Hello,
Have been a member of MN for a few years now, although a very infrequent lurker for the last couple. Have never posted on this topic before but having had our DS diagnosed with ASD a few months ago I felt like I wanted to share my good news with someone who might understand what it means to us.

We have received a letter to say they are going ahead with the statementing assessment for our DS - woo hoo!!!

Only 20 more weeks to go in the process.

Good for you!

How old is DS?

chocoholic · 12/05/2010 12:16

He is 4 and starts school in september so we are quite stressed about the whole thing.

We had heard so many stories of them refusing to go ahead with assessing, when cases were really strong, that we were convinced it would be a no and we would have to appeal.

Just seems to be a forward step finally on our journey.

That is such a good idea. I've been advised to reject anything they offer to ask for more but hadn't actually thought of looking to see how the wording etc goes.

It is all such a complex and long winded world isn't it!

That is great news, good luck with the rest of the process!

Gosh, yes, thank you, I'd much rather know. That is so sneaky.
Anything else that I really need to be on my guard about?

Hi chicoholic, i have 2 dd's with ASD, my youngest is the same age as your DS and starts school in September, we are still waiting for her statement (started the process 5 months ago) and we are trying to get her a place in a sn school (we find out on the 24th may).

Well done for getting a dx and welcome to the SN boards .

Little words like he should have signing etc available should gives them a choice I made them change from should to must

chocoholic · 13/05/2010 08:50

I guess I will be posting it on here to see if anyone can spot anything for me to change (obviously, I'm hoping they will offer me something!!!)

Thanks for the replys everyone, I know there are lots of parents out there in a similar position but you can't help but feel quite alone in it sometimes.

Not everyone understands why I get excited about odd things, like the fact I got DS to eat apple with the skin on yesterday!!
