in reports.

Took to tomorrow for ds to even see OT and thats only because i have kicked up fuss.Am curious to see what nhs one will recommend or if need go private to get a better report

the private salt\ was great and Herts have gone with every one of their recommendations

I'm in a similar situation though its wrt to SALT rather than OT. LEA are happy to add as long as i get confirmation from SALT that they will do termly visits but SALT won't commit to it. I'm waiting for a local charity to call me back, have also spoken to a solicitor who specialises in educational matters and she thought there was a way round it - snag being i would need to pay out £300 plus VAT on their statement checking service!

I'd see how you get on at meeting tomorrow, I think you have 8 weeks to lodge appeal though my understanding is an appeal lodged now wouldn't be heard til December unless there was a cancellation come up so time enough to withdraw if you get it sorted.

Would speak to IPSEA and or SOS;SEN regarding this matter (if you happen to read this smellybill their advice also is free). You have a fight on your hands here to get OT put into the Statement.

Yeah I already have ipsea on board from proposed level and kinda knew Ot proof was in short supply .what I'm hoping is that since Lea are putting it in writing that they will add Ot after that they've shot self in foot mind it's at what level support and equipment they will commit to

smellybill have you looked at private salt not sure where you are but Lea in east herts have took notice of private salt report infact lifted every word in her recommendations into statement

It does sound hopeful for you if they added the SALT without question, that if you get a report from the OT they will add it....fingers crossed that happens.

I'm in Essex, tbh the whole statement is a bit naff, surprised it isn't knitted as it so woolly. I will keep trying IPSEA but don't have much luck getting through, Did get through to ACE who told me to..ring IPSEA. I might ring a private SALT tomorrow, but somehow doubt my LA will take any notice. They proudly told me they write "flexible statements" and "cannot dicatate to the school how to deploy the support"

roundthebend4 · 01/06/2010 19:33

ah I used live Ne essex they did ds first statement so far Herts way better

I am in Essex too.

In my experience of using them IPSEA can be best contacted either first thing in the morning or in the evenings.

ThickyStarlightTrollGirl · 01/06/2010 20:38

I'd put in the appeal straight away. You can withdraw it once you get the OT!
