Grants for trikes

Hi all,

we've just had an assesment for a special needs trike for my DS. The play specialist gave us full specifications for the make and model of trike he needs, and also gave us a list of charities we could apply for funding through. Some of the charities listed don't seem to deal with play equipment and some are a bit vague as to what they'll give grants for.

Has anyone else applied for funding for something like this, and which charities did you find most helpfull? There's an endless list and I don't know where to start. We're very excited about getting the bike as it's the first one he's ever been able to ride! I'll probably give them all a ring on Monday, but I thought I'd ask your advice first.

Many thanks,

Jajoom. xx

We are applying through Cerebra for a trike for dd1, they came to the house to talk to me last week and said they should be able to get dd1 a trike through 'tom cat', they even phoned up Tom cat to arrange for them to come over and see dd1 and helped me fill out the forms, all i need to do now is get two referances (one from pead and one from the school), the form was really easy to fill in (just one page).

Hi there, we found a lot of the bigger charities really hard to deal with but managed to get funding for dd's SN trike from local charities. We contacted our local Lion's Club and Round Table. They were really lovely and very keen to help a local child. Good luck with it all.

We spoke to TomCat people at an exhibition and they said they can usually get funding to provide their trikes. This was a while ago but they made an appt to come and assess DS and are actually coming tomorrow - I'll see what they say tomorrow because if he is able to use one I certainly can't pay for it myself.

Suggest you give them a call and ask for advice.
