speech dyspraxia and schools

My daughter has been seeing a speech therapist since she was 2. unfortunately she has only now been diagnosed as having severe speech dyspraxia. She is to start school in september and we are now thinking of getting her statemented. However - the confusion stems from should we go for a state school or private? A specialist school or a mainstream? We know she is an intelligent and friendly child but is currently in a very small friendly nursery environment and are very confused about what we should do. Going to 'big' school should not mean for her to loose confidence in herself and her abilities...

Agree - start the statementing process now & ask about S & L units. You may not like the school the unit is attached to but it's honestly irrelevant if the therapy is going to help your child to speak. We agonised over this last year as the school with the S & L unit is quite a bit away and we live just around the corner from a really good primary school where DD1 had already been offered a place.
Likewise, DD1 had a great time at nursery & made friends - she's also bright & has no problems understanding. The lack of speech is a lot less important at age 3-4 than it is at age 4-5 and only intensive therapy will help, regardless of how good a school may be

yep the one ds will be going to is at leats 40 mins more with traffic and like bubble i was torn but we had already tried ms with support and it failed So as much as I dislike the idear of putting a barley 5yo ds in a taxi every day feel that only here will he get the right help

Oh and if you can make sure look at few units nearest not always most suitable and they are differnt to how much time is unit based
