Ed Psych appointment

DS has got the Ed Psych coming in on Friday. The SENCO said she will speak to me for half an hour and then observe DS. I thought she was coming in to do some assessments. I don't see observation will add much as we have had Autism Outreach in already.

Do you know if you specifically have to ask for them to assess a child rather than observe or do Ed Psychs do both?

I have tried to contact her myself and I'm hoping she'll get back to me.

when my child has had these its usally normall to do an observation first and from that the ed psych will do any assments she feels necessary if you want your Ds tested for a reason then you probably need to request the ed psych to do this and dicuss your concerns .good luck

Both LEA Ed Pyschs did observations and one did a half-baked attempt at using assessment tests.

For the comprehensive formal assessment using acknowledged tests we had to go privately.

So unless you specifically ask the Ed Pysch to carry out specific assessment tests I think they will just observe, so you'd need to make a specific request for testing.

i have to say i went private in the end as well it was alot quicker and the assment was more comprehensive as well .

Thanks. SENCO said she is doing assessments primarily so I will ask her tomorrow what this will be. Unfortunately we have got the fluffy 'everything is rosy' teacher on tomorrow but I will stick to trying to be specific.

Wet I have booked in to see your Ed Psych in Sept and I've told SENCO this too!

If she does assessments, make a note of which ones she uses. If you're using a private EP as well, they will have to use a different test. Hopefully you'd have the LA EP report back by the the time you see your EP, but we know how slow these things can take sometimes.

Aah, that's why SENCO wanted to get in first with the LA Ed Psych. I remember being told that and mentioning it to him because we were about to instruct an ed psych. Suddenly, he got the LA ed psych involved.

agree with sugar candy but you must be proactive and push the school to act regualarly otherwise they will just sit back on their laurels and use the lets just wait and see what happens speach!

Thanks, I'm just thinking that this is an attempt by school to get a step ahead by getting the Ed Psych in first to demonstrate how wonderfully DS is doing. It is amazing how much extra help he gets when external agencies come in!

Thinking of ducking it for the rest of term now and just starting the holiday early. I don't want this messing up the dx process (EP feeds into the panel in June) and playing in to school's hands with a half-cocked report.

Let's face it she isn't going to say he needs a statement!
