Most of you will know that we are just waiting for dx report (this month) as well as OT report and Ed Psych report etc.

I have hung on for these before putting in SA but I'm thinking about sticking the SA request in now and just keeping it as basic as possible at the moment. I'd assume we'd have to take it to a Tribunal in any event.

What do your reckon?? Is this something that is better done before or after Ed Psych visit? Will it alert Ed Psych to do her job properly or make her less likely to investigate?

Are you prepared to pay for a private dx if they faff you about? A SA request could trigger them to not diagnose (unlikely but it happens).

Personally I like the express train to getting the provision so I would go ahead, but bear in mind it might cost. I don't think the process will run away with you, you prolly know quite a bit about it now, and it is slooooooooow anyhow.

And EP will do a more thorough woolly assessment instead of a less thorough woolly assessment!

I know you didn't ask for my advice but...

I would request now & say that reports will follow.

I think you're 'et al' lou

debs40 · 31/05/2010 19:35

Of course Lou, all advice welcome! I wasn't sure whether it would trigger EP to go looking for evidence 'he's fine and school rock' rather than producing something more ambiguous!

My advice would be to wait until you've had the dx report.

It's easier to justify asking for an SA when you have a dx - I know it shouldn't be so but the LA will take this more seriously than no label.

If you applied now by the time the LA made their deciison as to whether to assess it would probably not complete before the hols.

I would actually wait until you've had Ruth's report. If the LA Pysch is crap you would then be able to submit a proper EP report when requesting an SA and would know where his strebgths / weaknesses lay therefore what actual support a Statement would need to deliver.

I think requesting an SA now would actually make the LA EP less open in their discussions with you as they know an SA is in progress. I would milk any contact with LA EP for what I could now - knowing that I will submit an SA request once I have dx.

But there are many ways of playing it.

Mmmmm, interesting points you make Jedi master! I see where you are coming from and I have a feeling I might get more out of EP in terms of recommendations etc if I hold back on mention of SA.

LOL, well there you go! We're all agreed!

Star, I am concerned that we are without diagnosis at the moment too and I think your point about this potentially interfering with that is an important one. I think it may well in any event although they tell me it's all about the ADOS/ADI.

I think it would be time to press ahead otherwise
